40-year-old Kevin Dye of Mansfield is wanted for aggravated arson and manufacturing a dangerous ordinance

LOLWUT?

...'Smart' isn't exactly a common characteristic in that neck of the woods. Mr Dye also didn't exactly think this through: with a contrite attitude and a reasonably competent lawyer, he'd have been looking at what - maybe three months or so worst case. Now - when they catch him, and they will now that it's a Federal case - he's going to be going away for a looooooooong time...

I was thinking "Damage estimates for the blast are so high that it might take *two* days for the community to rebuild it".

Best to get drunk and do it the night before your scheduled appearance. Also leave your wallet at the scene and a trail of candy wrappers to your apartment.

I hate statements like these:

However, an ATF spokesperson says there were people in the building at the time and had the sprinklers not extinguished the fire as quickly as they did the results could have been catastrophic.

That's like saying if the brakes on my car didn't work this morning, I'd had been in a catastrophic crash.

While Mansfield may be surrounded by Amish country, the city itself is a tad more urban than the surrounding countryside. It's in Richland county, where they refer to an ankle monitor as the "Richalnd Rolex." There are two state prisons there, side by side, and a third now closed where they filmed Shawshank Redemption.

This. Dye's going to be quite the looker in federal PMITA prison.

Both muni court judges in Mansfield are reluctant to throw the book at most folks they see. You really have to go above and beyond the call of duty to really get judges Payton and Ault to drop the hammer on you. The LEOs in that area are known for being trigger happy, so I'd watch out if I were the guy.

What it's really saying is that they charge is upped from arson (burning a building) to aggravated arson (burning an occupied building).

I never lived there personally, but I was pulled over in Mansfield for speeding on my way to/from Cincinnati, before I moved back to Cleveland. Man, the cops there have no sense of humor!

I bought my second motorcycle in Mansfield. Got it off a guy living in a run down, 4 room house, with 3 kids that I saw, an enormous wife, and a projection screen TV the size of a car. When I met the man, he was wearing cowboy boots, blue jeans and a leather vest, and chain smoking Marlboros. The bike was a cherry 1985 Honda Shadow that the guy had stored along with 5 other progressively more awesome bikes in 3 run down Wal-Mart style tool sheds that had been daisy chained together.

That day, I discovered that this entire universe of people, which I had previously only thought existed in liberal caricatures of middle America, actually exist.

Thank you Mansfield, OH.
