The 10 minute YouTube clip looks pretty cool in fullscreen HD!

I've taken this train ride. It' freakin beautiful. Easily one of the most spectacular anywhere in Europe. You go from sea-level in Oslo, up to the perma-frost, then back down to sea-level in Bergen.

2009-12-19 06:25:07 PM
I've also taken this ride! Bergen itself was gorgeous and the train ride gave so many glimpses into the beauty of norway!

Here in America you can't go cross country without hitting something en-route.

The ten minute video was hypnotic in full screen. Definitely piques my interest in the full 7.5 hours

I'd rather watch Rochelle, Rochelle ("a young girl's strange, erotic journey from Milan to Minsk. It's a story about life and love and becoming a woman.")

I drove through Northern Norway this past summer. It was really amazing, especially after driving through Finnish Lapland with it's little twisted birch trees. I'll never forget the fjords. The water was the most beautiful blue color I've ever seen.

Totally pining now. Hoping to go back soon and see more.

Yes, that. I've been around much of northern and eastern Europe, and this was probably the most beautiful 8 hours of the whole time.

Have you ever watched Bergensbanen...on weed? Oh, there's some crazy shiat, man. There's a dude in the bushes. Has he got a gun? I dunno! RED TEAM GO, RED TEAM GO.

Any better torrent seed/tracker for this? The one in the article only has 6 and can't get any traffic out of them.

As someone who's pining for the fjords I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

Awesome, took this trip last summer. Although we hid a rock slide and the engine derailed but no one got hurt. Looooooong trip.

Funny enough... later the same summer I took a bus ride from Constanza (Romania, Black Sea Coast) to Istanbul. It took a little more than 24 hours. I was the only America (surprise). Out the window wasn't much more exciting than the "Desert Bus" game. Except...

The bus driver and owner were smuggling cigarettes into Turkey. The offered everybody to cartons each. I passed. We got pulled over in Bulgaria, and apparently the driver didn't know what the right "tip" was. Fortunately the bus owner did. To get into Turkey, the Turkish border guards wanted 50 bucks a piece from each of the 13 Iranian nationals on the bus. If you ever want to see two sides not budge, watch the Turks and the Iranian haggle. We got pulled over in Turkey and the bus owner paid the "tip" in cigarettes. Then the bus had a blowout and we all got to watch the owner haggle with a Turkish version of the repair guys from National Lampoon's Vacation.

I could do that. But the sheer amount of drugs involved for me to sit and watch for 7 hours... I may not survive.

Creative Commons license too. Nifty.

Taking that train trip once in fair weather is great. Having to take it more than once is dull as hell.
Then again, I can't stop being shocked over what foreigners might find extremely fascinating.

The most amazing story I heard was about a bus full of Chinese tourists heading through northern Norway. Midway across Saltfjellet, one of the tourists started yelling at the driver that he had to find somewhere to stop.
The driver does as he's told, and the Chinese tourists run out of the bus and starts taking pictures in all direction, and the perplexed bus-driver asks what they're taking pictures of, because really, there's nothing to see in miles in any direction.
One of the Chinese looks at him and says "If you had spent your entire life in a city with six million inhabitants, skyscrapers and apartment blocks as far as the eye can see, you too would be fascinated by seeing nothing wherever you look."

/Cool story bro?

I have no torrent skillz....is there a full single download for us inferior dummies who don't have / understand torrent?

2009-12-19 08:04:11 PM
Hmm, one could easily DesertBusify that trip by creating a program that would basically be a "train cockpit"-skin for a video player..

2009-12-19 08:16:03 PM
I think it would be faster to walk / row over there and take the trip in person than downloading it off torrents at the max speeds you can get off there lol...

Sweet vid tho - shame can't actually download it.

Cornwell: Then again, I can't stop being shocked over what foreigners might find extremely fascinating.

Fair enough. I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. Went to school at University of Arizona. My girlfriend & I took a kid from Boston down to Nogales Az/Mexico. He spent the whole ride staring out the window at the desert. To us it was just "the same old thing." To him it was fascinating.

Do you know how many natural snow-melt waterfalls there are in Phoenix?

I'm downloading it at about 500kB/s and uploading it at 3.4MB/s. Looks like it is going to take about 13 hours at this rate.

Maybe I'll watch it at double speed.

Lucky, Utorrent is telling me it will take 1 year and 4 weeks to download.

It stinks of complete bullshiat, but it's a cute story.

・Note - Chinese tourists don't need to travel to Norway to find areas of total desolation. Half of their own country is desert and/or steppe.

That is what I secretly think Gorgor looks like. He types with a big stick and consumes the souls of small children.
