There doesn't really seem to be an "evolution" there, just a bunch of random posters throughout history. Still cool, though.

I never "this" but if I did "this", I would have "this"ed this comment.

My favorites on here were Rosemary's Baby and Pandorum for spooky-ass imagery. The Poltergeist poster was fail as it says it was from a 2007 Canadian film festival.

This one has always stuck with me for some reason.

Wow! I didn't know Carol Anne was into ice hockey. :-/

/way to choose the original poster there, dumbasses

And, way to choose the "28 Weeks Later" poster under the heading "28 Days Later".

The fail is strong with this one.

and the fail is strong with me as well... based on the description of that section, they chose the wrong title for the heading. :-/

My pick for the best horror movie since the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE:

INSIDE (2007)

I like the simple ones that scare you with being so stark. So count me in for Rosemary's Baby, Alien, and Silence of the Lambs. (and fail on picking the re-release Poltergeist poster)

Why the hell is there a hockey game on the TV in the Poltergeist poster?

2009-12-16 06:54:54 AM
Never mind. I see that it was done for a Canadian film festival in 2007. Canada + hockey = clever, I guess. Still, pretty lazy of the guy to use that image instead of the actual, iconic poster.

2009-12-16 07:02:20 AM
And Shaun of the Dead? Really?

There are people who thought it was a horror flick?

swahnhennessy: Why the hell is there a hockey game on the TV in the Poltergeist poster?

also, the Arachnophobia poster is missing the spider that should be hanging in front of the moon.
so it's safe to assume that some of these aren't the actual movie posters.

Just came here to say that John Carpenter's 'The Thing' is a great horror movie whose special effects have really held up quite well.

labman: Just came here to say that John Carpenter's 'The Thing' is a great horror movie whose special effects have really held up quite well.

Fun fact trivia moment. Many of the special effects or rather the finality of what they would be were hidden from the actors until the actual take was done. They were prepped about what would happen, but never always shown what it would look like in reality.

So much of the reaction you see on film are the REAL reactions of the actors, especially the "Holy shiat" moments.

Another reason why the movie stands the test of time.

How do you make a list like that and then jump from 1939 straight to 1960? You miss two entire decades of great movies like radiation turns things into giant monsters or space creatures invade movies.

It's the missing link part in the guy's interpretation of 'evolution'.

Those are the worst movie synopses ever. Half of them arent even horror movies. Hell arachnophobia says "FUN!" on the poster.

I like the Alien one the best. You see the creepy egg with the crack glowing an unhealthy green and you know it's bad news.

Aliens scared the living crap out of me.

The egg and waffle poster was completely misleading, I was expecting a movie about tasty breakfast! I was like leggo my eggo ah that's not an eggo that's a chestburster! Agh, at this point I would settle for a grapefruit!

CarnySaur: There doesn't really seem to be an "evolution" there, just a bunch of random posters throughout history. Still cool, though.

I do agree that there's a randomness to the evolution. However, one thing that I noticed was the constant interpretation of women as either the victim (earlier films) or evil antagonist (whose evil ways would be halted/healed by a man).

It's no coincidence that historically, women were starting to assert their rights, resulting in literature & films showing a woman (more specifically, her vagina, since she's typically portrayed in a highly sexualized manner) as a threat.

/why yes, I am an English major

You'll also notice that the posters tend to get bleaker over time, even to the point of minimalism and that trend coinciding with the societal upheavels of the 60's into the 70's until once in the 80's the posters were very stark with very little in the subject matter other than a singular point of interest. It contracts pretty starkly with what we regard as the decade of the 80's...over the top, glam, in your face.

I would have rather had a slideshow. I hate scrolling more than a flash slideshow. At least with the slideshow, there is a little scroll bar at the bottom where I can choose to return to the beginning.

Fark farkers' hate of slideshows. That shiat is dumb.

It's a technique that's been used well. The first chest burst scene in Alien was done the same way - the actors knew they were supposed to be scared but had no idea what was coming.

Why yes, I did find that clip. (new window)

I watched it thinking the title was The Shindig. Imagine my surprise when there was very little music and dancing. Even from Scatman Crothers.

I would have been more interested if he explained why he selected the images that he did and how they conveyed fear or horror to the related film.

Then again I'm a design geek.

Also this is a better Birds poster:

Not quite as lazy as using the 28 weeks later poster for his 28 days later entry. Or you know, putting the remake of cape fear up there without including the original, or showing us the evolution of any of the long running horror series, with the exception of Alien/Aliens, neglecting to point out that Aliens isn't a horror movie.

Can a lighter -1 an already greenlit thread?

Brap

I don't think M really qualifies as a horror film, though that is a great poster.

I think "Shutter" has the creepiest poster of any of the ones in the list.

The "Aliens" poster is just boring.

2009-12-16 10:41:27 AM
Besides the fail of not being an "evolution" so much as a jumble of old and new movie posters in only vaguely chronological order and posters that weren't the actual theatrical release posters, I was expecting maybe a bit of analysis or something, not crappy descriptions that wouldn't even make it onto the back of the DVD.

It's like someone was commissioned to make a sequel but they were never told what the sequel was for so they pulled some Halloween theme out of there ass.
