"I have consistently defended poor people who only want a better life," O'Reilly said. "If you watch 'The Factor' you know my beef is with the federal government not controlling illegal immigration and with violent aliens who wreak havoc once they get here."

Thank you for proving his point.

/Still ticked McCoy hasn't gone after the government for stonewalling his case in the season opener.

Seriously. It's like how all those people in the South weren't actually racists, they just had a problem with the black men who raped white women.

Typical Baby O'Reilly. A character in a series produced by Dick Wolf calls O'Reilly and others a cancer...

So O'Reilly directly calls Wolf "a coward" and "a liar" and a "despicable human being."

It's OK when YOU do it, right O'Reilly?

...you are the biggest goddamn crybaby in all media...Glenn Beck mocks your immaturity.

But it's OK for you to do it though, huh bill?

I actually liked this episode. Especially the courtroom scene when the two audience members who had opposing views yelled viciously at each other - which culminated in a fight with a subsequent court clearing.

I thought that this scene showed that the liberal left could be just as violent and dangerous as the right-wingers...

i'm wondering how the right wing pundits are gonna survive 'till 2012. The stress has to be killing them, and when Obama gets re-elected, I think one of the big name right wing media pundits is going to blow out his heart valves.

If buy "blow out his heart valves" you mean "buy another yacht". You know these pricks, if Obama gets re-elected that's another 4 years of them being able to clamp together a few hundred pages of boogie-man stories and title it something like "LOL Librulz" and make millions. Granted, they can do that without a Democrat in office, but having someone like Obama there to encourage people to wet their pants certainly helps.

Ah, but of course! Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay embody the Olbermann/Maddow crime fighting duo, Ice-T is a caricature of the young, hip Obama and every single celebrity-guest appearance as a murderer-rapist represents Glenn Beck.

Have you even seen the The Left Wing? All Republicans (except the token sexy one who's on the "good" side) are portrayed as scheming, despicable, ruthless obstructionists who are against progress and exist only to oppose the "right" side of the law.

And during the fictional election season the Republican nominee was a bumbling fool who spoke only in catchphrases and was the governor of Florida.

That show was left-wing propaganda, period.

Many studies have shown that 'illegal aliens' are much more law abiding than the average US citizen, because something to a citizen that involves a night in jail and a fine instead means deportation.

I swear, if BO could provide all illegals with free tequila and disease transmitting blankets to prove his point, he would.

It's fine for shows to have political points of view, but not when they are on the free airwaves. The USA gave NBC, CBS, etc. the airwaves for free many years ago and so they have a responsibility to present equality in their programming. Cable OTOH can say whatever they want.

There must be an exception made for cable-only news shows otherwise we wouldn't have patriots like Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly fighting against this bias.

You might laugh, but gold really is a great investment. Taking the advice of Glenn Beck and praying on whether or not I should buy gold I found that all I could do was think about was buying gold. That meant that God was telling me to buy gold, which I did. And I've already made $250 on paper, but I'm holding on to my gold until things really go bad. When Obama takes away all our guns and martial law is declared, gold will be the only money people will accept and I'll be sitting pretty on my stash.

Like that other guy upthread, I know a few progressives who think the show's practically fascist.

My take -- the franchise doesn't have a viewpoint. They're ensemble shows, collections of regular characters who sometimes espouse political points of view. Some are very liberal (e.g. Munch), many are conservative (probably Cragin and McCoy, especially Thompson's character), some are apparently apolitical. They're all good guys.

That hardly sounds fictional.

But have faith - eventually you'll be able to spot the trolls from the people with honest opinions. The main problem is that on Fark most trolls never break character so it's impossible to tell the trolls from the crazies. But rest assured, if they always sound crazy to you, either either (a) completely crazy, or (b) trolling. Either way it's not worth talking to them.

When you do know, you'll have that moment, it will be beautiful. For you will know in your heart that another mind in this vast universe reached out, almost in secret searching for a kindred spirit. And in that moment of discovery those two, and more, will have truly understood each other, and the glory of absurdity's spectical, unknowningly.

A lot of people confuse flamebaiting and trolling, they are very different. One is like TAB with a few spoonfulls of sugar, and the other is, or can be, like a fine scotch. It may seem unpallatable, or even burn, but past that first blush of impression there is a world of subtle flavor to be enjoyed.

Bonus: I found some elements of trolling to be very helpful to getting good grades on english papers. Start out with some patently absurd idea, then collect enough to get you from a to that b with as much credibility as one might muster. It might not be good, but it's probably going to be something someone who reads crap all the time, year in year out, hasn't read yet. Sometimes, new is enough.

