(Some Guy) Cool Civic Christmas display takes people back 350 years when Christmas was illegal, featuring burned Christmas trees, impaled robins and severed heads choking on mince pies. Submitter wishes he lived in those times, but now he's off to the mall   (yorkpress.co.uk) divider line 122

I think I'll suggest this for next years display and avoid all the problems the county had this year.

It's so ironic that the Liberal/Progressive War on Christmas is really an effort to turn back nearly four centuries of progress. Forward-thinking, my foot.

Good, now go set your christmas tree on fire and die in it.

I used to have a copy of the Cromwellian decree that I would tape to my office door every Christmas season....it stopped people from dragging me into dreadful parties which would only lead to embarassing situations.

(Heaven forbid I actually drink too much and tell the boss what I think of him!)

You realize that the "War on Christmas" is a fake event made up by the right-wing media to get people like you to continue to watch/listen/buy their crap.

Right? You do don't you?

I'm thinking this is an isolated event and not really applicable to your broad brush. Secondly the Lib/Progres War on Xmas you speak of was invented by the likes of O Reilly.
So, there's that.

Alot of emotional appeals, little reasoning or logic.

A prime reason why I don't care about this sort of topic. If people want to act like animals dependent on their emotions, they can go right ahead.

It provides an amusing sideshow.

"Ye sordid prostitutes, have you not defil'd this sacred place, and turn'd the Lord's temple into a den of thieves by your immoral principles and wicked practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation; you were deputed here by the people to get grievances redress'd; your country therefore calls upon me to cleanse the Augean Stable, by putting a final period to your iniquitous proceedings, and which by God's help and the strength He has given me, I now come to do.

"I command ye, therefore, upon the peril of your lives, to depart immediately out of this place! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors. You have sat here too long for the good you do. In the name of God, go!"

Cromwell to the Rump Parliament, 1653. Ouch! My kinda guy.

Hey, thanks for enlightening me. I had no idea that liberals and progressives really only want to stop progress. And I definitely had no idea that they plan to do this through the War on Christmas. You have really opened me eyes. Thank you.

Cromwell and the puritains would fight right in with the "reason for the season" crowd. However, they would shun or attack those groups who boycot stores for NOT wishing a Happy Christmas in ads or at the register. I receive the newsletter for the American Family Association (for kicks) and am amused and saddened by their push for Christmas to be commercialized.

Yeah, I'm going to have to call bullshiat on that, someone who has a boss he is afraid of is not going to put up douchebag anti-holiday screeds from a violent thug on his office door.

/a few years back, one of the more liberal types had a kerry for president sign on his door, and was told to remove it. he said blah blah blah rights, free speech, and he was not going to remove it from "his door." The next morning he came in and found that his office door had been removed.

You don't have to be afraid of your boss to get fired by him for telling him off. I got roped into talking with the CEO this year while quite drunk. Scary.

BWHAHAHAHA!!! I'm an internet tough guy, and you are talking about walking around with a gun, as if telling your boss what you think of him is going to lead to a shoot out.

Anyhow, my bullshiat detector just went through the roof, champ.

Further, bragging about posting something from Cromwell on your door is like bragging that you posted something from the farking Taliban. So, good for you!

First of all, grow a sense of humor, you need one because you live in Chicago. Second of all, so do I. If you want to discuss in person go to Belmont and Western, stop in the building with all the blue and white cars in the parking lot and come up to the second floor.

We'll chat.

Gulp! I've been almost totally out tough guyed. Oh wait, how about this, the next time I am at a fundraiser for the Democrats, I will casually remark to an alderman that I happened to be in the station and i was shocked at some of the anti-christmas displays. and he'll call your captain, and the captain will call your "boss" and your boss will chew your ass out.

THAT is the Chicago way, sport.

Usually they pretend to be Marine Core Soldiers, get the meme right.

But at least I told him where I am if he wants to stop by, I think that was pretty gracious on my part. You know, just to clear up the bullshiat aspect of it all.

Well sport, you do you have me there, by all means play the alderman card. That is the Chicago way and I concede your superiority in playing the game.

Oh no, dude, don't get me wrong, I have no trouble believing that you are a cop, none at all. I do have a huge problem believing that you put a screed from Cromwell on your "door" in a CPD building.

I am a big cop, come to Belmont and Western and I'll kick your ass.

halof33, I never said I would kick your ass, your paranoia is growning.
