Two Sarasota County high school kids had to be hospitalized this week after smoking a popular mix of herbs sold under the name K2. Reportedly the herbs in K2 are laced with chemicals designed to mimic the effects of marijuana.

How about just smoking some weed, it would be easier and more fun.

I am willing to bet if kids smoked that first, they would probably never end up smoking pot. S.D. is some messed up shiat. Just about 5 whole minutes of .... whatever it is. I got really bad hot flashes from it though, and needed to drink like a gallon of water to keep up with my uncontrollable sweating. That was after I "melted" through the couch for a few minutes.

* Safer than all the currently legal recreational drugs
* Safer than many over the counter medications
* Safer than most prescription drugs
* Safer than every other similarly scheduled controlled substance
* Safer than pretty much everything else that kids do to try to get high

Not talking about that at all. I'm talking about how it affects the ability to make good judgement calls. Like alcohol it impairs your ability to make decisions, i.e. it makes you do stupid things. Taken in large quantities over a length of time it will affect your overall personality. I'll confess this is all anecdotal, but I've seen it happen many times.
The funniest part about this is that I'm for legalizing it. I believe it's much less dangerous than alcohol. Personally I don't smoke the stuff (anymore), makes you stupid.

Instead of making the blanket statement "it's harmless", discuss the real affects, i.e. tear down the monster it's been made out to be so that people can make their own decisions on using it, or not, based on fact not fiction.

The vast majority of folks can drive by a liquor store and not hit the brakes and dig for change. It is the small percent that we allow to conrol legislation instead of attacking the real issue of mental health.

I will also make sure to explain to my kids that getting lightheaded from sucking a car tail pipe is bad for them, and sniffing car battery acid is a no-go as well.

And by mental health, I mean not having invisible friends.

Although subby can't read, I will shamefully admit to smoking an actual stick of incense wrapped in note paper when I was 15.

Sure, there's a whole other host of crap smoking will do to you, like emphysema (to start with) and I personally don't like the smell (but I'm ok with other people smoking cigs or pot).

Comparing Pot to Alcohol is just plain silly. If you've never tried both, than you don't know what you're talking about, and if you have, then you forgot the differences.
Hm, the comparison is that both have an affect on you. They change how you react and think about things. That's all. Not the actual effects it does. For the record I've done both in large quantities over a period of several years.

I smoke pot every day. Almost all day. Not copious amounts, because a little dab will do you.
I don't drink. I HATE the feeling of being drunk. It's totally different than being high on weed, or even stoned to the b'jesus belt.
That's cool. I don't like the way it makes me feel anymore, I just can't function feeling dizzy and shiat.

And as for National legalization for recreational use...
it's going to get regulated. It's going to get standardized. There will be a cap on potency.
It's going to push all the growers who are medically licensed right now, who are doing it their way, back underground because it will be regulated to death.

Sure, it will be good for taxes.. and "John Doe" will finally be able to do some guilt free smoking, and perhaps the stigma about it will finally go away...
but its not necessarily a "good" thing.
Perhaps, but is there no good that will come of it? I have to think there will be, like getting rid of violent dealers (and don't say that is a myth, they're out there).
