coondoggin: um... Glasgow, DE is not a populated place at all. It is very populated 10 miles away, but not Glasgow itself.

I'm sorry: were I have lived 10 miles makes very little difference as far as population density.

stinkycatfish: I reported the SB one, did anybody else?

I tracked down the Union Square one from this picture (new window). I saw Macy's in the next pictures then looked though the rest and found AT&T park so I knew to look for Macy locations in SF then find the building with Google Maps.

Turned out Mellisa already had that one but it was still fun.

Nice. I never was able to track down the two unidentified photo leads I got. All I saw were some 19th-century buildings, and no application could seem to identify them.

THANKS

Funny, I totally predicted to a friend yesterday that there would be one in Charlottesville. I would have even gone out looking except today was our first snow of the year, and it was doing so pretty hard. I wonder if it was a late discovery.

THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO SAY THANKS MELISSA!

/why, oh why, would that have been shortened to just thanks???

Rhode Island School of Design sent me on a wild goose chase (new window)
But I did track it down so it's a partial victory (new window)

I didn't even look. I didn't think they would put one here and just happened to see it while I was riding my bike this morning.

Sorry - but I just have to post the result of my 10Balloon lead again just because there will most likely never be a reason to post this picture again...

Mr. Cabron: Kaka: Mr. Cabron: Can we get some counts?
What do we have and what are we missing?

That is a Melissa question.

Yes. But it would be a good idea to have some sort of instruction on the page.

What I see is that if'n ya want info from ANYBODY, e-mail. All specifics have to held tight. Ask if the area you want to explore is useful...by email. Even to say it's not, is info that we can't let out.

This is the fake I made and posted on several competing sites, with coordinates that matched the location in Geogetown, TX.

www.alpinecom.net

It survived all the "wipes" on 10balloons. Also posted on flickr and tweeted the URL. All for nought, but fun while it lasted.

A big pat on the back for PRG, we did pretty damn good for a bunch of farking schmucks!

Melissa, thanks for all your hard work.

While I was fairly sure no sane SOB would come to my part of the continent, I still drove through the season's first snow to make sure.

This was great.

This whole topic has made me realize just how much of a game of Mario Kart the human race plays on a near constant basis. When one person gets ahead, it's always BOOM, Blue Shell, POW Block, Lightning Bolt

From the DARPA press release: DARPA plans to meet with teams to review the approaches and strategies used to build networks, collect information, and participate in the Challenge.

Run, PunkRockGirl, they're coming to collect you!

Scruffinator: GWSuperfan: Dammit- they cleaned their map again- I was almost done with VODAK too :-(

I bet they hate us right now.

// careful, Fark might get disqualified if porn words are put on the maps...

Check out e-bay...
i think an individual will win it.

LT L: gregscott: I would have chosen the locations differently. Some should have been in relatively unpopulated areas. From the map posted above, all the locations are visible to an extremely large number of people. Like maybe one in Big Bend National park, or Grand canyon, or rural Kentucky town hear where Drew lives.

Yeah: I'm kinda shocked that all of the balloons were in very populated areas, and still it took all day to find them. Maybe teh intertubes aren't as fast as we thought.

only 4000 entries, they need to run an egg hunt involving 100 million internet scouts.
...for a million $ prize.

4000 geeks succeeded in misspelling penis for the whole world to see, the college students found balloons while the geeks were thus occupied with the shiny object penus.

10balloons = honey trap

Yeah, I was thinking (but not typing, because I don't want them to collect *me*) that punkrockgirl will never again be the first person to read her own email.

DARPA didn't read this, did they? Oh, good.

Mr. Cabron: Hmm.
Placement was on the borders.

Looks like the insertion points for an invasion of the US.

The challenge could be taken to simulate how long it would take to identify and tag an armed invasion force that knocked out the major comm grids.

don't be afraid of the people to the north :)

Red balloon will help you fly away

Red balloon has a tale to tell
of candy fun and golden bells
Red balloon will push you down a well
Red balloon will send you straight to hell.

You've got to follow your balloon.

DARPA hasn't provided rankings yet. Try back later.
