i believe newton wrote some laws on this topic

2009-12-16 09:24:18 AM
Hmm... I DO have a couple of empty spaces in my bumper since I don't have fog lights. That could make the morning commute much more interesting.

2009-12-16 09:25:39 AM
So what's the problem? If it works, pretty cool. If it doesn't well, less stupid genes in the gene pool

you can call me retarded but i thought that was pretty BADDASS

2009-12-16 09:26:13 AM
So I used to do tech support for a defense contractor and one time this guy called and asked if he could buy a jet engine to attach to his wheelchair so he could set a land speed record.

I couldn't tell if he was joking.

2009-12-16 09:26:34 AM
Done properly, I think it's a great idea.

Hell, with a bit of work and maybe some patents, he might be able to sell this to the military for some obscene amount of money.

This cannot end well.

I have wanted to do this ever since I started riding my Harley in 1972.
People in cars are idiots

I think they need to work on the guidance system.

I wonder if you could use the speed of the bike to do a soft launch so you could have a more powerful rocket that would screw up driver.

Scaryduck: This cannot end well.

It'll end alright.

I want mine to be laser guided.

is this a bad thing, other than being incredibly geeky? If he could modify it to explode on impact and have an accurate aiming system, I'd take two. Better make that three - my ex-wife drives pretty damn fast.

Biness: i believe newton wrote some laws on this topic

You're correct, but it's important to note that a rocket imparts no force on its launcher, or at least, minimal force. So, Newton won't be tossing this guy off his bike or anything.

kittyhas1000legs: I DO have a couple of empty spaces in my bumper since I don't have fog lights.

Your best bet is to use a small model rocket engine. A small A. The next question is: do you want the payload to be reusable? Because that determines whether you try and build a small housing for the motor or just glue flanges to it that act as stabilizers.

GPS? Who needs it, when you can clear your own way?
Turn left at the smoldering crater

You're prepared for every contingency: Terrorism, alien attack, or asshole taking up two lanes
Go back to the nursing home, grandpa

If movies have taught me anything is that a rocket will totally vaporize a vehicle allowing me to drive right through the fireball.

Maybe so, but at least they surround themselves with a ton or two of steel. The motorcyclist may be in the right, but that's not much comfort when your body is the crumple zone in an accident. So who's the real idiot?

Reusable is usually better. The only difficult part may be finding somewhere to attach it that's not plastic.

Thanks a lot subby. It's only 8:40 in the morning and now I already feel the need to crack open a Bud light AND attach a rocket to my scooter. I hope you feel shame!

Ahh yes, now I can leave this thread happy.

/ though I can leave faster with a rocket strapped to my ass...

First off, never show your face in a video when you're doing something that's obviously illegal(most cities will fine you out the ass for shooting off fireworks in the city limits).

Secondly, use an aluminum tube for the rocket body.

An lastly, use a C, D or E class rocket motor.

----------------

As for myself, I'd rather have a gun of some sort mounted on my vehicle. It would be much easier to do and a lot more accurate.

And for a defensive weapon, on the back of my car, I'd like to have something that sprayed adhesive followed by corn starch. You can't catch what you can't see.

Ok, if it had been actual rockets and not just bottle rockets, I might be impressed. When I was a kid in the 80's, we mounted tubes on our BMX bikes and shot bottle rockets at each other. 20 years ago (and I'm not claiming we were the first to do so by any means). What exactly is the news story here? Why is this front page worthy?
