Poor guy, he was great on the commentary for the movie and it's a must-listen. It's on the release with the original poster cover, not the new one with the baffling generic Halloween green dollar store cover.

What a farking waste. He will be missed.

About to head to the ER for a horrible Crohn's flare up that's lasted that past 6 weeks (no doctor will give me anything but prednisone and pain killers. won't stop the bleeding and pain), so I'm getting a kick out of th.... okay, no, this sucks. I honestly would take an amputation over this disease. My insides feel like what a Boomer in L4D looks like.

Dark Star is a true classic sci-fi movie for anyone who ever enjoyed MST3K. It's bad in a good way. I can't believe he wrote and appeared in that, and then worked on Star Wars in '77, and then wrote Alien. That's a hell of a career arc.

Goodnight, sweet prince, and flights of aliens wing thee to thy rest.

Before I found out I have Crohn's I probably would have cracked a funny poop joke, as well.

Having gone through the pain and agony, I can only hope he found some periods of relief.

I caught on of my customers eating pho at his shop the other day, and he broke it to me that he had Crohn's. He said he eats it all time because that's one food that never causes problems for him. I don't know much about Chrone's but, I had never heard that before. If that's little known secret, I hope it helps someone.

dropping back in to say just god damn it.
Michael farking Bay is gonna make more movies.
Ben raping Affleck is going to make more movies.
Dan dildo Brown will write more books.

But we get no more Dan O'Bannon,
who consistently supplied us with quality
escapism and horror. I saw Dark Star by accident in college
one night.. it's still one of my favorite films, and I think
about it every time I get discouraged with the stupid film
business. Hokey, cheap, compelling, funny...

bah. too hammered to write coherently, but hearing this news
this morning made it near impossible for me to work today. I
don't know why it affected me so much, I guess it just feels
like we lost one of the real good ones, and a criminally
under-appreciated one at that. The guy was damn near invisible
but had a hand in many of the better SF films of my young life.

Godspeed, Dan. Hope you catch the Phoenix asteroids.

just looked at your profile - you appear to be young and hot. That makes Crohn's really suck for you. I was "lucky" to not get it until I was done being young and hot( well, a few people thought so anyway :) ). If you haven't already tried it and you have decent insurance, get on Remicade and 6MP both ($50,000 annually). A recent study I was involved in showed huge success when Crohn's patients used both in tandem. I happen to be allergic to 6MP but Remicade kept me in remission for almost 4 years - I just started flairing about 6 weeks ago myself. Good Luck!

Oops. Thanks for correcting me. Must have been the subliminal cues to my brain from listening to the "erection lasting longer than 4 hours" ED drug commercials.

darch: Jesus, I had no idea there were so many Crohn's sufferers on Fark- no wonder the attitudes are so shiatty.

Actually, I bet those on Fark who have gone through terrible diseases are probably the most well-behaved and thick-skinned people here, and best able to look at everything in perspective.

But hey, whatever strokes your ego.

It's a pity that the collaboration between O'Bannon, Jodorowsky, Geiger, and others to make a Dune movie never went anywhere. It wouldn't have been anything like the book, but I'm sure it would have been fascinating.

2009-12-19 10:43:42 AM
post thought: Then again, it was the failure of Dune that lead to O'Bannon writing Alien, so maybe it was worth it.

I had good success this time with Humira. My regular fix is 5-ASA (all day). This bout lasted a year and a half, and I'd been healthy for three years before. About six weeks in, my boss took me aside and asked if I "had drug problems or something". I'd lost 25 pounds (I'm normally 5'10/170), my face was pale white, and I'd been caught asleep at my desk at 11am.

This is a really miserable disease with horrible physical and emotional consequences. I pity anybody that has to deal with it, and also the family members who have to put up with the sufferers. I'm basically a miserable, boring zombie when I'm sick. I can't drink, and I can't eat anything enjoyable. I don't know how my girlfriend deals with it.

I also pity you American farkers for having to pay for this stuff. In America Jr it's all "free", you just have to wait forever and complain really loud to get any service. I was tempted to ask for pot this time around, but I didn't want to piss off my doctor.

Merry Christmas and godspeed to you both. Rex - good on you for sponsoring the hot young chick. Kaldea, you are probably too hot to have Crohn's disease.

WS,

Thank you, I've been recommended to try that medicine before, I think I have to. They admitted me, I'm here on my second night, but I can already tell the IV steroids are helping.

I had Infuenza A(or h1n1, as my doctor blindly assumed) beginning of November, and as soon as I finished my Tamiflu the bleeding and pain started. It's been constant, every day, all day ever since. I lost 18 lbs (I didn't have that much to lose without looking off imo, but not complaining), and it hasn't returned. I can't afford all the time I have to take off from my horrible job, but it's given me time alone to catch up on the plethora of games that are out there this season. I never comment on Fark anymore, even though I spend the majority of my time at work and at home here but I had to comment on this and I am happy no one ruined this thread. I have sincere condolences to O'Bannon, I had no idea he was a sufferer (although I suppose I would have never thought to look), but I have enjoyed knowing there are others out there that, although diagnosed, are humbled and friendly enough to be a mini support group on here.

If you don't mind, you, Rexnexus , please feel free to email me or something. I'm lonely, no family out here in Orlando since I just moved, so no visitors! :)

Hah, you people and your colons. I find you amusing. Life is much better without one (as long as you don't get chronic proctitis as a reward). I went from undiagnosed and healthy to missing my colon and 25% of my body weight in 4 months.

Tysabri is scary, but if I miss a dose by 3 weeks I can feel it coming back.

/going downstairs to administer canasa
