Rev. Skarekroe: I suspect it's either another cartoon movie or else Mr. Dolby is just confused.

If it's animated, we'd better not get Truman Capote the Hutt again.

But it would be great to see Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy adapted to the big screen.

That doesn't mean it's a new trilogy. Lucas loves making those animated crapfests that add new toys characters to the universe.

On the first point: exactly. It's going to be another animated movie for sure. They're dirt cheap to make, they don't really interfere with the canon of the 'real' movies, and they give Lucas total creative control without any real criticism, since no one cares about them anyway.

On the second point: the 'Truman Capote the Hutt' made me chuckle.

On the third point: no way in hell does Lucas ever make an SW storyline that he himself didn't write. Cool or not, it's just not going to happen.

Also, it would be uber-awkward to do a followup to the original trilogy without Hamil, Ford and Fisher, but with the marginal exception of Ford, none of them are even remotely capable (or willing, probably) to reprise their former parts. At least not without the films being even more cringingly laughable than the Holiday Special.

Oh, I wholly agree with you. The only chance we'd have of seeing any of the original actors back in their roles (aside form the Droids and the Wookie, of course) would be a movie set in the post New Jedi Order period.

Where they all have kids. And as a fan who owns all the novels, let me tell you, it's been a downward spiral ever since The Dark Nest Trilogy. I could handle the Vong invasion, but everything since has been one big old ass-fest. I haven't even finished the latest "Fate of the Jedi" book, "Abyss," and I've been reading it since...what, September? August? It's that bad, and it's written by Troy Denning, who aside from The Dark Nest Trilogy, wrote some great stuff.

It's a franchise that survives because of idiots like me, and also kids who are seeing The Clone Wars animated series.
It's become too huge for its own good.

Just ask Karen Traviss. (new window)

/what's sad is Lucas wanted the Hutt to sound like Capote

Also, Dolby corrected himself before the link even got greenlit:

"A slight correction about the Lucas thing that my friend Paul Sebastien pointed out to me: he's actually not aware of any movie plans, and was just talking about the live action TV show that George had talked about in an interview with an Australian TV station a while back. Paul is only working on the games side, and I know from past experience that he's very professional and discrete, and would never leak confidential secrets, even to a close friend.

Sorry to throw a bucket of water on it, Star Wars fans: I should have chosen my words more carefully given the ultra-sensitivity of your blogosphere!"

No, he's right. Think about it; Luuke Skywalker. I recall Toyfare did a Twisted Toyfare Theatre that went to the darkest reaches of the expanded universe. "So, you're Vader's kid, right? Luke." "No, Luuke." "Yeah, Luke." Then there was something about how the only way to tell the clone and the real one apart was an extra vowel; I'm looking at the strip now. It's oddly accurate.
That aside, Zahn does have his little textual trademarks as well. Opening scene for all his books: a star destroyer/other imperial ship.
It would be an interesting animated film.
Look at how it's worked for the DC Universe.
And how it hasn't worked for the Marvel Universe.

Just as long as we don't get Han & Leia's kids. Goddamn, how I hated the arc Jacen "Darth Caedus" Solo took (and the name Darth Caedus is proof why fans should not be allowed to vote on anything).

Dolby's overrated.

Seriously. One hit, and that's kinda meh after hearing it more than five times. Never thought I could find electronic music boring; saw him live ages ago and couldn't believe how uninteresting his stuff was.

Before everyone starts screaming how much of a groundbreaker he was/is, there are tons more artists out there who did more before his time, and kept the music interesting.

...although i don't see much chance of a reprisal of previous roles, i would love to see mark hamill reprise luke skywalker if they were to go into the emperor's right hand or the dark empire storylines...it would be great to see hamill turn the dark side on through the skywalker character...

...then again, i'm also in favor of a live-action force unleashed movie...

I don't want to sound like a dick but the 2nd dumbest thing said in every SW thread is making a movie out of Zahn's first trilogy. Did you read it? Luuke and dogs that eat the force and hot chocolate with Lando and a huge number of dumb-ass things. We look back with with rose-colored glasses, it was the first SW thing released in about a decade, it seemed cool because we had nothing else. Thrawn was needlessly stupid. the empire has always been written as hugely xenophobic, if Thrawn had something special about him besides being a great tactician, you know something alien and unique, then fine make him an alien. To make him an alien with benefits that would make the Empire overlook their xenophobic tendencies would make sense.

The dumbest thing said in these threads, but luckily not today, is some jerk-off regurgitating Joseph Campbell's wiki page like they're some doctoral student and the first to ever discover the guy's work.

Also, on point to TFA, the dude's friend is working for Lucasfilm doing stuff for movies, video games, and tv shows. Did you see any movies this year? Lucasfilm had their hands in most of them through ILM, LF animation, skywalker sound, and the like.

I read the trilogy again earlier this year. It's the lone rose growing in the EU desert. I'm not proud of having read every goddamned thing Bantam and Del Rey produced, but it was a slow downward spiral thereafter. At least Zahn's trilogy wasn't as bad as the X-Wing series.

If something Star Wars related comes out that I'm interested in I'll pirate it if I really need to see it. But between the thorough and savage raping he gave Indiana Jones (monkeys with farking pompadours? DO NOT. What has been seen cannot be unseen!

It was literally one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my entire life. None of it made any sense (really? an entire platoon or two of Russian soldiers traipsing about with impugnity on American soil in our COMPLETELY unguarded and unstaffed secret military installations during teh height of the Cold War? Complete with rocket and thermonuclear bomb tests that are not being babysat by a single researcher or even intern? Really, George? REALLY you twatwaffle?), they beat you over the head with every movie cliche in the book, the MacGuffin was the most BS POS MacGuffin in history (no matter what the situation the MacGuffin ALWAYS had a mysterious power to advance the plot and get them out of their jam. ALWAYS.), it was ham-handed in every possible way, there were superfluous shots that were just put in there to just cram in that one more SFX shot (it's Indiana Jones, not farking Star Wars!)... Fark... the complaints just go on and on and on...

As bad as I'm describing - it was worse. Much worse. You'll curse yourself for not heeding my advice if you do break down and see it.

And please, please just make sure to DL it, and not to purchase or rent it if you really MUST scar yourself like that. But just remember... you cannot unsee what has been seen!

And it's the last time George has let that happen. The one film in the Star Wars lexicon that he wasn't the primary writer or the director and it's the film that most (not all) say is the best. From that point on he's been the writer. And after the 3 prequels who really thinks any new movies would be anything above mediocre? And mediocre is giving him too much credit, in my opinion.

/Indiana Jones and the magnetic gunpowder/dancing qroundsquirrle/panzy Tarzan son ripoff movie is another fine fine Lucas example of not knowing how to write characters or plots that are believable.
