in other words "We need to make this as close to Avatar as possible in a very short amount of time."

please don't make this 3D.

This is what i was talking about - how you can tell that a film is a train wreck without ever seeing it.

They wouldn't do this if they didn't know for a fact that they'd get spanked at the box office if they don't.

Ya, damn that Liam Neeson guy. When will he ever learn to act?
:/

This makes me sad. I really want this movie not to suck.

Relatively Obscure: This makes me sad. I really want this movie not to suck.

Considering they made "Hades" the bad guy, which shiats in the face of everyone who is even remotely familiar with greek myths, it was always going to suck.

Many movies have to do re-shoots; they had to wait for Neeson to finish up his role in A-Team to do these CotT re-shoots.

/move along; nothing to see here

I was willing to forget that when I saw the trailer. Now, I'm starting to worry again.

Liam Neeson is playing Bubo the owl? That would be....interesting.

How could they possibly hope to improve on the original? CGI?

movie bosses: This 3d thing is really taking off, lets do it.
director: Uh, you know we didn't make this movie with 3d in mind.
movie bosses: Whatever, you know what people like, multiple villians. Maybe we can add a villain that is made out of sand.
director: 3d it is!

Saw a preview before Avatar..."Between God's and Man..." I thought Cool, here come the preview for Clash of The Titans. Turned out to be Johnny and the lost lightning rod or something.

Right after that..."Between God's and man..." comes Clash of the Titans.

Wow...same teaser line. Did both companies hire the ACME PR Company?

I don't know much about the new movie, so I'm curious. What makes this so distasteful?

chrisdmid: I don't know much about the new movie, so I'm curious. What makes this so distasteful?

I'm going to guess it's considered distasteful based on the fact that any modern take on Greek myth seems to make Hades the villain, even though Lord of the Underworld and god of death were basically just his job and not anything to do with being TEH EBIL.

Aside from the rape of Persephone, Hades got along with the Olympians better than any number of other gods.

For my part, at least it's not Dionysus as the vampire devil.

He was still loathed, more so for his unyielding nature......but then death is sorta unyielding so there is that.

...not that I'm trying to equate the Clash of the Titans remake with the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but there were lots of reshoots for each part of LotR, if I recall. Like all the actors having to go back to NZ two years after principle photography wrapped. So reshoots don't automatically mean a movie is going to suck.

Unless 'movie bosses' want to turn a non-3d film into a 3d film.

That's the Greek myth movie I'm waiting for. Considering everyone I know whose read the books loves them. This is a group ranging from a stuffy old literature professor to a Type-A Wall Streeter to my nine year old daughter. If you love Greek myths I really recommend you check the book series out. The author definitely did his research. And the books are really cheap at Wally World right now.

Thought that movie could have some potential as well, plus Sean Bean as Zeus IIRC (does that mean he's going to die!? I think Sean Bean's contracts always say his character MUST die)

He's not alone in being a prick though, right? I guess my confusion is about the "shiatting in the face" because very few of the Olympians (if any?) were role-models, and the ones who were actual heroes tended to be demigods who were immortalized as constellations. The gods were petty, sex-driven, puppetmasters who liked to turn people into animals just for daring not pay them homage. If you're gonna pick a god to be a bad guy, I don't see why choosing Hades is any more face-shiatty than choosing, say, Hera or Poseidon.

He may be an easy target since he is the god of death and the underworld, but I don't see it as an *inherently* bad choice.

It is because they set it up as the typical "hades is satan and the bad one, and the other gods are good" crap. Not to mention the original clash of the titans had a completely different story.

ARES was the real god they feared. They should have done that instead.

I'll agree to that. Hades was only the keeper of the dead. Ares was the retard asshole that sent perfectly decent and mighty heroes to his kingdom. It's like blaming Poseidon for Kennedus, the god of drowning people.
