2001-09-20 10:55:48 PM
Did you see the look in his eyes? Bush means business! Great speech.

2001-09-20 10:56:11 PM
Well, one good thing, he's getting better at reading from the teleprompter.

2001-09-20 10:57:48 PM
Except he called the Speaker "Pro Temporary" instead of Pro Tempore...heh heh, that's my Bush....the dumbshiat!

2001-09-20 10:58:27 PM
F.ucking great speech. Too bad he didn't bust into any Afghani war chants in the middle there...

2001-09-20 11:00:54 PM
I personally am proud of our form of government that leads to a speech like this one.

I think he pushed every button he needed to.

I am so farking proud of this country..! Even the hippies got their voice.

I can't believe the handful of people that pop on here and immediately criticize the President after his speech. Send me your addresses, I'm buying you one-way tickets the hell out of my country. You make me sick.

GO USA!

2001-09-20 11:04:05 PM
much better than anything else he did before. good speech.

Legman... he said 'tempory' instead of 'temporay', i thought it funny (and a worrisome start). the rest of it was pretty sweet and (honestly) well-delivered.

'From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime.'

I hope no terrorists are being harbored here..

First : You have just answered why OUR country should not be YOUR country. why the fark do people think it is bad to criticize an elected leader? that is the great thing about our country. Tell me, did you ever criticize clinton or reagan (i don't want to make any assumptions about your politicspolitiks
it would be as unfair as what you have just done.)

Second : mutt, I don't really consider anything said before you posted to be critical. Commentary, but not critical.(although I'm not sure what Michael meant by 'der.')

2001-09-20 11:11:49 PM
I pull back the mutt part, poor editing as I changed my comment

When he paused, stared at the camera, and then did the "clinton 'index-finger-hooked-around-the-thumb'" gesture, I did roll my eyes a little...

but the rest of the speech was good.

2001-09-20 11:15:23 PM
Wow, I was really impressed by the Prez and his speech. He said everything I wanted him to say and he actually sounded good.

"cuz i'm proud to be an american,
where at least i know I'm free..."

2001-09-20 11:15:58 PM
There are times to be critical, and there are times to support your President. I didn't vote for him, but I sure am proud of him right now. I think coming on any forum and calling him a "dumbshiat" and casting judgment on the speech as "fluff" after hearing only a couple of minutes is stupid, classless, and un-American. I absolutely am a free speech proponent, and I support the right of everyone here to make as many stupid comments as they want, but pointless ragging of our leader during the the USA's most critical moment of my generation makes me ANGRY, and it's going to elicit a reaction out of me. I hope I'm not alone.

If I need to use the tags next time, let me know. I wasn't actually planning on buying anyone plane tickets. I was making a point.

2001-09-20 11:16:37 PM
CNN should cool it with the soundtrack and the stars 'n stripes graphics. Just too much like drum-banging and propaganda. This deserves more dignified coverage.
Our bravest men and women are risking their lives for our safety. This is serious.

And Larry King's needling of our brave citizens on that warship showed him to be the ass that he is. Anyone notice that? He was a farking rude-boy.

I am a die-hard democrat in most respects, but I must say, when Bush has some time to rehearse, he can be a decent speaker. This one was pretty good, although nowhere near a Clinton speech.

2001-09-20 11:17:31 PM
there is a time to criticize and now is not it.

2001-09-20 11:18:04 PM
oops, stupid HTML, should have read:

Anyone else a little worried about this post of Homeland Security? While it's good to have someone keeping an eye on this, for some reason that title just rubs me the wrong way.

2001-09-20 11:22:09 PM
HEIL BUSHLER! Don't ask questions, lets just reject all ofters for comprimise, make sure that Afghanistan cannot turn Bin Laden over and BOMB THEM.

It's UN-AMERICAN to oppose America bombing that bully country of Afghanistan with their luxorious capital!

USA-Afghanistan
USA-Iraq
USA-Grenada

The US is picking easier fights than Mike Tyson.

Anyways, who the heck wants to PROVE he did it. I mean, He's GUILTY until proven otherwise! Isn't that America is all about? (errr... no!)

2001-09-20 11:22:16 PM
Dumas,
Clinton is probably the best speaker we've ever had. (although i can't comment on the ones we've obviously never known)
Its close, but I would put him a nudge ahead of Reagan.

Bush, usually, is visibly uncomfortable (and probably a bit selfconcious about possible misspeaks) but he really did great tonight.

I'm not sure if it is a rehearsed thing, I think it seems that if it is more from the heart.

(No , I don't mean that he doesn't "mean" the other parts, but it doesn't quite flow when you have to remember it)

2001-09-20 11:23:08 PM
Don't question it.. HEIL BUSH!

2001-09-20 11:23:14 PM
To all the Farkers who feel they HAVE to post a comment to show the whole world how witty you are. How even in the patriotic of all times, be an asshole, degrading a president on the verge of war, when he is trying to rally his troops, congress and citizens. I say to you people that you are nothing more than the fringe of society. You will never make any kind of contribution to America. You will always be in the back of the room heckling the person who is trying to lead. Only because you have no talent yourself, you feel the need to belittle the talented. My President was a King tonight. If you were not touched by that speech then I think citizenship in another country should be a major consideration for you. That was the best of this country tonight.

2001-09-20 11:24:16 PM
Another great speech was delivered tonight on Comedy Central. Jon Stuart is great on the Daily Show.!

Anyone see it?

Dude... They're f.ucking jokes. LIGHTEN UP TIGHTASS!

