The way our justice (HA!) system is, she'll be lucky to even get to trial... or maybe I should RTFA first?

I guess if you hit 100, why not kill people who piss you off? If they lock you up for life, it IS about 2 weeks. And death penalty cases can last for years on appeal.

Maybe the judge should REALLY get tough and give her 15 years.
Life sounds like a somewhat light sentence, in this case.

Suit against the nursing home ought to be epic. Dead woman's family asked that she be moved due to threats etc. Nursing home says no. Lady is dead. Profit.

Is it really necessary to charge a dementia-addled 98-year-old with murder? I agree that the nursing home had better "lawyer up" !

I am not sure why but this article makes me laugh. I think it has to do with the way my now late grandma felt about her room mate.

BTW
The nursing home should go ahead and try to make a settlement now for the dead womans family before they sue and shut the place down. Families who using nursing homes get real sue happy when their loved one dies.

/From experience in the regards to the nursing home lawsuit. My family got real sue happy when my great grandfather and my grandparents didn't get proper care to keep them in good health

I never understood what it is about Americans and sending their parents into a nursing home. In other cultures you just have the parents live you with you and you deal with their craziness. Its like life coming full circle, they give birth to you and they deal with your craziness, they get old and you deal with them? Why are Americans so damn selfish?

Nancy Grace will be outraged that the woman doesn't get the death penalty. She will then berate the family of an unrelated party and drive them to suicide.

Meanwhile, Fox News will blame Obama, blacks, Muslims, and people who graduated from college.

Should be a FOLLOW-UP tag, btw. (I'm from here, I know we've talked about it before.)

Given the dementia, how is this woman not gonna get off on an insanity plea and put in a solo room in Bridgewater?

\btw, if I was running that home... full refund x 1.25% at least. They're farked either way.
\\uncle just got put back in a nursing home, so i'm not too cool with this whole thing in the first place

Wish I could remember what movie/tv show I was watching, but there were two women in a hospital/nursing home and one wouldn't shut up, so the other choked her to death by forcing a hot dog down her throat.

Who's going to watch them at home? Usually all the able-bodied adults in most American households have jobs but still can't afford full-time, at-home nursing care. These other cultures you speak of probably have universal health care and lower worker productivity that allows people to be home more.

Also, Americans are prudes obsessed with fears that any form of intimacy can be misconstrued, and as parents lose the ability to manage their own hygiene, the idea of seeing them naked and having to touch them that intimately can be a major hang-up. The parent may not want their child to see them that way either. Outsourcing the physical aspects of care to professionals reduces this.

My father died at home as was his wish, but it was from terminal cancer, and he declined chemotherapy, so the period he was incapacitated was weeks, not years. I took a leave from my job in another state so I could be there and help Mom care for him, and we had a part-time hospice nurse come in a couple times a day. Economically and emotionally, I don't think this could have been sustained if it was a long-term situation.

Green Arrow: Don't listen to this guy. Everything's conspiracies with him.
The Question: Not conspiracies. Conspiracy. Singular.

The Question: Reaching back to ancient Egypt, there's been a single cabal of powerful individuals directing the course of human history. But the common man prefers to believe they don't exist -- which aids their success.
Supergirl: Global warming, military upheavals in the third world, actors elected to public office....
Green Arrow: The spread of coffee bars, germs outpacing anti-biotics, and boy bands? Come on. Who would gain from all this?
The Question: Who indeed?
