Insta green?

Me and a friend smoked catnip on a dare one time. We had the real stuff, but figured we'd try it just for the hell of it.

I ended up chasing a ball of yarn for a few hours, but otherwise there were no ill side effects.

Some kids will find a way to smoke anything green. Heck this "Insta green" headline will probably get printed, shredded and rolled. Hope their head ache was worth it.

Or is it that they're sick because they thought the fake pot was smoking the incense?

This is what happens as a result of the War on Drugs. Kids do way worse stuff than pot, which is harmless in and of itself, in an effort to get high. If they would have been educated about drugs and healthy drug consumption, doubtful this would have happened.

Two Sarasota County high school kids had to be hospitalized this week after smoking a popular mix of herbs sold under the name K2. Reportedly the herbs in K2 are laced with chemicals designed to mimic the effects of marijuana.

How about just smoking some weed, it would be easier and more fun.

I am willing to bet if kids smoked that first, they would probably never end up smoking pot. S.D. is some messed up shiat. Just about 5 whole minutes of .... whatever it is. I got really bad hot flashes from it though, and needed to drink like a gallon of water to keep up with my uncontrollable sweating. That was after I "melted" through the couch for a few minutes.

K2 is the second-highest mountain on Earth (after Mount Everest). With a peak elevation of 8,611 metres (28,251 ft), K2 is part of the Karakoram range, and is located on the border between the Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Xinjiang, China and Gilgit, in Gilgit-Baltistan of Pakistan.

Not talking about that at all. I'm talking about how it affects the ability to make good judgement calls. Like alcohol it impairs your ability to make decisions, i.e. it makes you do stupid things. Taken in large quantities over a length of time it will affect your overall personality. I'll confess this is all anecdotal, but I've seen it happen many times.
The funniest part about this is that I'm for legalizing it. I believe it's much less dangerous than alcohol. Personally I don't smoke the stuff (anymore), makes you stupid.

I could probably agree to all of these statements. But it's still not harmless and like all substances that you smoke, it will eventually cause cancer.
What I'm arguing here is that clearing the air (ahem) on pot will work in the recreational users favor. Instead of making the blanket statement "it's harmless", discuss the real affects, i.e. tear down the monster it's been made out to be so that people can make their own decisions on using it, or not, based on fact not fiction.

For those asking (last one is a 'maybe'):

Long-term marijuana abuse can lead to addiction; that is, compulsive drug seeking and abuse despite its known harmful effects upon social functioning in the context of family, school, work, and recreational activities. Long-term marijuana abusers trying to quit report irritability, sleeplessness, decreased appetite, anxiety, and drug craving, all of which make it difficult to quit. These withdrawal symptoms begin within about 1 day following abstinence, peak at 2-3 days, and subside within 1 or 2 weeks following drug cessation.5

A number of studies have shown an association between chronic marijuana use and increased rates of anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and schizophrenia. Some of these studies have shown age at first use to be a factor, where early use is a marker of vulnerability to later problems. However, at this time, it is not clear whether marijuana use causes mental problems, exacerbates them, or is used in attempt to self-medicate symptoms already in existence. Chronic marijuana use, especially in a very young person, may also be a marker of risk for mental illnesses, including addiction, stemming from genetic or environmental vulnerabilities, such as early exposure to stress or violence. At the present time, the strongest evidence links marijuana use and schizophrenia and/or related disorders.6 High doses of marijuana can produce an acute psychotic reaction; in addition, use of the drug may trigger the onset or relapse of schizophrenia in vulnerable individuals.

Marijuana increases heart rate by 20-100 percent shortly after smoking; this effect can last up to 3 hours. In one study, it was estimated that marijuana users have a 4.8-fold increase in the risk of heart attack in the first hour after smoking the drug

Research clearly demonstrates that marijuana has the potential to cause problems in daily life or make a person's existing problems worse.

Numerous studies have shown marijuana smoke to contain carcinogens and to be an irritant to the lungs. In fact, marijuana smoke contains 50-70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than does tobacco smoke. Marijuana users usually inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer than tobacco smokers do, which further increase the lungs' exposure to carcinogenic smoke. Marijuana smokers show dysregulated growth of epithelial cells in their lung tissue, which could lead to cancer;8 however, a recent case-controlled study found no positive associations between marijuana use and lung, upper respiratory, or upper digestive tract cancers.9 Thus, the link between marijuana smoking and these cancers remains unsubstantiated at this time.

So these make a real good mix with kids already going through emotional growth years, setting 'em up for a life time of fun.

Not everyone who smokes gets cancer. The ONLY person I know who had cancer from smoking cigs was a guy who smoke more than a pack a day, all his life. ( I know that's not a standard, I'm just giving my experience)

It's not like you share a joint with someone, and you've got the cancer now.

Comparing Pot to Alcohol is just plain silly. If you've never tried both, than you don't know what you're talking about, and if you have, then you forgot the differences.

I smoke pot every day. Almost all day. Not copious amounts, because a little dab will do you.
I don't drink. I HATE the feeling of being drunk. It's totally different than being high on weed, or even stoned to the b'jesus belt.

And as for National legalization for recreational use...
it's going to get regulated. It's going to get standardized. There will be a cap on potency.
It's going to push all the growers who are medically licensed right now, who are doing it their way, back underground because it will be regulated to death.

Sure, it will be good for taxes.. and "John Doe" will finally be able to do some guilt free smoking, and perhaps the stigma about it will finally go away...

sonofslacker: For those asking (last one is a 'maybe'):

Long-term marijuana abuse can lead to addiction; 2 months of not smoking because I'm visiting family in Ohio. No ill effects from not smoking. that is, compulsive drug seeking and abuse despite its known harmful effects upon social functioning in the context of family, school, work, and recreational activities. I own my own business, I'm a social butterfly (organizing parties) a semi prof photographer who is published. Long-term marijuana abusers trying to quit report irritability, sleeplessness, decreased appetite, anxiety, and drug craving, all of which make it difficult to quit. Again, 2 months by choice since it's illegal in Ohio, and no ill effects. Yeah, the munchies are gone. That's about it.

Not so much for me. Some of these studies have shown age at first use to be a factor, where early use is a marker of vulnerability to later problems. However, at this time, it is not clear whether marijuana use causes mental problems, exacerbates them, or is used in attempt to self-medicate symptoms already in existence. I have adult ADD, take no other drugs for it, and pot does help me sleep at night.

Sure, there's a whole other host of crap smoking will do to you, like emphysema (to start with) and I personally don't like the smell (but I'm ok with other people smoking cigs or pot).

It's not like you share a joint with someone, and you've got the cancer now.
Whew, I was worried about this as I just shared a joint last night :-)

Comparing Pot to Alcohol is just plain silly. If you've never tried both, than you don't know what you're talking about, and if you have, then you forgot the differences.
Hm, the comparison is that both have an affect on you. They change how you react and think about things. That's all. Not the actual effects it does. For the record I've done both in large quantities over a period of several years.

I smoke pot every day. Almost all day. Not copious amounts, because a little dab will do you.
