It's not that complicated Loadedevolver. I think you're jumping to a few conclusions, though. I'm not calling for flat out carpet bombing here. What I'm saying is bring the troops together and clean it out the old-fashioned way.
Step by step. You don't move on until what's behind you is secure.

The Iraqis know we're trying to painstakingly avoid civilian casualties. They're using it against us and it's hurting our troops. Why do you think they're dressing up as civilians now? They know we we're trying to capture rather than kill. Why do think they're coming like they're going to surrender and opening fire? It just gives them another tool to use against us.

The only way the hard core ones are going to surrender is if they fear us more than they fear their commanders or Saddam. I would be shipping in pigs by the hundreds and spreading the rumor that we're filling hollow point rounds with pork.

2003-03-29 02:49:44 AM
I set my guess at that cause the troops that don't want to die fighting have shown that they'll surrender, and in Vietnam they could shoot at just about anything that didn't speak english. It should be interesting :)

2003-03-29 02:50:16 AM
Mark this down: I am wrong. There is a seersucker rocket. Unfortunately, they could limit the seersucker to the fashion realm, or "they couldn't keep their seersucker in their pants(-suits)". Proof: http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/missile/row/c-201.htm .

But you say the one that hit Kuwait WAS a silkworm?

I heard that only IRAN had silkworms(besides China)!

Very curious...

2003-03-29 02:50:33 AM
heard this somewhere:

Any military plan that depends upon your enemy cooperating with you is a BAD PLAN.

...and here i thought the iraqi army was just supposed to welcome their liberators! what do you mean, they're shooting back?

2003-03-29 02:54:50 AM
Don't know the credibility of the report, but Bush may have an opponent in the Republican party. This war will certainly help motivate a young candidate.

2003-03-29 02:55:04 AM
Yeah whats up with the silkworm...In a related news I guess the Patriots aren't capable of detecting them...No Air Raid warning.

2003-03-29 02:55:31 AM
I think it's just really hard to figure out exactly what type of missile is being fired at you. They're all long tubes with fins that explode...tough to piece together the evidence during wartime.

2003-03-29 02:59:38 AM
Who care, its not like we are actually going to lose

2003-03-29 02:59:50 AM
And patriot missile batteries don't exactly have the greatest record in the world...

2003-03-29 03:00:27 AM
All I see is a bunch of arm-chair generals, the majority of whom haven't seen one second of combat.

You all need a nice big cup of STFU.

What do you 'tards think, that the "War Plan" is a scripted, fully outlined document of what's going to happen? Morons.

No plan survives first contact with the enemy. Which is probably about where they had their original plan end. Now it's time to regroup, dig in, resupply, and then push forward some more. We'll be doing the same thing in a few days, on the outskirts of Baghdad.

Perfect timing, if you ask me -- gives the northern front time to solidify, and then begin its' push south when the rest push north, squeezing Iraqi troops in the middle. The impact on their morale is going to be staggering, when they have the feeling of being pressed from two sides. Also allows H2 and H3 to resupply and refit, to push from the west.

HOOAH!

2003-03-29 03:02:30 AM
Ok Dhoom how do we know that we have won?

2003-03-29 03:03:28 AM
STOKE-

My grand point is this: Why are people behaving as if it was a surpise that the Iraqi people would avoid direct military confrontation? Why in any god's name would they not? They know as well as we should that they could never win in any conventional war. They will win by attrition, just like the NVA. It is practically written in stone. Our president has allowed himself to be manuevered into this by his father's friends, who have micromanaged this obviously ploy for economic superiority for a few "old boys" who are bible-thumping racists who all think like Trent Lott. They have blown off the advice of everyone else in the world, and are living in a dream world, whose bubble will be burst in this disaster in the Middle East. Because these guys are so arrogant, they have made themselves high-profile and now have written a check in the blood of Americans that their lying asses can't cash. They have made it easy for the world to hate America, and Americans. They have comprimised our national security for personal gain. They are traitors. The Iraqis have nothing to do with this. Got it? If not now, you never will.

2003-03-29 03:03:42 AM
Dhoom, it's war. Who the hell says "hooah!" to a WAR?

2003-03-29 03:04:16 AM
Nothing personal, Farker. Just the issues.

