How about you plant those trees because they are a valuable resource? Why does EVERYTHING have to be for a reason? And a political reason at that, what garbage. Way to go CNSNews, for giving that company exactly what they wanted - a political agenda and advertising campaign.

Does the Queen of England fly British Airways in economy? What about Michaëlle Jean? I don't know if she ever does international summits, but if so, how does she travel safely?

Hell we live in an age when a Governor who commutes to work everyday via a private jet because he wants to live at home and drives Hummers and lives in a monstrosity of a home can be declared the second most "green" governor in the country and get on the cover of Newsweek for his environmental crusade

Yeah, it's totally stupid to plant trees in an age where acres and acres of rainforest are being cut down every day.

1,200 trees, huh?

Do they calculate the carbon cost of planting those trees in the first place?

I mean, planting that many trees is going to require a lot of manpower, hauling costs, groundwork machinery, and administrative centers for coordination, account management, and landscape design. What about production of fertilizer at the tree farms? irrigation system?

Wonder how much carbon all that takes to get done???

The trees are doing their job whether they are planted in the ground or sit in pots, like they are in now.

I highly doubt those trees were going to be killed if they were not planted. This whole carbon offsetting crap is stupid.

No, not "THIS." (What's the opposite of saying "THIS?")
It's never stupid to plant trees.
Maybe calling it "carbon offsetting" is a little silly, but planting trees is a good thing, no matter what their rationale is.

To be fair, since 2005, his Hummer is hydrogen powered . . .

And flew to Denmark via commercial airways . . .

But you are right about his home being pretty big (6,000 sq/ft). He was going to live in one of our projects right next to the State Capitol, but felt the voters wouldn't be a fan of paying for him to live in the penthouse of a downtown hotel - so he stayed at his private residence.

Good point. Or, we Canadians have some kind of Star Trek-ian replicator that creates trees automagically.

There have been more than a billion flights occurring within the past 20 years.

So far I've planted ... 0 ... offset trees. But I did have the one in my front yard pruned because it was hanging over the street and getting in the way of the mailman's truck.

Trees don't make carbon magically disappear. They sequester it. That is until they die. Then all that carbon is released back into the environment.

The smoke coming off burning wood isn't unicorn farts.

But if nobody buys/plants those trees, the tree farmers won't bother to grow new ones to replace their inventory.
