Dominick the Donkey? (new window)

By FAR the most annoying Farking Christmas tune ever. If I was in prison and had to listen to that, I'd sue for cruel and unusual punishment.

Thank God I'm not the only one who hates that stupid "Christmas Shoes" song! It's not sappy, it's not beautiful, it's just stupid! Hi, Mr. Stranger. I know my clothes are all worn and I haven't bathed in weeks, but my mom's dying and we don't have any money, so I'm trying to buy these shoes so she'll be pretty when she dies. And instead of calling children's services or trying to help this soon-to-be-orphan, Mr. Stranger gives him enough money for the shoes. Ta-da! Merry Christmas, folks!

/Amy Grant's "Grown Up Christmas List" is up there for most annoying, too.

True, but there IS the Eighth Amendment which bans cruel and unusual punishments. Of course, Sheriff Joe has never let a minor inconvenience like the United States Constitution get in his way.

I really just want to see that puffed-up douchebag arrested already. Not for this necessarily, but his constant media-whoring and overwhelming sense of self-heroism is grating.

I'm skeptical that Sheriff Joe would do anything to make inmates' existence any nicer. So I'm thinking whatever they're piping in, it's brutal.

wyltoknow: his constant media-whoring and overwhelming sense of self-heroism is grating.

Last I checked the media wasnt having guns held to their head to sing his praises, comrade.

The guy is a hold out that has a lot of things right - the first goal of prison outside of protecting the population is to motivate prisoners that they dont want to go back.

Lastly - if people keep voting him in, then he is representing his populace. If they're for harsher punishments, then who are we to tell them they cant have their own representative government? Personally I dont give two shiats if you like it or I like it or anyone else. I dont biatch about luxury federal prisons any more than I biatch about the opposite end of the spectrum.

If his constituents are happy and he's not breaking, local, state or federal laws or the constitution then everyone else needs to STFU and mind their own business.

And yet the people of Maricopa county keep putting him back into office. He is rather effective from a law enforcement perspective and he has helped to reduce the crime rate. However he is not, as he would like to believe he is, the sole reason for the reduction in crime.

I'm torn on what to think about him. On one hand I appreciate some of the things he accomplishes. On the other he's kind of a dick and needs to be investigated for his strong-arm tactics.

I'm glad we have such respect for potentially innocent people, remember Ol Joe runs the jail, not the prison meaning people awaiting trial end up there. Last I checked we lived in an innocent until proven guilty society (well aside from louisiana).

Inquisitive Inquisitor: I'm torn on what to think about him. On one hand I appreciate some of the things he accomplishes. On the other he's kind of a dick and needs to be investigated for his strong-arm tactics.

That's where I was when he first came onto the national scene a few years back. I was like, "Yeah, prison *should* be tough. It *should* be made to make you not want to come back." As time wore on and more about Joe came to light however, I began to realize that he needs to go. He is bad for America.

His tough on crime stance is actually just bigotry with a badge. He has crossed the line from "don't want to come back to prison" to "you will leave prison scarred". He gets re-elected not so much based on his merits, but based on the smear campaigns he runs, which include perfectly timed trumped up charges levied against his opponents.

Random Guy: Damn I have been subjected to torture every time I went to the mall? Who knew, should I get a lawyer?

You can leave the mall as soon as and whenever you wish.

/I'm not saying that I agree with the "Christmas music is torture" stance, just that your logic is flawed.

Isn't this a CIA torture technique? To play the same songs over and over until the person goes insane?

You want to murder someone, go work in PB Kids. They finally got rid of it, but about three years ago the Xmas songs were all sung by kids. Tone deaf ones at that. It's like when you go to someone's house and they force you to watch their snowflake's "holiday concert," but for a full shift.

/that and cleaning out the diaper/maxi-pad leavings will make anyone hate working there

"and forced participation in religious celebrations."

So he is forcing the prisoners to bow down and pray to some deity (or deities). no?

Then he is forcing the prisoners to sing praises to some deity (or deities.) No?

So he is forcing the prisoners to make sacrifices to some deity (or deities.) No?

So where it the "forced" part?!?

Oh, I know! If you hear the words "Merry Christmas" or "God bless us, every one" you are forced into religious celebrations. So....

BEHOLD MY POWER! I WILL FORCE EVERYONE ON FARK INTO RELIGIOUS CELEBRATIONS!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND GOD BLESS US EVERY ONE!!!!!!

I think that subtlety is lost on many people. And, yeah, pumping in bad Xmas tunes is just torture. Not to mention filling inmates with frustration and hate isn't doing anyone any favors.

One more time for the mouthbreathers:

Joe runs a JAIL, not a prison. A good chunk, perhaps a majority of the people there have not yet been convicted of any crime. He's torturing potentially innocent people.
