FTA:
Karzai, who is beginning his second term, also plans to keep on board a legendary warlord who holds political sway in the West, the officials said.

Well at least someone in the Cabinet knows what is best in life.

INTERVIEWER. Today saw the appointment of a new head of Allied Bomber Command - Air Chief Marshal Sir Vincent 'Kill the Japs' Forster. He's in our Birmingham studio...

SIR VINCENT. Hello Sailors! Listen, guess what. The Minister of Aviation has made me head of the RAF Ola Pola.

Well, in their defense, the Opium crop was down a bit this year, so they're currently experiencing a bit of a cash-flow shortage.

If this is nation building, I'd say you should have gotten a permit and checked the references of your contractor.

Why don't they just call bribery 'lobbying'? It's what we do.

hitlersbrain: Why don't they just call bribery 'lobbying'? It's what we do.

I wonder if one day they'll have an independent, droopy faced, cartoon voiced politician that runs on an anti-opium platform but is really in the pocket of the opium trade.

We're fighting to preserve Democracy over there so we don't have to fight to preserve Democracy over here!

Afghanistan is a joke. Why are we sending more troops to die when they are just going to keep killing themselves and blowing themselves up?

Let them kill each other, but not our soldiers!

Don't you watch the news?

The world's biggest drug dealers have half our Congress and Senate bought and paid for and are fighting to make sure people keep dying so they can make obscene profits.

That would be Ismail Khan, the minister of energy and the so-called ""Lion of Herat".

This guy is one of the major players in Afghanistan, and has been for a long time. He is more or less the king of Herat, and if he decided to break away the western part of the country and form his own kingdom, the people would follow. They ADORE him. If Karzai tried to get rid of him, he would be biting off a LOT more than he could chew.

Actually, it's a shame Massoud got himself assassinated right before Sept. 11...he would have been a much better leader than Karzai; strong Mujahideen credentials, broad base of support, and even his detractors respected him. Except for the Taliban, who don't respect anyone.

I don't understand the asinine tag or the some of the comments. It appears that this article illustrates Karzai's willingness to help reform his country...

I've been thinking of changing vendors and this cinches it.

I want to buy my elected officials from the same store Karzai uses. What's the website?

FTA: President Hamid Karzai plans to replace heads of two ministries linked to corruption while retaining several others favored by the West

See, it's funny because Karzai used to be favored by the west, and now people realize that he's perhaps the most corrupt man in this country, but the west refuses to admit that.

HotWingConspiracy: That guy is going to end up being the main reason we can't accomplish anything there.

I concur. Abdulah Abdulah would have been a much better governor, but he couldn't buy unify as much support as Karzai could with the Pashtun backing.

Massoud would have been a much better choice than Karzai, but being dead has a lot of disadvantages. Even Omar the One-eyed would probably have been less corrupt and more effective. I think the best choice would have been to reinstall the king, but then how could America claim to be making the world safe for democracy? And sadly, he died over two years ago.

But seriously, it's imperative we stay the course in Afghanistan, so we can get the high score in the "imperialism" arcade game.
