The Tiger Woods Joke-Tank is really running dry.

Just like Tiger's sack after having extra marital relations with a bunch of sluts!

It's because Nike are scumbags.

Hey, did you guys hear that Tiger Woods got into a car accident? I hope he's alright.

I wonder how fast the Al Sharptons of the world would come out of the woodwork and go full retard if someone starts a rumor that a person at Nike breathed in the specific air that would cause them to have a dream in which they would consider thinking about contemplating the hypothetical nullification of Woods' contract.

You're truly on crack. Nike has made a hell of a lot more money on Tiger than Tiger has made on Nike. And if he keeps winning, they will again.

2009-12-14 07:38:03 PM

Time will take care of everything, even scumbag behavior like Tiger's. Look at Robert Downey Jr. It wasn't too long ago when he seemed through and was on the path to self destruction. Now he's the main man in the Iron Man franchise, and he's in a Sherlock Holmes movie that looks pretty good.

I'd give it a couple of years, Tiger will come back, telling the whole world he's reformed and once he begins to win tournaments again everyone will love him.

Crazy world we live in.

Tiger cheats on his wife a few times, his wife nearly murders him and he is persecuted.

David Letterman cheats on his wife a few times, he is made to look like a hero.

Tiger picked up women that wanted him for his celebrity.

David Letterman, pursued women that worked for him which suggests
an element of harassment might have been involved.

In either case, I could care less. Im just saying that its wierd how people are reacting to TIger.

No, I caught it, I just still don't get it. I suppose you are making some kind of comment on race, I just don't know what it is. Tiger has never aligned himself with Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson and seems to take great pains at distancing himself from any social issues at all except for education. Now I have no doubt one of them might find a way to get a quote in the paper - that's what they do. But it's a pretty hard sell to link million dollar endorsement contracts and race -0 and he damn sure would never get on a podium with either gemtleman. Advertisers are the ultimate mercenaries - they'll align themselves with anyone who will sell product. If Kobe and Mj and even M Vick kept moving product the smart guys know Tiger eventually will too.

The difference is that Letterman directly addressed the issue right when it was red hot.

Tiger decided to hide from everyone and demand he get privacy.

Proving the crime not being as worse as the cover-up.

Does Tiger deserve privacy? Sure, I guess. But in the court of public opinion when you choose to whore out your name and image for some dough, you're going to have to live by a different set of rules.

Yeah Tiger can hit a golf ball a country mile, but his handling of this has been worse than piss-poor.

2009-12-14 08:03:38 PM
Hmmm...seem to have struck some kind of chord. Well, I'm sure if the issue ever arose, Tiger would ask him to stop "helping" as it were.

Of course, one of the very few predictable things in life is how unpredictable people are. Until three weeks ago, we had this image of Tiger being perfect. People are panicky and do things that don't make sense when put into certain positions. Again, I think it would be silly to think that Nike would ever drop Tiger. I was just saying that in the unlikely event that they did, there's some possiblity that it could cause a PR shiatstorm. This is America, after all.

KiwDaWabbit: Hmmm...seem to have struck some kind of chord.

You did. You hit me right squarely in the 'what are you talking about?' chord.

Again, I think it would be silly to think that Nike would ever drop Tiger.

I wouldn't say never. This thing is still fairly young. It might have gotten as bad as it will get for him - then again, maybe not. We don't know. With this much money it's all about the lawyers/dollars. Yes, Nike is loyal to Tiger - because they think they can still make money on his back. The second that changes I imagine their loyalty will crumble like yesterday's newspaper. This chapter of marketing is still being written. Pre kobe/MJ scandals I think they'd have already dropped him. But I think the marketers learned a lot from the Kobe situation... the vast majority of his fans didn't give a shiat and they all signed right back up.

I was just saying that in the unlikely event that they did, there's some possiblity that it could cause a PR shiatstorm.

Oh I suppose it would be some kind of a big deal. Or they'd try to make it a big deal. But that accounting firm dropped him and I don't think anyone much gives a shiat. I'm sure Nike would be a much bigger deal. I just don't think the hypothetical media shiatstorm would have fark-all to do with race or Al Sharpton. Oh a column or two would be written, sure, but it wouldn't have anything to do with anyone's actual motivation.

I think that could be because you're trying to read into it like there's some broader anti-something sentiment, which there's not. Not everything in life is a master's thesis. I was simply asking "what if?" with fleeting thoughts about the potential entertainment value. It doesn't have to make any sense. With your analytical skills, you should be among the first to note that a lot of things in life in fact don't make any sense.

Tiger was crushing everyone and everything while he was married and laying the pipe to a bunch of hoes so logic would suggest that Tiger sans marriage would have been just as good, gotten just as many accolades, and made just as many endorsements (albeit with maybe a few different companies). Nike was there prior to the marriage, as was Buick and a few others I think.

Gillette, by the way, is dumping Tiger but holding on to Thierry Henry? Thierry has tagged more ass, while married, than Tiger could in another two years time and Thierry "My Game is Fair Play" Henry is, on the soccer field, a proven cheating bag of shiat.

