If the world gets to a true "anarchy" state where it is just a battle to stay alive... WTF am I going to do with a bunch of gold bars, other than they are kinda heavy and I might be able to hit someone in the head with them?

Gold has no inherent value vs. a currency or anything else, unless someone is willing to give you something or perform a service for it. The only thing with real value in a truly anarchist state of society is life itself.

If you just are worried about the US currency being greatly devalued vs. other currencies, you should probably buy those other currencies. That (seems) to be as good of a plan as buying a precious metal.

You're not missing anything. Gold has no inherent value. People just rely on it because its valued across all cultures and can't really be destroyed very easily. But you really believed anarchy was coming, you'd probably want to stock up on weapons if you wanted to hold on to real value.

I don't believe this because it's far easier to believe that a man with a fractured childhood, a history of drug abuse, and a personality fit for a morning zoo radio show has serious mental problems than that he is pulling the greatest media hoax of all time.

Who the fark didn't know Beck was a spokesman for a gold trading firm? He does their damned commercials! OK, if he was advising buying it on his show without disclosing that fact, it is a conflict of interest, but if you watch/listen to him, you've heard the commercial anyway already.

Beck's an overly dramatic nut, and his schtick completely undermines his credibility for any time when he comes up with something that is real. He's news related entertainment, nothing more- just like pretty much every other news show nowadays.

I was just in an argument with 4 Beck Heads a few days ago and they kept harping on gold. Now I know why now, I thought they were just ragging on the Jews again.
