Itd still be nowhere close to the failure of casting him as Peter Parker

2009-12-15 05:48:53 PM
It won't be Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit". It will be Guillermo del Toro's "The Hobbit". Jackson isn't directing.

And I'll believe this bit of casting rumor when I hear he's signed.

/still thinks James McAvoy would have been good.

I thought he was a perfect Peter Parker. The problem with the last Spiderman movie seemed to me to be more about Sony's insistence that the director include Venom, more than anything else.

I embroidered it just for you, subby.

Cool? Subby, Tobey Maguire is as close to cool as the Oral Roberts/Jesus headline is brilliant - that is to say, not very. Over-hyped but ultimately pedestrian.

2009-12-15 06:35:31 PM
Considering how LOTR trilo had Ian Helm picking up that damn ring, it makes no sense to use anyone else.

2009-12-15 06:35:52 PM
I don't think so, but it looks like he'd take it if it were offered, which it hasn't been.

I'm hoping he James McAvoy rumor is true - I think he's got the right look, accent, stature, and twinkle in his eye for the role.

Nothing against Tobey Maguire, but I just don't see it...

Tobey Maguire, Topher Grace, and Elijah Wood should be strapped to a rocket and fired into the sun.

Actually that was perfect casting. PP was always the shy nerd. Toby did a good job with the material, some of which has sucked.

So how would someone who looks like a hobbit and even goes by the nickname "Hobbit" get a role in this movie? Even as an extra?

True, but McKellen will be in it and it's meant to exist in the same "universe."

ZeroCorpse: nonononononono!

Tobey McGuire is a decent actor, but he's SO unable to "sink into" his character. If he is cast, I will only see Tobey McGuire on the screen. He can't "become" his character, because-- frankly-- he's unattractive enough to shine through any makeup.

Make him a dwarf. He looks like a dwarf.

/luckily, the rumor is false.
//He's not even British.

He looks pretty damn impressive in Brothers. The first two Spider-Man films were good as well, regardless of that goofy crap that constituted part 3.

The only casting rumor for this movie that has me excited is Tom Waits, as the voice of Smaug.

Meh.

Just tell me who Doug Jones is cast as, already.

didn't he already play Frodo? I'm supposed to suspend disbelief the same actor in two different roles in essentially the same story?

If they don't have Andy Serkis reprising his role of Gollum, figure on a third of the potential audience staying at home!

Serkis will be back as Gollum...I read an interview with him recently where he mentioned it. Who else could play that part???? Other than one of the Olsen twins.

Minus the Emo Peter Parker in part III, I thought he was a pretty decent Peter Parker. However, he was a terrible Spider-Man. The comic cheats by having his mask change shape to convey facial expressions, but the static mask and his narcoleptic line readings made a lousy Spider-Man.

He ruined Spiderman. I mean the entire series. All of those movies sucked. It was embarassing to watch (I stopped after 2)

I thought they were very enjoyable B-movies, with part 3's exception.

There's good Camp and bad Camp and that last film went the latter route.

Smaug - Ron Perlman but Waits is a good choice

Bilbo - some Brit actor - Martin Freeman (if he ever learns/get operation to not talk through his nose)/ James MacAvoy

Dwarves - Peter Dinklage/ that other small dude from In Bruges/ Warwick Davis

Dinklage is going to be busy (at least I hope he is). But considering John Rhys Davies played Gimli in LotR, I don't think they will go the route of hiring little people to fill the dwarf roles.
