You can carry a concealed weapon in Georgia?! Cool.

2003-03-28 11:24:09 AM
She's no hero. She didn't kill him, as promised. Now he's free to carjack again.

2003-03-28 11:25:19 AM
BrandonSi you can get a permit to carry a concealed weapon in Louisiana as well. It hasn't helped the women killed by the Baton Rouge serial killer ... yet.

2003-03-28 11:25:31 AM
An amazing re=enactment...

2003-03-28 11:28:45 AM
While it is true he is free to carjack until he is caught, maybe he'll rethink things a little. The next to be jacked might even decide to just go ahead and blow the turd away, because criminals are often not all that smart.

"If you're going to shoot me then do it, 'cause I'm definitely going to kill you," the brave resident replied"

She is kinder than I am by letting him run away.
I would have blown his freakin face right
off his shoulders.
No need to waste time by sharing any words with someone like that.

2003-03-28 11:36:57 AM
I wouldn't have killed him. I would have shot him in both of his kneecaps so he would remember me forever.

2003-03-28 11:40:19 AM
Or, Weaps, he may get a real gun and blow away the next victim quickly...in self-defense of course.

Chalk another one up for the responsible gun owner.

Irrational, gun-shy, liberal, crybabys surrender.

2003-03-28 11:41:59 AM
DownSouth:

If you shoot him in the knees, he will remember you forever. And well be paying his medical bills as well as benefits forever.

One shot.....goodbye.

2003-03-28 11:56:14 AM
She acted correctly. If she had capped him, Johnny Cochran and the rest of his ilk would have come out of the woodwork crying about the poor unarmed black guy who got killed by the nasty concealed-weapon-carrying lady. Sucks, but that's the way it is.

2003-03-28 11:57:32 AM
Oh, and if anyone wonders about what I keep in my pants, read my profile.

2003-03-28 12:21:56 PM
Cerie you've got a good point, but I just don't think I could kill someone if I didn't have to. Of course my .45 with hollow tips is not really made for just wounding someone.

2003-03-28 12:21:58 PM
Good for her, though I'm not sure about the writer's little comment:

"Determined not to become a robbery statistic"

Don't "robbery statistics" show if you fight back you're more likely to get injured than if you just hand it over? Also, she became a statistic the minute the attempted robbery occurred. As I said, I have no problem with her. She reacted to the situation and lived. Great. Statistically, since the journalist brought it up, she's probably pretty lucky.

2003-03-28 12:31:37 PM
Bleh, in common use, RepoMan, "just another statistic" implies that you are part of the common outcome...robbed blind, in this case. Sure, she was lucky in some ways, but there's also the question of how many robberies are attempted and thwarted because someone determined not to become a victim pulls a gun and doesn't fire a round. Sheep are "harmlessly" shorn every day, and some who stand up to criminals can be hurt, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't try to stand up on your own two legs.

2003-03-28 12:41:05 PM
You are far more likely to survive a violent assault if you defend yourself with a gun. 25% of robbery victims were injured when they made no resistance, while only 6% of robbery victims were injured if they defended themselves with a gun. Information from the British Home Office.

You gun crazy nuts are all the same. Don't you realize that this poor man was forced by society into this life of alleged crime? If our country had put more money into social programs designed to help people struggling in life like this poor fellow - and NOT into the NRA lobby - ours would be a much more peaceful America. This lad needs hugs and understanding - NOT more anger and hate.

If you honestly believe that he chose to live a life of crime, you probably believe that this war isn't really all about oil.

Again, I reiterate that my problem was not with the woman but the journalist. The story goes on to say that they couldn't reach the woman, so he added his own opinion to fill in the gaps. THAT is what I disagree with. And if TheOmni's statistics are right, that's fine too. Bad journalism, brave woman. That's my take, and if it amounts to beans then so be it. I like beans.

Tarantino did this scene 12 years ago in a little film called 'Reservoir Dogs'.

2003-03-28 01:27:03 PM
Hooray, another thread for people to show how bloodthirsty they are and how they can't wait to be crime victims so they can kill people.

And no, I'm not one of those "ban all guns" people.

2003-03-28 01:27:07 PM
Hmm. Shows value of having a "throw away" gun handy. Then you never have to worry about shooting an unarmed bad person.

2003-03-28 01:27:11 PM
Looks kinda short, Zenmaster, but it's how you use it that counts, right guys?

2003-03-28 01:27:18 PM
Flame on...

2003-03-28 01:27:55 PM
No matter how many of these threads I read, I can't get over how many forum-posting-internet-geeks own guns.

2003-03-28 01:28:08 PM
I often car-jack my concealed, uh, weapon.

2003-03-28 01:29:51 PM
I would have farking killed him. I'd have shot him in the face so his family would have to have a closed-casket funeral. DON'T try to farking rob me, biatch.

2003-03-28 01:30:44 PM
I don't have a problem with guns, I have a problem with stupid people owning them. Ban stupid people, or at least ban stupid people from having guns.

2003-03-28 01:31:54 PM
Thray:

Are you saying the lady in this article is stupid? If not, what warrants such a comment?

2003-03-28 01:33:33 PM
I think her choice was proper. He wasn't worth the paperwork. That, and she would probably have ruined her dashboard, which had been recently upholstered. And blood stains are damn near impossible to get out of naugahyde.

