(Variety) Cool Sandra Bullock's "Blind Side," the story about a Baltimore Ravens lineman, managed to slay Twilight for the weekend box office. Kind of a lateral move, though   (variety.com) divider line 50

Variety is written by morons who make up words and misuse them at will. i think it's to make outsiders feel like insiders.

Makes me want to flip off a box of kittens.

Havent seen the movie, but the book is great (as is most of Michael Lewis' books). Glad to see this story beat out Twilight.

What's so wrong with "competish"? I think, as a word, it is utterly delish. Now, I shall go have a Knish.

...oh, wait, that's actually how you say that one.

Haven't read the book, but the movie is great (better than typical Sandra Bullock movies).

I would only want to watch the movie if the entire thing was shown in slow-motion;

I wouldn't mind blind siding Sandra's Bullocks. For 45 she is still damn hot. She must eat baby placenta for breakfast.

Is there another kind?

Yes there is. There is placenta from animals. People often misspeak by describing the young of animals as babies. That is not correct. Do you call a young sheep a lamb or a baby? You probably call it a baby lamb. LOL You are welcome for the lesson in common sense.

Saw this moving this afternoon. Excellent movie. All of the Bullock chatter about this being an Academy nominiation level performance is spot on. She was fantastic and the story was great.

2009-12-06 08:18:06 PM
I know the Tuohy family, it's a really good movie (the book is better though of course). AND it does a good job of downplaying their somewhat annoying Bible-thumping nature.

did it include the ncaa investigation of sandra bullock's character, she took him in to push him to go to Ole Miss.

Hokey as hell, takes far too many liberties, pretty laughable throughout. Just... bad.

So, better than twilight at least.

/TFA made want to vomit - B.O. is box office now? Sesh? And there was cume all over the place!

2009-12-06 10:06:06 PM
Thank God! So now maybe we can stop hearing about that movie and start focusing on good movies... until Hollywood starts pumping out artsy-fartsy films that will win Oscars over films released during the rest of the year that were actually good but get overlooked because of the flood of films released in the last two weeks of December.

I don't normally go for these sorts of movies, hell, I'm not even into football except for the occasional Bears game, but I was dragged to this movie over Thanksgiving by the family and was pleasantly surprised. Sure it was a bit schmaltzy, but it was entertaining, and Sandra Bullock did a good job with her role. I'm sure it was a hell of a lot better than that Twilight movie. I read 100 pages of the first book out of curiosity one rainy afternoon, and that was enough for me. God, what dreck (and this is coming from someone who didn't mind Harry Potter).

She was on hormone treatment for awhile to try and get knocked up with her Hubby.

Book was great. Nicely written, and a good pace that carries all the way to the end.

I'm hoping they follow it up with a movie based on the Jerrell Powe story. What's not compelling about an illiterate kid suing to get into college and play football without having to go through all the hassle of learning to read?

It was enjoyable. Sandra Bullock's character was great, she was great. If you're looking for a feel-good family flick it is the perfect choice.

The whole thing was so contrived, though. It just feeds off of the audience's emotions so they come out feeling exhausted and fully relieved with the happy ending. It fluctuated between trying as hard as possible to make you cry (like an episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition), to focusing on the annoying little kid as over-the-top comic relief. It needed to be a lot less as Ikam: calls it, schmaltzy.

While I'm sure it's a decent movie, it sort of reminds me of "My Sister's Keeper", in that they made a movie for the sole purpose of extracting as much emotion as possible without much of a point.

Observatory: No wait, she is THE most over rated, untalented, downright UGLY "stars" out there.

Just so we're lear, are you saying that Megan Fox acts better than Sandra Bullock, and that she is less attractive than, say, Sarah Jessica Parker?

Yeah I think taking his criticism seriously is about as intelligent as taking any criticism on the internet seriously.

Something about this post makes me all stabby. I don't know if it's the general know-it-all-prick-ish vibe it's got going for itself, or that the use of 'LOL' sandwiched into a holier-than-thou grammar nazi whine creates a vague sense of irony.

Stabby, though. Definitely stabby.

It has been claimed by some that the easiest troll on Fark is to state that an attractive woman is unattractive, but I've never seen any empirical data on the subject.

Perhaps this post makes you "stabby" because the author sounds like the kind of douchewad you would litterally want to stab.

Not to mention that he is wrong, because even if a baby of an animal species has another name, it is still....a BABY.

That, or it's a troll, because that is one hell of a d-bag, if it's real...

Just finished the book this morning on the metro, it was great. Lewis did a good job at not just telling a feel-good story, but also pointing out that neither the Tuohy's nor Michael were perfect. It was apparently a rocky road: lots of speculation about their motives, Michael has his flaws, NCAA investigation, etc.

I also heard somewhere that Oher didn't like the movie? Anyone have a source for that?

/haven't seen the movie, but will

Just saw it yesterday and enjoyed the movie and the story. I could relate to Michael and knowing it was based on a true story, it made me feel better about humanity in general.

Then it should be recommended viewing BEFORE logging into Fark?
