I would say "Only the Brits," but when I first read the farkline, it sounded so USA until the Queen bit.

Are they on duty? If not, then what's the problem?

Trio of singing soldiers who raise money for injured comrades told they can't wear their uniforms when they sing God Save The Queen in front of the Queen because it's considered moonlighting should all be shot for producing the most cringe-inducing excuse for music I've heard in my life. If I was an injured soldier and I heard them coming my way I'd ask to be put out of my misery.

Well it sounds like total BS at first, but I guess it depends what kind of business arrangement they have. If they were raising money strictly for a charity, I think that would be heartless to refuse, but it sounds like they're a regular ol' professional singing group, which means even if they give a large portion to charity, they are still making money off of it. At least that's the impression from TFA, such as when it says "They are soldiers raising money for injured soldiers as well as their families," the idea that they personally are making money from it, however little, is probably the issue.

Can they wear someone else's uniforms?

Now there's an idea. I vote for the Hawkmen uniforms from Flash Gordon. I know you are going to want Imperial Stormtroopers or whatever the cool kids are wearing, but you didn't think of the distortion from their helmets, did you? You want to be able to hear every octave crisp and clear. And you won't get that with closed face helmets, will you? We've all heard Vader sing, and it's not pretty.

The question I had, which wasn't completely answered, was whether these guys were making a dime off of this or whether all of the money went to charity. If all of it was a charitable fundraiser, it seems fine. But if they're pocketing a chunk of the money, then no, they should not be using their uniforms.

I am fairly sure the sentence references the families of the injured soldiers. Poorly written English, but then again it is The Sun so what should we expect?

The only real answer can be that not all the money raised is going to charity. Wearing uniform as part of a charity gig is fine as you are not getting the money yourself, I've done it. Acting as markers for a marathon or ushers at Wimbledon whilst wearing uniform is also fine as again, you don't get paid extra for that.

I watched about 15 seconds of one of their videos before I threw up. I might donate to one of their charities but certainly not because of them, it would be despite them. What crap.

If my GED in law is worth interesting, I believe the military has rules on whether you can wear your uniform for fundraising purposes not approved by command. After all, the marine core would have quite a black eye if some guy was trying to raise money for NAMBLA.

"it's considered moonlighting"

Yes it is. So what?

So, they"ll sing "My Country Tis of Thee" instead?

They are not allowed to wear the uniform, because it's currently on loan to other soldiers.

We can only afford enough uniform and equipment to pass it around. No one gets their own uniform to wear for always.

Sheesh. I thought everyone knew that.
