Ahh, having been a former scanner junkie but casual listener now, there are tidbits few a far between. I've heard trainees talking crap about dispatchers with the mic accidentally open, cops telling war stories about how they got around the rules and tricked some college students and busted up their house party or how they cut the power to dorm rooms if they don't open up.

A tame recent one had the 911 dispatcher leave her mic open. A 911 hang up call comes in:

"Hello blabbity 911"
"Helloooooooooo?!?" (cranky tone is obvious)
"Hellooooo, don't hang up on me!"
"Don't hang up on me!"
"Alright, I'm sending the cops" (I'm going to ruin your night tone is obvious)

I'm sure the cops loved hearing how they get pawned into running around because the dispatcher is cranky over a call.

Best scanner tidbit that I have ever heard was a guy showed up at a local fire station with his trans-am and wanted the firemen to help him cast the demons out of his possessed car. You could hear the amusement in the dispatcher's voice as she relayed the story a couple of times to the officers. She was professional and didn't break down in uncontrollable giggling.
