Mustaf Herod Upyur Poupr: CtrlAltDelete: Thanks to those who draw funny pictures on the map. We smiled, but our algorithms immediately rejected them. But keep having fun, we are!.

Heh. What a crock of shiat. There's no algorithm. They just cleaned ALL marks off the map. Algorithm: That word doesn't mean what 10balloons.com thinks it means.

Yeah, that made me smile.
"Heeeyyy... those baloons says 'FARK'. That not reeeal."
Algorithm? Really?

I hope we get an update thread sometime tomorrow about how many balloons we found, even if we lose.

You're right...no, its not legitimate news. I'm just saying people are talking about what went on in this thread. I think that is funny.

It's a red herring. The pic is a sample on the Darpa site.

upright_apes_r_us: I didn't find a red balloon, just some lame ass golden ticket.

Half off on your next paper order!

2009-12-05 05:06:05 PM
I saw a big red balloon about 100 ft in the air in Denver at Broadway and Mississippi. I drove closer and it was attached to a building with balloons all around. It some recently opened apartment building with vacancies so I doubt that's one of them. I have to drive by a little later again and I'll take a pic this time.

I don't know about the rest of you but I found one.

Melissa asked me to check a 10Ballons lead in St. Paul and sure enough - I found one.

farm3.static.flickr.com

And no - it was SO not a waste of time - I was so amped driving there as I TOTALLY felt DARPA would drop one in the Twin Cities.

In fact I was here at 10:00 AM ET sharp as I really thought DARPA could not resist putting one here.

Well, I had an idea...if someone was foolish enough to host a photo on an image hosting site, it might be easy to find. You could check flickr, photobucket, etc. for keywords darpa, balloon (this date only), and so on. Bonus points if you can pull the EXIF data. Compare against user profiles for location data.

2009-12-05 05:37:43 PM
There are a few pictures up on flickr....

2009-12-05 05:49:31 PM

Mustaf Herod Upyur Poupr: Then we need a list of balloon numbers that we don't have yet, so we can do some bloody data mining.

That is a tough one as we do not want to post here. Email Melissa?

Wow. I am still in jammies and a bathrobe, and I haven't showered or eaten yet and my head is hurty.

Taking a little break now, keep emailing me those leads! I don't want to give numbers, but we have quite a few confirmed and some credible leads.

Mustaf Herod Upyur Poupr: Just shot ya an email, Melissa. Just a request for numbers to look for. I want to join the datamining brigade.

Yup. All the balloons should be down within the hour, and this will quickly move from being a real-time exercise to a data hunt.

2009-12-05 06:21:55 PM
Someone should write "Meep" on the map over Canada.
