Maybe they'll reduce the sizes of their fleets, let the weaker ones die, increase the price/ticket, get rid of all the hidden fees and ridiculous surcharges, and removed a rank and a couple of rows of seats giving us more legroom and elbowroom.

Nahhhh, it'll never happen.

Hurtling through the air at 500mph, 7 miles above Earth, traversing the country or even an ocean in less than a day, all for cheaper and much faster you can do it with essentially any other mode of transportation. Oh and prices have been, historically, decreasing substantially over the last 25 years.

The luggage fees, cramped seats, etc are all because people will spend 5 hours on the internet to save $3 on a ticket even though once they get to the airport they'll spend $7 on a cup of coffee.

What more do you people want!??

As a frequent traveler: Thank You.

Not happy to hear that you guys are under that kind of pressure right now, but - seeing how people act every single day towards flight attendants, gate agents and the other staff... just makes me wonder what keeps you all going to work everyday. I fly nearly every day and I just can't understand why people act the way they do when it comes to air travel...

mad8vskillz: there's got to be a FAR 121.471 violation in there somewhere...

Not sure if you're familiar with them or not, so I'll go with the basic level.

Theres this kind of trip that airlines schedule airline pilots on called a "continuous duty overnight". This is when the plane is not on the ground long enough to give minimum legal rest overnight to the crew. For example, it lands at midnight and takes off at 6am. Instead they put you on duty all night long, from say 9pm until 9am the next morning and they make your FAR required rest period to be during the middle of the day.

This allows them to give you legal rest but you're still only in the hotel from 12:30am til 5am each night. One could say "just sleep all day long," but that is easier said than done, especially when before and after a set of these trips, you're flying normal "fly all day, sleep all night" trips. I'm not as young as I used to be and I'm still a human, flipping your sleep schedule by 12 hours from one day to the next just isn't possible.

So, it is completely legal and blessed by the FAA. But it is a dirty dirty trick used to keep the airplanes moving without having to use two sets of pilots (costs too much money).

"If its legal, its safe"

Coffee was slightly over $2 in Atlanta, I just got back from there. And if you want to know what we people want, here's a list:

1) Don't allow flight attendants to arbitrarily re-assign assigned seats. Especially when they don't tell anyone they're doing it. It never ends well on a full flight.

2) Quit pretending that an "on time" departure = pulling away from the gate at the scheduled time. By this measure, all of my flights have a 100% on time departure. Until you factor in the 1+ hours spent on the runway behind 13 other planes waiting to leave.

3) Charging for checked luggage is retarded unless you're going to enforce carry-on luggage size restrictions. You're only making people find out, once they're on the plane, if their oversize piece of shiat rolling luggage can fit in the overhead bin. And no, the rest of us don't mind waiting 5 minutes while these folks figure out how to cram their luggage into the bin. And since everyone does this, it leaves no room for those of us with sensible sized backpacks and regular carry on luggage to use.

I know these aren't your concerns as a pilot, but you really shouldn't ask what "you people" want unless you want a list. And my list is only a start.

I flew first class once and I got hooked.

Easily, I'd love to spend 1000+ per first class seat for a coast to coast flight.

Thanks to the internets and.. uh... that prevailing climate where people are losing there jobs and can't afford to keep their homes...

Recession- that's the word.

Let's see. Looming tax debt, unemployment, disenchantment over the prospect of lounging on the tarmac for possibly hours, a crappy bag of peanuts and a soda, cramped seating, security searches, out of the way landings to gt to your final destination and- I'll go there-- service with an attitude. Any one of these buzzkill items should be enough to damage a service oriented business and combined they only see a drop of ~3% in business? I'm freakin' impressed.

Props go out to the pilots of these craft tho-

I usually do an "awesome landing" or a "I really enjoyed the flight, top notch."

I've been in service jobs and I know what you mean by little comments like that going a long way.
