2003-03-30 04:03:55 AM
OK, phase 3 is profit, but what is phase 2?

by the way, Brits have no right to criticize our justice system ever again. 217... sheesh

"Underpants gnome"

Stupid tagline. Interesting article, very funny. Can't win 'em all all the time.

"217 previous offences"

Looks like GB needs a ten-strikes rule or something, because this nut shouldn't have been on the street in the first place. At least he wasn't violent towards other people.

"Cardiff Crown Court heard earlier how, dressed only in a pair of underpants,"

So he was wearing two sets of underpants?

The video had me laughing. Especially when the guy walks by on the sidewalk, and acts as if people often go about with shovels in their underwear at night.

Nothing to see here, move along!
2003-03-30 05:14:25 AM
I hate RealPlayer. It won't let you play if you don't have a soundcard!
2003-03-30 08:09:36 AM
He had me at phase one.
2003-03-30 08:11:21 AM
Phase 1: smash
Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: get flattened out like a pancake in your tighties and cry like a biitch on the sidewalk.

He's escaped!
2003-03-30 08:34:57 AM
They called the shovel a "spade". How queer is that?
2003-03-30 08:38:45 AM
Meh! Amateur!

Everyone knows you MUST wear a thong when doing such mayhem.
2003-03-30 08:40:07 AM
Actually, SBrooks1, they called a spade a spade.

"Roxberry has a criminal record of 217 previous offences"

Tony Martin of the same country, with no criminal record, is in prison for defending his home against an intruder yet this guy's walking around free??

Someone, anyone want to tell me what the labor party's doing in office over there besides kissing Bush's rear and farking up the entire country?
2003-03-30 08:50:51 AM
Dave_te85 - absolutely sod all
2003-03-30 08:57:28 AM

2003-03-30 08:58:42 AM
hahaha! LOL! I detect a comedy award going to this complete fruitcake!

maybe he'd have done more damage if his underpants had just been a little tighter...!
2003-03-30 09:00:37 AM
how very true Mavispoo. (heh I'm a poet and didn't know it - sheesh) it's sad when the only effective Opposition to the Government is from within their own party.

Best line from that episode; "HOLY SHIAT WE KILLED YOUR FRIEND!" "Oh my God, you killed Kenny." "You bastards. Now get on with it." "I mean, we squished him like a bug!"
2003-03-30 09:03:56 AM
Yes Reeper, then it becomes a sport!
2003-03-30 09:20:11 AM

Yummy tum yummy tum tay!

Since somebody brought up Tony Martin as a comparison...

Mr. Martin is serving 5 years for Manslaughter, his original murder conviction (with mandatory life sentence) was reduced on appeal, he is likely to be released on licence in July.

AFAIK (IANAL) English and Welsh law (Scots have their own legal system) states that you may apply the defence of 'reasonable force' if you can show that your actions were taken to prevent damage to 'life or property'.

Various evidence put forward in Mr. Martin's trial indicated that he had shot his victims (there were two, one died) in the back with an (illegally held) shotgun, as they were leaving his property after realising that he was there.

The jury at his first trial decided that this was not 'reasonable force' under the circumstances. If they had confronted him or been armed then he would probably have not been convicted. Similarly, if he'd got into a fist fight with them and ended up killing one of them (easier than you would think), it would probably have been viewed as the unfortunate consequence of using 'reasonable force'.

If you want to see an example of British justice failing, as opposed to working quite well in the case of Mr. Martin, then try Googling for 'Satpal Ram', still fighting his conviction after 15 years.

Also, to try and get back on-topic, yes this Welsh nutter does have 217 previous convictions, I suggest (I've not seen his record) that he has not had 217 separate court appearances, each resulting in a separate sentence. Rather, that when he has been caught, it's been for a large number of similar offences. I would guess that given his recent exploits Drunk & Disorderly, Drunk & Incapable, Disturbing the Peace, etc probably explains a lot of them, and we don't often lock people up for that over here. We normally fine them and then lock them up for being unable to pay the fine because they're drunk, homeless, mentally ill or whatever.
2003-03-30 10:56:20 AM
I'm not wearing any underpants.
2003-03-30 11:03:13 AM
Is he Welsh or French?
2003-03-30 11:38:56 AM
That guy that walked past him must have thought it was a weekly parade. Cardiff is a nice place though. I respect this man capable of walking in pants in Cardiff in February. It must have been an acorn!
2003-03-30 11:39:49 AM
This clearly is Bush's fault.
2003-03-30 11:48:44 AM
We normally fine them and then lock them up for being unable to pay the fine because they're drunk, homeless, mentally ill or whatever.

Well, that just makes it all right then, doesn't it.
2003-03-30 11:58:26 AM
Gnome? What gnome?

[image from too old to be available]

Oh, that gnome.

Gnome man liked to dress up.
2003-03-30 12:09:06 PM
I wonder if this guy could eat fifty hard boiled eggs?
2003-03-30 12:32:15 PM
Wasn't that a mission in GTA:Vice City? Maybe now his mansion makes $5000 a day!
2003-03-30 12:46:16 PM
For those to lazy to google: Satpal Ram & Tony Martin.
2003-03-30 12:59:23 PM
We normally fine them and then lock them up for being unable to pay the fine because they're drunk, homeless, mentally ill or whatever.

Well, that just makes it all right then, doesn't it?

No, it doesn't. That was the point I was trying to get across, but evidentially I was rather too subtle.
2003-03-30 01:19:42 PM

Step 1:Collect Underpants
Step 2: ...

2003-03-30 02:56:13 PM
Um...considering it is "phase" and not "step", you also didn't post it right. ;)

[In the gnome's cave]
Gnome 1: This is where all our work is done.
Kyle: So what are you gonna do with all these underpants you steal?
Gnome 1: Collecting underpants is just phase one. Phase one: collect underpants.
Kyle: So what's phase two?
Gnome 1: Hey, what's phase two?!
Gnome 2: Phase one: we collect underpants.
Gnome 1: Ya, ya, ya. But what about phase two?
Gnome 2: Well, phase three is profit. Get it?
Stan: I don't get it.
Gnome 2: (Goes over to a chart on the wall) You see, Phase one: collect underpants, phase two-
Gnome 2: Phase three: profit.
Cartman: Oh I get it.
Stan: No you don't.
Kyle: Do you guys know anything about corporations?
Gnome 2: You bet we do.
Gnome 1: Us gnomes are geniuses at corporations.
