3d epic with awesome old school-ness? I do very much hope so. Just keep Lucas, Bolle, and Bay away from this one and maybe it'll be entertaining. Hell, give it to Cameron.

But without Erin Grey.....meh.

Frank Miller is over rated. 300 was meh, while pretty it just didn't get my zinger goin. And Sin City was also meh. It was forgettable. Obviously since I haven't thought about it before now since I last saw it three years ago.

Sigh. I guess I should begin my countdown to doomsday.

Having never seen Buck Rogers, is this something to get excited about? I had always thought that Buck Rogers was supposed to be unbelievably tacky sci-fi.

Also:

Frank Miller shouldn't be allowed to write dialog. That's all.

All Star Batman is awesome. I'm not sure it's intentional, but it seems like what Miller is doing is intentionally farking with Batman fans, and it's farking hilarious. Batman farking Black Canary and insisting they keep their masks on, the whole "Goddamn Batman!" thing, Joker's "They call my the Joker but I'm not very funny," Batman painting himself yellow just to be a dick to the Green Lantern. . .

It's major "artist having contempt for his audience" stuff, and that almost always makes something good IMO.

/300 is the only thing I've read of his that I didn't like, the rest is either seriously good (Sin City, Dark Knight Returns) or so incredibly insanely ridiculous that it is awesome (All Star Batman, his Robocop script. . .)

I agree with you on All-Star Batman. Of course, it helps that I am comfortably secure in that my platonic ideal of Batman has been commited to screen, in Batman:The Animated Series. Therefore, reading allstar is like reading a better drawn version of Marvel's old "What the..." series. Superman punching Wonder Woman in the back of the head? Check. Wonder Woman treating men as walking sperm donors? Check. Having created an iconic form of Batman, I think Miller has earned the right to do this. And anyway, it's not like it's in "normal continuity."

That was not the pic of Erin Grey I came looking for. Leaving disappointed.

Frank Miller has become a cliché of himself. I cannot understand how anyone over 15 identifies with him. That's true for most comic book writing, but there was a time (Give Me Liberty) when he had something to say. Then again, it's been nearly 20 years since I read that.

I demand that any remake includes an updated version of the original intro. (new window)

Instead of Erin Grey they get Sasha Grey to play Wilma Dearing.

I don't buy that Miller has gone meta. I think it's just bad. Major timeline screwups (Fifteen hours earlier ...), Batman acting like an impudent child ... sounds like he's just throwing anything up on the board and doesn't really care anymore

This.
Anyone liking Frank Miller hasn't read enough OTHER comics in my opinion.
Dark Knight was his best work. Dark Knight 2 was so absolutely horrible I threw the collected volume away and I still have issues of Wild Dog and the 3 issue A-Team series..

2009-12-12 03:33:47 PM
The Spirit is just horrible. Should have made Sin City 2 instead.

who's gonna play Tweekie?

problem is, i can buy Frank lashing out at the Batman fans, but The Spirit? there was no real reason to go that direction with the material, removing the meta argument, and leaving us only with the fact that he's lost his goddamn mind.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of "Robocop Vs Terminator". I know it sounds like Just Another Cheeseball Crossover, but it's really good.

The only problem with that is the photo is of Galaxina who was played by Dorothy Stratten (sp?). She has been dead since 1980. She was PMOY and this was her first role. I saw it on Cinemax when I was in middle school. It was a really bad sci-fi movie but it was pretty funny. It was one of the first movies I ordered from Netflix.

/hopes Buck Rodgers isn't remade like Flash Gordon was on Sci-Fi.

Wow, I actually saw that in Times Square when it first came out. Takes me back... then I hear those hideous lyrics and insist on returning to the present.

Miller has only been able to do misogynistic hard boiled since the 80's. It's only gotten worse as he got older, especially after finally putting out Sin City which fit his idiom.

Now the guy's really a joke.

I enjoy a lot of his stuff but he's just way to caught up in following his voice over previously established actions, mores and morals of characters.

/And I'm the goddamn Batman!

Yeah... and she's so incredibly deep. Two minutes and 4 seconds of video and the majority of it is just her standing there, doing NOTHING.

So, while Sasha may be MADE for porn (and probably soap operas), she is in no way made for actual acting.... so no, your idea is hereby vetoed.

Unless it's "Fark Rodgers In The 69th Position Of The Century."
