Interesting, as I was talking to friends who had been to Asia about college. They were saying how in China and other Asian countries, it is incredibly hard to get into college but easy to graduate. In America, it is easy to get in but you aren't guaranteed to graduate.

I just think it's a bad idea to send everyone and their dog to college. It doesn't mean anything anymore - it is what a high school education used to be. And people are spending way to much because they are told it is an "investment"
and the colleges keep hiking tuition because the gov't makes it so everyone can get loans, regardless of whether it is really a good idea.

Stupid sells tickets. I have this great idea, where everyone who buys a ticket to this movie touches it and slowly DIES of an irreversible poison. And everyone they touch dies.

Slowly, the entire world is poisoned the world over. As people writhe in their spasms of uncontrollable vomiting and sobbing, they all cry out "WE CURSE JOHNNY KNOXVILLE!"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Dumb people used to be content in living out lives as simple as they were. The problem was when we started making them believe they had the intellect to participate in critical decisions, such as deciding on a presidential candidate or owning a TV show. That's why we have people like Bush Jr. and Palin.

I very much like the way you think. My first experience with Jackass was the second movie. Never saw the show or the first movie, and when I watched the sequel, I felt like I was missing something. I laughed one time throughout the entire movie and I was high as a kite. I don't see what's funny about any of it. I did think it was all incredibly homosexual though, probably the gayest movie I've ever seen.

I'm going out on a limb here to say you don't know shiat about Carter's presidency. In fact, it's a safe bet you weren't even alive then and can't even name one of his accomplishments without loading up Wikipedia.

2009-12-20 04:41:06 AM
hmm, *without loading wikipedia* not standing up to OPEC/oil companies, bribing Israel and Egypt with the largest and second-largest "aid" packages we've paid to stop going at each others' throats and calling it an exercise in shrewd diplomacy, and accusing Americans of being in a "malaise" that surely had nothing to do with poor federal-level handling of economic problems (without offering or attempting to offer real solutions) during stagflation, and bending over for Iran/ordering a half-assed military mission that made us a laughingstock.

/wasn't alive then, is one of those pesky minorities of "young folks" who reads.

I'll readily admit I liked both the Jackass series and the movie. In some ways they're like the Mythbusters episodes we all wish Discovery channel would sanction. I mean...who, as a kid, didn't wonder what would happen if you rigged a bunch of bottle rickets to a pair of roller skates? Or wondered how a rental car agency clerk would react if you brought one of their cars back totaled?

/but then I also liked "Beavis and Butthead"

No, it just means that I hadn't memorized the text of the speech (remember, I didn't use references when responding, granted you have to take that on faith, but FWIW I didn't.) To the second point, yes, it does; I didn't claim to be a perfect moderate bipartisan here. The speech is commonly referred to as the "Malaise Speech" when under discussion, not just in center-right, or right-wing circles. I just bristle when someone leaves an offhand comment against Republicans as somehow the only party with politicians who are dumber than a box of rocks. There are more than enough examples of borderline retardation in the Democratic Party to provide counterpoint to the Republicans, and I'm especially sick of hearing the simultaneous "you all should embrace Obama, be bipartisan and accept his changes for this country" while the anti-Bush wharrrrgarbl continues unabated in every single facet of discourse.

I'm glad you chose to use the ad hominem to imply I "don't read very much;" I would challenge even the well-read to recall without references handy the exact wording, rather than the titles, of things like Presidential speeches or exact dates of things like legislation, etc.

It really doesn't matter what the desk-chair intellectuals in this thread think. The movie will make umpteen-zillion dollars and produce a profit in the first two hours of wide theater distribution, largely because the Jackass movies cost damn near nothing to produce. Other than salary requirements for the principals (Knoxville, Steve-O and Margera) you've got basically very little overhead.

And the movies themselves aren't very sophisticated, but they ARE fun to watch with a crowd of like-minded individuals. They aren't movies so much as carnival geek-shows. And while I'll freely admit the first one is far superior to its sequel, there's still something perversely compelling about watching people do stupid, ill-advised things for your amusement.

You may decry this position if you like, but producing Jackass movies is like printing a license for the dump truck full of cash to drive up to your home. There isn't a person involved in this that couldn't use another easy paycheck. So lie back and enjoy it.

One of the best parts of the Jackass movies, the entire vibe from the Jackass crew really, is that they are completely unpretentious. They know what they are doing is really gross, really stupid, and really, really gay, but they do it anyways. They also laugh at themselves.

Juxtapose that to fark, which is filled to the brim with annoying pretentiousness, people who claim intellectual superiority in between photos of smiling pears, and guys who will never laugh at themselves.

Who would you rather watch shove a match box car up their ass?
