Way to mollycoddle all those freeloading psycho-hippies in search of free soap, libtards.

If we stop giving these freeloaders toothpaste, they will learn not to squander their dopamine and serotonin and shiat.

leave it to harper government to use my taxes to pay for crazy people's tampons. as soon as Obama got elected, Harper has started bowing down to a leftist muslin and is ruining this government. gone are the days where Canada was a respected country. bowing to a socialist government.

So they reverse their decision "immediately", but only after they realize female inmates are dropping twat-blood all over the place.

Stay classy, Canaduh.

I think the government already gives donations to those women who don't know they're menstruating. And the men who don't know where they are.

So, shut up. Mind your own business about retarded people. They dance better than you.

Austin Mardon, a prominent mental health patient activist who also has schizophrenia, applauded the government for acting so quickly to reverse the policy.
He then angrily denounced the government for not acting quickly enough to reverse the policy. He then crawled into the corner, calling himself "Vanessa" and began to play the harpsichord.

TFA: toothbrushes, face soap, feminine hygiene products, razors, nail clippers

Why do they enumerate everything else specifically but just say "feminine hygiene products"? Too queezy to say "tampon", "coont-rag", "twat-stopper", or whatever else gals use?

Let the market decide.

If men needed tampons, the government would definitely subsidize that.

I worked in crisis shelters for teens for 12 years. The most useful donations were socks, jocks, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, and pads or tampons. If you want to give directly to people who will really appreciate your Xmas guilt gift, try giving the above items to a shelter. And a few books help, too. (teen books for teens, etc)

ok, now I'm sounding all preachy. But direct giving can be really gratifying.

The alberta government is back peddling on stuff like this because their policies and handling of government affairs has been nothing short of embarrassing...

And they are currently polling at like 25%. The Alberta Hospital funding cuts (like these toiletry/hygene cuts to the mental patients) have been a massive political failure because it looks like they're bullying the most vulnerable Albertans to save a few million dollars.

It also continues to make ROn Liepert, the Health Minister look like an idiot and a jackass. First, they bungle the Superboard issue...the Regional Health regions that existed previously were for the most part breaking even or saving money. They scrapped a working system for a superboard that has done SQUAT.

That's just the tip of the shiatberg.

I call shenanigans. Albertans would elect a sack of potatoes into government as long as it was with the Conservative Party.

Read about the Byberry mental hospital from near Philadelphia sometime. I recall seeing pictures from the great depression when the hospital, funded by taxpayers, couldn't afford clothes for some (many?) of its patients. They just milled about in the nude. Scary stuff.

The new CFO of the Alberta Health Authority used to be the CFO of the health authority where I currently work. Not many people cried when he left.

He's the world's biggest douchebag. I can't believe he hasn't eliminated coffee breaks and canceled Christmas yet. In fact, he's such a soulless dick that Alberta still haven't announced his hiring.

/Cool story, bro

ManicParroT: Why's Alberta trying to save money? I thought they had oil, ie, a huge money machine.

They do.

Problem is they rely on the royalties owed them on natural gas production to fill their coffers and natural gas prices have been in the toilet (well below budget projections) for the past year. Furthermore, gas production has been shrinking for several years and showing no signs of getting better.

Why not oil? Most companies don't have to pay royalties on tar sands production yet as they earn back money to cover the massive capital it took to build those huge projects.

The Alberta government botched the royalty-regime change (good intentions that would've worked ten years ago, but they picked the absolute stupidest time to implement it as shale gas plays were found in BC and the Bakken is in Saskatchewan). It helped drive exploration out of the province and lots of people in the Alberta oil patch lost their jobs as activity declined, lowering tax revenues. It's not the only reason activity declined, but it certainly was a contributor.

Plus the Alberta government is just terrible with managing money. They've had 50 years to save money in their Heritage fund with all this oil and gas wealth and so far they've only saved $15 billion to fund Alberta through eternity when the oil and gas revenues are gone. In comparison, Norway's fund is $455 billion (for 4.7 million people -- Alberta has 3.6 million people).

Yeah, Alberta doesn't count. Alberta wishes it was Texas, just like Toronto wishes it was New York.

Here in Newfoundland, we see guys go off to work in the oil patch in Alberta for few months, then come back home wearing a cowboy hat, cowboy boots, Wrangler jeans, and a Western jacket, strutting down the street like they're looking to lasso a stray calf. It's rather amusing, although the ones that come back with a serious drug habit from Alberta aren't as funny. Then you have a Newfie cokehead cowboy, which is a tragically pathetic thing.

It might be truly pathetic, but you could probably get a Film Board of Canada grant to make a movie about it. They love them some Canadian tragedy.

I dunno, I think the lack of coffee would be the real problem here. My kid has been "admitted" a few times to Ontario mental health units, and being on a youth floor, was allowed ZERO coffee. Bad scene that. Not to mention that there is no smoking allowed on hospital grounds anymore and people are stuck begging for Nicorettes (which are fortunately free).

Nickel and diming people to death, especially those who are stuck in hospitals and really don't have a way to get out and buy their own coffee - that's just stupid. What are they supposed to do - get their Mom to come in every day with tampons, coffee and a bag o Fritos?

I am sure that there is that much money to be found administratively? 70K is like one person's salary!

"pads and plugs"

I did a seven-month internship in the local forensic psych hospital. I loved the work- I'd go back there in a heartbeat if the opportunity arose. The staff were excellent, professsional and caring, and despite that, it was one of the saddest places you'd ever hope to see.

If getting free toileteries can brighten the patients' lives just one iota, then they're worth it.

trouzourt: Harper has started bowing down to a leftist muslin and is ruining this government

Dude, NEVER go full retard
Save a little, let them think you are somewhat sane, bait them in
THEN work towards full retard

But if you start out at full retard .... where can you go from there ? you are already on the bottom end of the scale, you would be forced to go back to sanity (and that is clearly something that your life plan does not include)

(btw, stock up on tampons, sounds like you are going to need em - they can block more than one type of toxic seepage)
