In the 1990s Massachusetts voters were persuaded to end animal cruelty by banning most beaver hunting and trapping. And now we have three times as many beavers and a state full of plugged culverts. Politicians will overrule the people on taxes and campaign finance and most anything they feel like but not this issue.
