Is it me or are the two stories the exact same?
2003-03-28 05:32:06 PM
i see no landing or updated information...
2003-03-28 05:32:48 PM
Shanzer: I agree, not exactly a followup. I think this is a report from the Departmen of Redundancy Department.

Well, it's not like Greece is all that far away.

My friend is in Turkey right now, and was to go to Troy today from Gallapoli. I'm gonna sit by the computer and wait to hear from him. Damn it..... My heart stopped a beat when I saw the headline.

Highjacker takes the microphone from the flight attendant:

"What's the deal with these airplane peanuts?"

Passengers roar with laughter...

"Thank guy's been great!"

Everyone remain in your seats! We are still in control of the aircraft.

If you replace 'Turkish airliner' with 'helicopter in downtown Atlanta', 'hijack' with 'blow out of the sky', and 'because the food sucked' with 'because it's been annoying me for the past two hours' then I completely understand where this guy is coming from. Thank jeebus I don't have an RPG.
2003-03-28 05:45:05 PM
Turkish Airlines...yeah, bet those planes are nice. The ground crew includes a guy in a tow truck with a set of jumper cables and on board, you probably sit next to a goat.
2003-03-28 05:45:08 PM
FarkinFarker/ Shanzer

the story was simply stating the airliner had landed when it was submitted. it was 2 paragraphs.
2003-03-28 05:45:09 PM
In 1998, a man carrying a teddy bear he claimed was stuffed with explosives commandeered a Turkish Airlines flight. The incident ended when he was overpowered by other passengers.

Seven months later a man brandishing what turned out to be a toy gun hijacked another Turkish jetliner. He was persuaded to surrender.

Is there some sort of toy terrorist group out there I need to know about? Can't wait until a plane I get on is hijacked by a guy with a Simon game wearing Romper Stompers.
2003-03-28 05:47:04 PM
Anybody here have CNN on? What just happened in Kuwait?
2003-03-28 05:47:33 PM
LOL the terrorist, that was exactly what i thought of. methinks its time for rainbow 6.
2003-03-28 05:49:10 PM

2003-03-28 05:49:54 PM
I've had the food on Turkish air. Turkish food is VERY good although the food on Turkish air was quite foul.
2003-03-28 05:50:20 PM

Explosion and fire near the Sheraton in Kuwait City. Hasn't made the web yet, I guess.

It's about 2 AM there.
2003-03-28 05:52:40 PM
I love Turkish Air! The smoking section is on the left and the no smoking section is on the right so the whole plane is pretty much the smoking section. There's no 'No Poultry' section either. I made a two hour flight sitting next to a rooster. "Would you move your cock?" only works when the guy knows english.
2003-03-28 05:53:03 PM
No air raid siren first, so they don't think it was a missile. Just wondering if anybody else heard more.
2003-03-28 05:56:02 PM

I'm heading home, but here's the last I saw of this:

Wolf Blitzer of CNN reports that there was an explosion in Kuwait City. He sees smoke but does not know what it is. There was no air raid siren preceding it.

Don Teague, NBC News: "We could see a very bright billowing of flames. No indication that anything came from the sky."

Teague has a gas mask on now.

(From the command post)

LOL! That's friggin funny

Ground the plane, shut down the air conditioning, let it sit in the Greek sun and let them all stew in Turkish body odor for a few hours. They'll give up soon enough.
2003-03-28 05:59:49 PM
No prob. There isn't a link to submit or I'd have done that (not trying to threadjack, ya know)

Kwt. official has said it was a missile. No report on damage or where it hit, exactly.

(with our luck it was a Patriot)
2003-03-28 06:05:22 PM
Last post: (courtesty CP)

According to Wolf Blitzer, Kuwaiti authorities are now reporting that the explosion in Kuwait City was caused by a missile. No word yet on what kind of missile was involved, but it reportedly came in low and fast which rules out a Scud. The CNN analyst also reported that all of the missiles fired at Kuwait so far were Ababil-100 and Silkworm missiles rather than Scuds.

well, i'd be embarassed if it came in slow
2003-03-28 06:05:33 PM
look kids, Big Ben! ...and there's Parliament....and there's the Parthenon....
2003-03-28 06:08:32 PM

If your friend was heading from Gallipoli to the ruins of Troy, I wouldn't worry about a plane heading from Istanbul to Ankara, which is the opposite direction.

Turkish cuisine is wonderful!
2003-03-28 06:33:27 PM
Thanks Dionyza. I think it was just panic, since he was to go to Cairo, but decided to go somewhere safer. I'm at work and can't find a map. I'll feel a lot better when he gets back to Perth.
2003-03-28 06:54:13 PM
turkish airlines they have some handsome stewardesses.
2003-03-28 07:06:27 PM
Well at least no one had to poop all over the plane
2003-03-28 07:39:48 PM
About Kuwait: Silkworms supposedly fly low, according to reports that I read earlier in the week. Hope there wasn't anything non-conventional. Actually, I hope there was "something" in it but was ineffective because we could prove to the world that we've been right all along about Hussein's weapons without the deaths of countless innocents.

2003-03-28 08:16:30 PM
seems like as good a reason as any to hijack a plane
2003-03-28 10:52:40 PM
Passengers reported that the hijacker had been strapped with explosives

I think you'll find Turkish Air to be a lot more hospitable than most american carriers. I guarantee it. There's no "smoking section", no "poultry", and a much higher safety record than any current american carrier. I have flown it many times (they have a flight to zurich from new york). It's ironic, but if the Turks could run their country half as well as they do their airline, they'd be a million times better off.
2003-03-29 05:05:06 AM
I've been in Turkey about 6 weeks now doing my part to keep the world safe from democracy.
I never thought much about Turkey before but my new opinion....
the food does indeed suck and the place is truly a shiathole.
You're welcome.