2003-03-29 03:05:28 AM
M00t;

Are you for real, or do you only pretend to be this stupid?

Do you even know what the fark "Hooah" stands for?

Taste:
When people stop shooting at us daily, we've won. heh.

2003-03-29 03:06:29 AM
Loadedevolver:

Your tin-foil-hat must be torn. You should replace it immediately. Otherwise the mind control machines will make you crazy. No wait, too late.

Dhoom:

All I see is a bunch of arm-chair generals...

Dhoom, you crack me up!

2003-03-29 03:07:32 AM
When people stop shooting at us daily? Do you really believe that will ever happen?

2003-03-29 03:08:20 AM
Vrax;

How much time did you spend in the military?

Not only that, how much time did you spend chewing sand with your food in the desert in '91, and again in 92-93?

Well?

2003-03-29 03:09:15 AM
Heard on NPR yesterday that Gen. Franks wanted far more troops than he got, because Rumsfeld nixed his request.

The radio guy also said that Turkey's refusal of a Northern Front may have been a blessing in disguise, because otherwise the troops we have now would be spread out a lot thinner.

He was pretty pissed at Rumsfeld. Make of this what you will.

2003-03-29 03:09:50 AM
Being a grunt doesn't really confer special insight into the nature of battle. There's a reason they keep enlisted men separate from officers...

2003-03-29 03:10:54 AM
That should be the tactics of battle, not nature.

2003-03-29 03:11:44 AM
You're right, it doesn't. In fact, most ground pounders don't know shiat about what's going on.

2003-03-29 03:13:42 AM
Agreed Sidi, just a personal observation of my friends who served in the military. Most of them had their ability to think freely irrepairably damaged. Not sure what they do to them but after seeing that being a grunt makes you less qualified than more.

2003-03-29 03:13:50 AM
Although I don't know that we're doing any better. I think this thread is basically an attempt by the public to come to grasps with what is going on.

None of our ideas will affect policy, so it allows freedom to experiment with ideas and try to build a solid position. We may all be wrong, and we may all be right...but at least we're trying to form an opinion.

2003-03-29 03:14:24 AM
BILDO-

Almost spelled it right, didn't ya, asshat?

So tell me, Mr dildo...er..dilbo...uh...bildo...do you often remember to breathe independently or is it just your opinions that are made for you? What're you? A young Republican??? Run away little Farker.

2003-03-29 03:14:59 AM
....and think outside the propaganda box.

2003-03-29 03:15:56 AM
Dhoom: you're right, i lose

Hooah (who-ah), adj. U.S. Army Slang. Referring to, or meaning anything and everything except "no." Generally used when at a loss for words. Also:

1. good copy, solid copy, roger, good or great; message received, understood.
2. glad to meet you, welcome.
3. I do not know, but will check on it, I haven't the vaguest idea.
4. I am not listening.
5. that is enough of your drivel--sit down.
6. stop sniveling.
7. you've got to be kidding.
8. yes.
9. thank you.
10. go to the next [briefing] slide.
11. you have taken the correct action.
12. I don't know what that means, but am too embarrassed to ask for clarification.
13. that is really neat, I want one too.
14. amen.

I pick number 12.

2003-03-29 03:18:53 AM
M00t;

You lose, again.

It's about time for you to sit down, shut up, and let the adults speak now, ok?

2003-03-29 03:19:59 AM
Loadedevolver:

I'm probably older, more educated, and obviously more mature than you. I don't buy into idiotic assumptions, conspiracy theories, or military analysis from someone who thinks that a war 10 days old is the next Vietnam.

Grow up.

2003-03-29 03:21:51 AM
lol Bildo

2003-03-29 03:22:07 AM
I totally agree with SIDI. The point here is to communicate our thoughts about our nation and our world. We live here. We should know, understand, and discuss the issues that make up our times. Like, whatever and stuff went out in, like, the nineties, dude.

It's the 2(farking)1st century!

2003-03-29 03:22:50 AM
Dhoom:

NONE and NONE and that still means I have as much objective tactical insight as you regarding the current invasion. Unless you are involved in the creation and execution of the "Operation Iraqi Freedom" battle plan you too are an "Arm Chair General". :)

2003-03-29 03:25:26 AM
Who farted?