Furthermore, it's not like Tiger married some fugly biatch, either. Jeebus H. Christ on a popsicle stick, Mrs. Woods was all that and a big assed bag o' chips, even after having 2 kids.

So what the hell? With all that coin, fame, ability - was Tiger simply too stupid to realize that these ho-bag women throwing themselves at him wouldn't do a Flo-Jo sprint to the first tabloid sleaze-bag the minute things started to go south? Or even just went public? Shiat, Tiger, didn't you go to Stanford?

However, since when is Accenture, the holdover remnant of Enron accomplices Arthur Andersen, in any position to uphold any sort of morality?

Who the fark gives a damn about what Jasper Parnevik has to say? No one went to Tiger, to his face, and told him it was a bad idea while it was happening. Fine, there is a code of conduct between men that dictates we stay out of another man's private life. However, be they supportive or not, not one golfer has come forward now and said that they tried to talk some sense into Tiger. Not one. So yeah, it is easy for colleagues to come forward now, pro and con, to comment but I don't see anyone stepping up to the plate now and saying how they tried to help the man out when he was obviously farking up.

Tiger did what he did because he is Tiger Woods, because he isn't a Saint, and because in every city he visited the upper echelon hoes came crawling out of the woodwork ready to work his cawk overtime - people need to get over it. A million guys do this same thing every day and no one says a damned thing about it. Tiger doesn't owe us any explanation.

Sorry for the length.

bwesb: Tiger doesn't owe us any explanation.

And the public doesn't owe Tiger anything either. Part of his image was as the clean cut athlete. We live in America remember? Every day we hear our leaders prattle on about 'Family Values'. We elect, or don't elect, people based on their supposed adherence to those values. And other sports stars have also fallen when their private sex lives have gone public as well. We Americans love stories about sex, where we can both revel in our own superior morality while being titillated by the details, especially when it ends up as a train wreck like this has.

No one in the public owes Tiger anything. He is a paid performer: entertain us or go away. He ended up being no better than the guy who goes on Facebook and admits robbing a Kwik shop or mugging someone. Text messages and calls do not just 'go away'. There are records of who called or texted whom. Stories of people getting caught lying and cheating because of those records make the news every day. But I guess until it happened to him personally he just thought he would get away with it. People shouldn't judge him deficient because of the girls he banged, they should judge him because of how arrogant, careless and stupid he was.

2009-12-14 09:48:02 PM
simple calculation by the nike et al., and it's the kobe scenario.

If they cut him off, and he some how pulls through this a year or two down the road, they will not be able to re-sign him. Accenture was foolish because he will never appear at their match play tournament, ever.

All any of the companies have to do is pull his ads and shut up. Wait six months/a year and see how it works out. If he makes a comeback, then they can claim they stood by tiger in his darkest hour. if he ends up in the dustbin of marketing history, they can cancel him then and it won't even be news.

Gillette (meaning P&G) is not a stupid company, so they were probably planning to cancel him anyway.

His managers are telling his endorsement partners exactly what I just said, you cut him off, you will never get him back. Give it a year.

Accenture is retards from anderson, so their stupidity is hardly surprising.

Letterman has good handlers - he was told to break the story himself, tell the whole truth, and use humor to disarm the public.

Tiger has poor handlers - he hid from the public, didn't break the whole story, and gave the public reason to be suspicious

/Key difference (besides handlers) Letterman was clearly the victim of a crime - although he probably also sexually harassed his employees - Tiger may have been a victim of domestic abuse, but who knows what really happened.

I'm not offended or Al Sharpton would be in this thread already.

I just picked his name because he's synonymous with making issues into racial outrages, some deservedly so, others not so much. I thought he was hilarious in Big Daddy.

And by the way, the reason the rehabilitation hasn't started yet is that it depends on Elin - if she splits, then there's one plan, if she stays, then there is another. So that has to get squared away first, and it appears it isn't squared away. Given the epic scope of his ho stank, I'm amazed she hasn't split yet, and it's frankly kinda weird if she doesn't. Really weird. I don't know personally of a spouse who would stay after number 2, and that's even when money is an issue. Plus she's not trailer trash (although I suspect she's super naive and sheltered).

I'm guessing letterman had that squared away up front.

Secondly, there may be more sh*t to hit the storm, namely a kid, secondarily drug use (serious drug use) thirdly, the rachel u. chick has a bigger role in this than is out there - the g. allred connection is telling, fourthly, std re elin. Maybe she found his phone, maybe she found a letter from a lab with test results, who knows. You can't get your client in front of the problem until you know what the problem is.

Letterman has been on stage his whole life, knew the game, and knew he had no choice but to confront the problem somehow, or cancel his show.

Tiger is the spoilt little rich kid who has been told his sh*t doesn't stink his whole life and has never had to deal with the press except on his terms, and then hardly ever. Now that he suddenly has found out how the real world works, getting through to him will be a bit more time consuming than advising Dave on his next monolog.

And by the way, the reason he hasn't spoken in public yet is because she did clock him with a club, he looks like sh*t, and he doesn't want that image to haunt him or her. So until his face heals up, he's not appearing in public.
