I have to side with the teacher on this one.

I was angry until I found out the girl was black.

If that was my daughter, there might now be a teacher with a large bald spot at that school.

That is friggin' assault. There are documented ways of handling disruptive students.

Blues_X: If that was my daughter, there might now be a teacher with a large bald spot at that school.

And probably a funny shaped nose.

I used to have long hair. Cutting it off was traumatic, and I wanted to do it. The teacher should be arrested for assault.

They'll send a kid who brings a plastic butter knife to school with his lunch to Gitmo. And this lady attacks a kid with scissors? Real nice.

And I don't see how hair-twirling could be that disruptive.

CheetahOlivetti: And I don't see how hair-twirling could be that disruptive.

She had large beads in the braids. So I could see them clicking together and being distracting. But if it's that distracting, send her to the office, have them call home and remedy the problem.

CheetahOlivetti: And I don't see how hair-twirling could be that disruptive.

I'm assuming she was clicking the beads on something.

Still, IMHO teacher should have gotten out a big rubber band or a ribbon and tied all the braids up on top of the kid's head. Make an impact, maybe people laugh, but no permanent harm done.

Same with that Ojibwe kid in Ontario where the teacher cut his hair because she thought he couldn't see, she should have just put his bangs into a ponytail and called it a day.

That said, when I was in school back in Japan, if a guy wouldn't cut his hair to regulation for long enough, the teacher would buzz cut them practically bald (shorter than the official allowed hair, which was merely short). Girls would get a bad bowl cut.

These days I'm pretty sure that's not allowed, though.

Rule Number One: You don't touch the kids.
Rule Number Two: You farking DO NOT touch the kids.

The teacher should not be working with children if she freaks out over a little girl playing with her hair. Sure it's a stressful job, sure teachers are underpaid and over worked, but damn it- have an herbal tea or something- calm the fark down!

If the child was distracting the other students, send her to the principal's office; you never touch the kids if you want to keep the job and stay out of jail.

That's not as bad as the time she caught a kid masturbating in the school library.

Send the kid to the office. It's not the teacher's job to remedy any discipline problems, the teacher is not trained for it, and there are huge potential liability issues. Possibly criminal ones, as here.

The school can discipline the teacher by cutting off her hands.

2009-12-14 02:32:11 PM
Since the district attorney isn't willing to do anything, the teacher still has a job and little Lamya is too young to have friends big enough to "have a chat" with the teacher outside of the school maybe a good civil attorney could get involved. Go after the teacher, school, school board and school administrators.

I think they'd do better by cutting off her paycheck.

Kids today are weak. When I was in first grade, I once got a math problem wrong and my teacher cut my face off with a machete and made a classmate wear it like a funny little hat. He then picked me up and tossed me into the Pacific Ocean...from Pennsylvania. As I hitchhiked back to PA, I really thought about what my priorities were. Once I got home and sewed my face back on, I began to study harder and harder. Years later, when I finally graduated from high school at the top of my class, that same teacher presented me with my diploma. He was so proud he kicked me in the balls and gave me two hard slaps to the mouth. You don't find many teachers like this around who care these days.

I totally see the teacher's perspective in this. This onetime in class this kid kept dicking with his wrist watch, so I cut off his hand with some bolt cutters.

Not particularl interesting and mildly-related brap autobiographical factoid #4,092

When brap was a shy and earnest young elementary schooler his teacher had to remove a sizable chunk of his hair as a classmate had blown a gigantic globule of chewed bubblebum into his scalp.

brap became quite visibly upset, which, apparently his classmates found HILARIOUS. It was on that day that I realized I was saddled with a feral mob of socially retarded vulgarians.

There's a certain college softball pitcher who is lucky to graduate with her braid. I swear that girl stroked that goddam braid the whole damn game like she was Pee Wee in the Playhouse.

Lamya Cammon is angry, confused, and scared by the incident last week in which the apparently frustrated teacher cut one of her braids off after she wouldn't stop playing with them in class.

Come on. She was confused and scared just trying to figure out how to spell her name.

Wussy kid, retarded teacher.

What was it supposed to achieve anyway? She has dozens more.

What is it with people leaving off the -ly on adverbs these days? I see it all the time in commercials, sports broadcasts...everywhere! And don't get me started on the good/well mixup. He hit that ball really well, not really good, you twuptarts!

Dear Mr. Funkenstein.. err.. Dr..

I regret to inform you that you owe me one keyboard. If you could please put disclaimers on your posts similar to this in the future, it would be much appreciated. Something along hte lines of "Hilarity to ensue, please put plastic on keyboards now:" would be good.

Thank you.

I love the grammar they are teaching now.

"I went to my desk and cried. And they was laughing," Cammon said. "She threw it away, and she said, 'Now what you gonna go home and say to your momma? '

There is no reason to make a first grader cry. A teacher is supposed to be building trust with these kids so they want to learn and are comfortable with asking for help.

I would have pulled her hair back or put it under a cap. If that didn't work, request she sit on her fidgety hand every time she made the noise. Or you know, get over it, it's one small noise in a classroom of kids shuffling around, sniffling, writing, etc.

I love how the teachers association totally excuses the whole thing by saying the teacher was just stressed by budget cuts - totally turning it political.

God, how are is it - Don't touch the kids!

I'm in teacher education now (and surprised to find it's not all a waste), and when I get licensed, I will NEVER join a union.
