A disgusting lack of internal controls. If this were a publicly traded company they would be delisted. A government agency - it is business as usual.

They really mean it when they say not to leave cars, luggage or money unattended at the airport.

Denver police executed at least one search warrant for a DIA employee's personal back account.

The first commercial flight from here to Denver does not leave until 9:10 AM. Dang!

Would anyone with a private plane be able to swing by St Louis and pick me up before then?

No luggage and I know some good jokes.
It would be a fun trip.

If you find large sums of cash laying around, always turn it in...

One of two kinds of people lose large sums of cash, and they will either show up with handcuffs or a silenced pistol to collect it.

Dang it, this was long term? I was secretly hoping for a neat bundle of $170,000 in a Hello Kitty lunchbox or something.

And there would be a transmitter hidden inside with a blinky light and Russian letters and everything. And the blinking light would be Hello Kitty's eye, that way nobody would ever suspect it was a secret package; instead they'd think it's just a really cool lunchbox.

If it's the latter, these kinds of people are not generally given access to the surveillance tapes. Wait 3 days and spend away!

Sumo Surfer: with a blinky light and Russian letters and everything. And the blinking light would be Hello Kitty's eye

Never understood why every transmitter or bomb or whatever has to have a blinky light in hollywood.

One of the few things I appreciated about Death Race was that the car-bomb didn't freakin' blink.

I'll be at the DIA on Monday morning. If I find it, I want a 15% of it as a finder's fee.

/I'd love to be charitable and only take 10%

"If I don't have the evidence, I'm not going to charge somebody and ruin their life," Chief Deputy District Joe Morales told the DenverChannel Friday.

Wow, he really is the exception, isn't he.

In the middle of an airport right before the holidays? No, I'll just throw away my other carry-on.

If you ever find a huge sum of money like this, don't be a dumbass and deposit it in your bank account. Banks tend to get suspicious of large cash deposits.

Wait, taxi drivers there actually have to pay to get into the airport to pick up passengers? Am I missing something or is that a completely bullshtit rule?

"Perhaps somebody took it, perhaps it's been bad record keeping," DIA spokesman Jeff Green told TheDenverChannel.

Perhaps.

I wonder if they're hiring? I could use a little lotta extra holiday money.

2009-12-19 10:15:54 AM
So the machine collects about $10,000 per day, meaning (I assume) somebody else was emptying it for 17 days without being caught.

Well... good for them.

2009-12-19 10:59:10 AM
Yeah, but I'm sure they'll do a great job running health care.

$170,000.00?
Chump change! We had a clerk at a municipal court who took several MILLION dollars. And a recent audit, said the city was doing a GREAT job of record keeping!

Any time you have piles of loose, undocumented cash around, you will have a problem with me stealing it.

2009-12-19 03:17:08 PM
Someone ran off with what is essentially a business tax? I can't see where this is any worse than letting government throw the money away.

Hey, wait! Maybe that's what happened. They just forgot to count it before throwing it in the trash.

randomjsa: If you find large sums of cash laying around, always turn it in... sit on it for a couple of years minimum, then launder it a little at a time.

One of two kinds of people lose large sums of cash, and they will either likely never show up with handcuffs or a silenced pistol to collect it as long as you're patient and careful.

FTFY.

2009-12-19 10:10:26 PM
I'd rather leave the money where it was and run like farkery then deal with Denver cops. The whole city makes the Fark Internet Tough-Guy Cop-Hater Brigade look correct.

2009-12-20 01:40:10 AM
And they (Dems) want a Govt. run Health System. Go ahead idiots let them steal it in plain sight!!!!