2001-09-20 11:26:15 PM
This was the first Presidential speech I've watched completely in a long time...and I thought it was great except for one thing--They kept showing Hillary Clinton. That biatch makes me want to barf. Her clapping and mannerism reminded me of someone that really didn't want to be there cause they thought they were better than everyone else there...including the President.
Thank God she moved the hell out of Arkansas.
There...I feel better. I now go back to whence I came...Lurksville.

Don't Tread On Me
by Metallica

Liberty or death, what we so proudly hail
once you provoke her, rattling of her tail
never begins it, never, but once engaged...
never surrenders, showing the fangs of rage

don't tread on me

so be it
threaten no more
to secure peace is to prepare for war
so be it
settle the score
touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore...

don't tread on me

love it or live it, she with the deadly bite
quick is the blue tongue, forked as lighting strike
shining with brightness, always on surveillance
the eyes, they never close, emblem of vigilance

don't tread on me

so be it
threaten no more
to secure peace is to prepare for war
so be it
settle the score
touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore...

don't tread on me

so be it
threaten no more
to secure peace is to prepare for war

liberty or death, what we so proudly hail
once you provoke her, rattling on her tail

so be it
threaten no more
to secure peace is to prepare for war
so be it
settle the score
touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore...

don't tread on me

Outshined, it's cool. I realized what you meant.

DeLaRocha (first of all, are you 'famous'? you look incredibly familiar)
There aren't many countries that match w/US right now.
Although we didn't go to battle, we did butt heads with
USSR for quite a few years.

Is 1940's Japan a little tiny army?

1990 Iraq was considered one of the worlds best armies (I think the 5th largest in the world at the time, iirc)

You are right. I don't think we (necessarily) yet know who did it. However, the evidence seriously points to bin Laden AND bin Laden has been implicated in the attack on the Cole, the WTC bombing and the attempted attack on LA for the millenium.

(you)Isn't that America is all about? (errr... no!)
unfortunately, you are right here.

DeLaRochaIt's UN-AMERICAN to oppose America bombing that bully country of Afghanistan with their luxorious capital!
I think you are being facetious here, right? It is everything that america is about to voice your disagreement.

I really hate when certain folk come in and tell people to get another country. THAT is UNAMERICAN

2001-09-20 11:31:58 PM
Pinky, NO DAMMIT I FORGOT TO WATCH!! DAMN!!

oh and about the speech, i thought it was excellent, but for some reason I still don't like Bush. He's doing a really good job, but personally I just am not yet a fan.

on another note, everybody can have a little mental exercise(what my friends and I did after we watched the speech tonight), and ask what this time would be like if Al Gore had become president.

Or if Clinton was still president.

Or if, by some random chance, Ralph Nader had somehow become president.

Now that's scary.

Even Dan Rather was gushing about that speech.

I thought that he did a lot of good things:

1. Made it clear that our enemy IS NOT the Arab-American with the gas station on the corner or the Islamic church or whatever they worship in. A temple?

2. He did not waste words. We make demands on the Taliban, no negotiation, and any country not with us will be on our receiving end too.

3. Props to Tony Blair.

4. The deceased included people from many other countries.

5. The Taliban practices medievel, backward-ass, hateful principles. He should have mentioned that women cannot get health care in radical Islamic controlled areas either.

I for one felt good seeing the roomful of people rally around such a strong message. Although I am a Bush fan, and although I think he did a great job tonight, it must be easy to gather the countries support in a situation like this if you do it right. I am sure that Gore, Clinton or McCain would have had everybody sitting and standing at a similar rate. I would have felt just as good if the message came from Gore. This is a great time to be an American, as our fellow countrymen metamorphisis from seemingly apathetic fat cats to a solidified, patriotic (I know the word is overused, but it has no substitute) country of Americans.

if you take it w/ a grain (or more) of salt it is a bit funny.. unless you have high-blood pressure

Was it me or did bush look stoned? Just look at the eyes, red, very red.

or maybe he was really tired.

Metallica is almost cool.... *Almost.*

Still your comments are timely. Thank you.

I really thought he started to come into his own when he ditched the teleprompter, began to speak from his heart, and showed actual human emotion. Speaking to the common man on a human level. He related to people, while not as effectively as Clinton, compassionately and humanely because he has the intellect of the common man. Sure, we can mock him because he pretty much surrounds himself with people that pick up his intellectual slack, but he was groomed throughout his early adulthood to be a public figure. And yes, while his speech tonight was peppered with slight imperfections and mispronunciations (for example, it's pronounced "al-kay-duh", not "al-ky-duh") the emotional cauldron that he finds himself steeped in has caused him to rise to the occasion. He ain't perfect, and I still think McCain woulda been a whole hell of a lot more an effective public spokesman, but I've become fond, even proud, of the goofy bastard. Rock on, you crazy hillbilly, and God bless America.

2001-09-20 11:34:00 PM
As to the new post 'Office of Homeland Security' :

When I read that in the speech text I immediatly got a flashback to babylon 5 (b5 rules) where the earth government had the 'Office of public safety'. Sounds really oppresive.

2001-09-20 11:34:06 PM
Batman...
Nader? I love him and all he has done for the country... but if he was president when this happened? ooh, scary.

2001-09-20 11:34:16 PM
I think Bush has really come into his own since September 11. He was still shaky then, but these daily addresses have made him into a credible, more confident speaker. Mr. President gets a salute from me; I believe he has become someone worth voting for. And his speechwriter -- hats off to that guy as well. Great words. "The unmarked grave of history's discarded lies" ... that is POETRY, friends.

I always did admire Clinton as a speaker, though. I hope Willy's doing well through this whole thing.