2003-03-28 01:35:04 PM
Does anyone know if you can get a concealed weapon permit in Florida?

2003-03-28 01:35:06 PM
Yep... that's why I keep my PPK in my glovebox. I hope I never have to use it against someone, as that would mean I was in a really crappy situation I'd rather not be in, but I feel better knowing that my Walther's there and that I know how to use it.

2003-03-28 01:35:14 PM
Now that I read that story closely, it doesn't say he was unarmed. Given this was Detroit, the odds of a criminal being unarmed are pretty slim. She probably should have shot him without giving him a chance to react. He could just as easily have shot her as run.

No matter how many of these threads I read, I can't get over how many forum-posting-internet-geeks own guns.

We have expensive computer equipment to worry about! Geez, think about it!

2003-03-28 01:36:37 PM
Keep in mind that this was written by the Macomb Daily. For those of you who aren't from Detroit - it's a crappy newspaper written by morons. Of course it's bad journalism.

On the up side, though, this is one of the few times you'll hear about guns being drawn in this area where someone didn't end up dead.

2003-03-28 01:36:54 PM
Why would she not call police right away?! They might have caught the little shiat. Bizarre.

Always drive with your doors locked. Especially the passenger and any rear doors as they easily allow someone to get inside. This lady could've just driven away as the would-be robber fumbles with a locked door.

2003-03-28 01:37:21 PM
No, it was a general comment. What warrents it is these stories always go off to the general gun control topic, and this one already did as well. See above "gun-control blah blah liberals surrender" comment, etc.

2003-03-28 01:37:24 PM
Hopefully the car-jacker doesn't read the Macomb Daily, cause now he know's she lives on Packard Avenue [hint hint]...

2003-03-28 01:38:45 PM
Bondgirl --

You have good taste in firearms. For serious self defense though you might consider the P-99, though, in either 9mm or .40. At least load up with Hyda Shocks or some other relatively potent ammo (I'm assuming the PPK is a .32, although I seem to recall they make them in .380, too).

2003-03-28 01:40:09 PM
If she's so intent on not being a statistic, how about locking the doors in your car?

2003-03-28 01:40:37 PM
Thray:

Gotcha.

2003-03-28 01:41:06 PM
Isn't there any way that we can blame the Isrealis oppression of the Palestinians for this? That's what A.N.S.W.E.R. would do.

2003-03-28 01:41:10 PM
Vodka -

That's good advice. I started locking all my doors when I was driving after a homeless woman charged my car and took a swing at it when I drove past her.

2003-03-28 01:44:32 PM
Ah, the flaming gun-control battle. I'd hate to get into a gun-control debate today because those are much better served for Mondays. But I will say that my opinion on this matter (not that any of you should care) is:

1. Kudos to her for arming herself and being able to protect her person since the police can't be around 24/7 for everyone.

2. I don't know what Michigan's concealed weapons laws are (someone can probably look this up on the NRA's website), but if they allow concealed carry permits (i.e. if the state "shall" issue permits to law-abiding citizens that meet certain criteria (usually age, mental stability, no criminal record, no felonies, not a drug/alcohol abuser, proficiency with a firearm etc.) then kudos to them too.

3. The majority of states now have "shall issue" concealed carry laws. Last time I checked it was somewhere between 30 and 40. The trend is to allow law-abiding citizens to carry concealed weapons to protect themselves and their families.

4. The State of Colorado legislature passed, and Governor Bill Owens signed, a new bill to allow for Colorado's first shall-issue concealed carry law. MAJOR kudos to Colorado.

I hope the trend continues.

Flame away...

2003-03-28 01:45:33 PM
hooray for michigan. i hear we have some of the most lax laws for obtaining a concealed weapons permit. as soon as i turn 21 and get my pistol i'm gonna have to go get one of those.

p.s. i play pool volleyball with the guy who wrote this article. i don't know what that had to do with anything...

2003-03-28 01:45:49 PM
In some states you don't need a concealed weapon permit to carry a weapon in your car. The law in some states consider your car as an extension of the home. Those may not be the proper words but that's the spirit.

Check with your local police before taking the word of a fellow FARKer. Better safe than sorry.

Gun Control means using both hands.

Thray, This is a fark forum - of course it will go offtopic,
this is a sure as death and taxes. I'm surprised we have not
had a boobies link yet, considering it was a female gun
owner.

This woman is a hero, she has demonstrated why
responsible citizens should be allowed to carry weapons.

2003-03-28 01:47:02 PM
More proof those law-abiding citizens should not be hampered from exercising their second amendment right to bare arms. Support for concealed care legislation!

It is a good thing that stories like this are starting to get some attention, usually happy endings involving personal protection with a gun are ignored by the media.

2003-03-28 01:47:07 PM
Moonman9j9 - Yes, take a class, submit an application, and you've got a license to carry.

2003-03-28 01:47:19 PM
Er.. I meant to state that "just last week" Colorado passed that law....

2003-03-28 01:47:34 PM
Beaters, thanks! Actually the PPK is a vintage, German make, pre-import ban 7.65 mm. As that ammo is difficult to come by, it does shoot .32 quite nicely. I have no experience with the P-99 myself... I'll have to check into that.