2003-03-29 03:26:56 AM

2003-03-29 03:27:53 AM
Vrax;

I take it "NONE and NONE" also refer to how many Mission OP Planning sessions you've been to, and how many men you've personally led into battle?

Yeah, that's what I thought, too.

The only thing you have as much as I do, is the right to espouse your "tactical insight"... whether you actually HAVE any "tactical insight" is purely a matter of opinion. Command & Conquer and Counterstrike simply don't qualify as "tactical insight" building experiences in my book.

2003-03-29 03:30:30 AM
So, you and Dhoom are buddies, huh? And you're older, more educated, and obviously more mature than me? You expose your own foolishness by making that assumption, now don't you? Now I know that you are the presumptious type. Easy to manipulate. And foolish enough to announce your assumptive nature, too. Very interesting. I bet you're sitting there feeling very wise and officious just now.

Blah. You're just another understimulated asshat like me. Get used to it.

2003-03-29 03:32:27 AM
"Can't we all just get along?"

2003-03-29 03:32:30 AM
Loadedevolver:

Other than I never use the word asshat, maybe. But I am going to sign off now.

2003-03-29 03:32:40 AM
Thanks Vrax. But that's what I thought it meant in the first place! So I still say "Let's go have a war; hooah!" shows a kind of unnuanced turn of mind.

2003-03-29 03:33:28 AM
He exposes HIS foolishness by making assumptions?

Didn't you just assume he and I are buddies?

Pot? Kettle? Black.

FYI, LoadedTinFoilHat: I have no clue who Bildo is.

If I was Bildo, I'd rather be sitting there feeling wise and officious right now... as opposed to being you, and sitting there feeling uncomfortable with my foot in my mouth.

2003-03-29 03:34:52 AM
M00t;

Here's an idea... instead of guessing at what I was meaning by it, why don't you just come out and ask me?

Amazing concept, isn't it.

2003-03-29 03:37:24 AM
Dhoom: I did ask, albeit obliquely, in my post of 03-29-03 03:15:56 AM. Clarify please?

2003-03-29 03:37:36 AM
M00t;

Maybe you should have read that article a little more closely... or purchase a dictionary.

I reference:
"The phonetically spelled battle cry "hooah" - or its Marine Corps equivalent, "ooh-rah" - often is barked when troops want to voice approval or a sense of esprit de corps."

Do you know what esprit de corps is? Yes? No?

2003-03-29 03:38:44 AM
Dhoom:

As far as "Operation Iraqi Freedom" goes, you are just as blind or not blind as the next guy. Your previous experience and strong interest doesn't elevate you above the next guy who is making a subjective analysis of the operation. Unless you are in current communication with Command and Control then you are our of the loop and you are guessing. Educated guesses or not. There are decorated, retired generals on TV playing the "Armchair General" roll right now. They can give great insight into possibilities. They aren't General Franks however. That's all I'm getting at here.

2003-03-29 03:41:19 AM
My foot fits very comfortably in my mouth.

I did not assume, you assumer you. I made a rhetorical inquiry.

I will give you big points for "LoadedTinFoilHat". I might use that. Do you mind?

2003-03-29 03:41:28 AM
I get it. Chill.

It's gonna take a lot of hooah to keep the troops happy on 1 MRE a day.

2003-03-29 03:42:17 AM
You asked? Really... I guess I missed your oblique question in between all those question marks.

/sarcasm

My "HOOAH" was merely me voicing my solidarity to my brothers in arms in the desert, as well as the hundreds of people I spent 8 years of my life with who are also there right now, some of them whose wives and kids are coming over to my house to hang out with my family and watch the news hoping we don't see anyone we know as a POW or KIA.

Next time, just farking ask.

2003-03-29 03:47:53 AM
M00t;

I appologize for coming slightly unhinged -- rough day.

Vrax;

You too - my appologies.

Loadedrevolver;

You just annoy me. Fark off.

2003-03-29 03:49:30 AM
OK, now that we've established that I know nothing of military life, I've got a question.

I've been hearing a lot about our plans in Iraq up to the point where we surround Baghdad. My question is, what happens next? Saddam is never going to surrender, and we can't starve out the city, so we have to actually go in and get him, right?