I can only imagine how awful the show would've been with a minority president. OH WAIT, they DID elect a minority president in the show - a charismatic, inspiring Latino man who picked as his VP an old, respected politician to make up for his lack of experience.

It's fine for shows to have political points of view, but not when they are on the free airwaves. The USA gave NBC, CBS, etc. the airwaves for free many years ago and so they have a responsibility to present equality in their programming. Cable OTOH can say whatever they want.

O'Reilly, Hannity and Beck are all douches, but to single them out on a fictional show is pretty much low rent. While I am sure there are other shows who have done the same, I would prefer fictional shows to cast a "character" that is easy to pin point who that person is, but leaving a little for the viewer to decide....

I personally do not care about a particular producer's idiology, but when you inject said idiology into your show, at least leave "plausible deniability" into the scenerio...

I've seen most of this L&O episode and I was struck by how much they equally dished-it-out to the far Left, as well. The episode seemed to be about how both extremes have their share of lunatics.

Of course, if O'Reilly acknowledged that, and addressed this in a "fair and balanced" manner, he wouldn't be the nutjob far right pundit that he is. So he responds to the criticism by immediately proving his critic's point through example.

This line is idiotic: "They're like a cancer spreading ignorance and hate. I mean, they have convinced folks that immigrants are the problem"

Since when have immigrants been a problem? Well, beyond that minority who thinks their daughter marrying someone of another religion is enough reason to kill her.

Illegal immigrants are a problem, yes, because they lower wages, can contribute to crime and, in large numbers, can demographically unbalance a region.

Legal immigrants, whether they are white, white or white are no problem.

Sunny was an artist. Whoopty just kind of got on my nerves.

But I wish fark would just ban all of the known trolls instead of allowing the thread hijacking that they do.

Never happen. Trolls increase traffic.

Yet another infotainment thread. Is it a day that ends with a "y" already?

When Law & Order A, B or C work up the stones to take a shot on Jon Stewart, I'll pay it some attention.

I left exceptions for their "token" Republicans who are favorable to the Democratic platform, so that covers Calley. Vinick might as well have BEEN a Democrat - he was a pro-Abortion atheist who was against Ethanol and was a Yale graduate.

Not Yale... not YALE?!?!?!

Oh heavens.

Swampthing in Korea: This line is idiotic: "They're like a cancer spreading ignorance and hate.

And with that, you're going on ignore forever. So long, asshole

I'm a straight chick and I think Rachel Maddow is adorable. That being said, how does her orientation in her personal life effect her ability to deliver the news, exactly? She's a friggin PHD. She's smart. What more do you want?

//Don't get the hate, they at least seem to fact check their stuff

I saw this episode of SVU. It's about a guy who killed the "anchor babies" of illegal immigrants. He claimed that he was brainwashed by a radio pundit who said they needed to be taken care of.

Hrmm... a blowhard pundit hints that someone needs killing, and one of his listeners goes and does it...

Why does that sound familiar in the context of Bill O'Reilly?

I don't really understand how this makes him a coward.
Should he show up at Fox and challenge him to a fist fight?

I knew she was smart, but she seemed more streetwise than I'd assume a Ph.D. would be. If MSNBC would play up her doctorate more, I think that make a good poster child for how you can be smart but still charismatic and normal.

I think there were two L&O episodes this week that got mixed up here. L&O SVU was about some nut killing anchor babies and claiming that some right wing pundit made him do it. The regular L&O Episode ripped several stories from the headlines by mixing up the Acorn scandal with the story about the census workers who stripped, wrote FED on his chestand killed himself.

Neither Episode placed the left in an unabiguosly good light. In SVU some ACLU-type lawyer ends up getting a gulty child killer of only to kill him himself in the end. In L&O the teabagger suspect turned out to be innocent and reasonable sympathtic while the Acorn type organization was very dirty and full of coruption, extortion, adultery and murder.

Lol, I'm not sure whether that is a typo or a joke, but either way. . . awesome.

The current illegal immigration craze is funny to me. There has never been a time in American history where such a craze was no occurring. At some point you would think people would learn from history. I guess not.

No.

The show had characters from both parties who represented both the basest of our natures and the best of them.

John Goodman stands out as the House Speaker who assumed the President's office after his daughter was kidnapped (the Vice President had resigned in the middle of a scandal, remember?).

Goodman portrayed a tough-as-nails conservative and was absolutely heroic in the part, without becoming mawkish.

Other characters ran across the political spectrum, such as the dueling justices representing both the liberal and conservative points of view (in the episode that comes to mind, both characters were nominated for the job ... and each was respectful of the other).

And, in the final season, Alan Alda played a conservative Republican who ran for President and lost narrowly. His character kept to an honest course that combined the attributes of both the statesman and the average person who didn't trust Washington power-politics.

Just a few examples.
