Yep, Canada.

Yeah, that would never happen HERE where we have the best healthcare in the WORLD!

It sounds like they're really upset about nothing other than the fact that the dad has sand in his angina.

Huh. Surprised this happened in Canada. I've heard of it happening in the US from time to time, but I wouldn't think Canada would do it too.

This has nothing to do with healthcare as such. It has to do with stupid people, which are found everywhere.

For the sake of the patient calling the medics, while time consuming, was probably a good idea. Nurses and doctors are pretty useless in the field. They just aren't trained to work outside, they don't know the tools we use in the field and they are clueless when it comes to procedures beyond the exam room doors. In other words they would only be in the way.
Having said that there is no reason that they couldn't have sent a tech, orderly or security guard out with a wheelchair to help bring the patient inside.

Alright. I wanna good, clean fight. In the event of a knockdown go to the nearest corner and stay there until I signal for the fight to continue. Keep all hits above the waistline. Now touch gloves, return to your corners, and when the bell sounds come out fighting.

Smale said the outcome could have been different if an ambulance wasn't at its post when the call went out for his dad, who had a triple bypass about three years ago and suffers from angina.

Smale said his father was expected to recover, but hopes staff will change their practices.

"Policy supersedes doing the right thing these days," he said. "Hopefully this might change the policy a bit for someone in the future."

The son doesn't seem too upset, so I guess, all's well that ends well! www.smileyicon.netwww.feebleminds-gifs.com

So not true. Just look at all those documentaries, like LOST, on TV that show how resourceful and beautiful and young our nation's doctors and nurses are.

Legal liability. It happens here in the U.S. as well and it's due to lawsuits filed against hospitals in the past because they went out, put someone in a stretcher and then wheeled them inside. I'm sure at some point this thread will turn into a flame-war about universal healthcare but the entire story is really about the need for legal reform in both Canada and the United States.

Similar thing happened to my dad (I'm in the US by the way). He passed out in the doctor's office at the hospital, and had to be moved literally down the hall to a bed. No one at the hospital would actually move him though, so my mom had to call 911 and wait for some firefighters to show up, put him on a gurney, and walk him the hundred or so feet to the bed.

So yeah, Canada has nothin' on the US, NUMBER ONE NUMBER ONE WOO WOO WOO!

My dad was fine by the way, he had been having issues with dizziness and fainting though, which is what he had gone to the doctor's for in the first place.

what I don't understand is how can you sue someone for trying to save you, but can't sue a company that is clearly trying to kill you and take your money

Yeah, this is clearly a problem with the healthcare system and not the legal system. Oh wait.

I get that not just anyone can provide medical assistance to a nearby person in distress, even if their job is located in a hospital.
What I don't understand is why the hospital people didn't just call the paramedics themselves.

"Hello, 911? This is the receptionist at hospital moosefark. There's a dude collapsed out in the parking lot."
"Are you a direct relative of said dude?"
"Well, no"
"Well then, go fark yourself, eh?"

Stupidity is everywhere. The difference is right now the stupidity you have up there costs you less than the stupidity we have down here.

We like to overpay for stupidity. Like everything else. Naybe that has something to do with our horrible math scores in our schools?

My knowledge of medical procedural television shows leads me to believe you can just kick an overdosing teenager out of your car on the hospital steps and they will cart him inside. Maybe this lady should have driven closer before pushing out her cardiac arresting husband onto the cement.

Probably that and a combination of liability concerns.

But ultimately both the dividends and union angles boil down to loving money over human life.

Basically in the US the law states that if you have made it unto the hospital property you have "presented" to the hospital, and we have a duty to go out and get you and treat you.
I've had several instances when people arrive by "Homeboy Ambulance Service" (i.e. private car) and have had to struggle getting 300 pounders out of cars because the family didn't call 911 because they didn't want to get stuck with an additional ambulance bill. I give those paramedics/firmeman a lot of credit doing the same thing, but with the added difficulty of getting somoene out of a crushed car in the middle of a busy road with a bunch of cars whizzing by them.

Costs..

My friend was billed about $2.5k USD after her car wreck in which case an ambulance happened by when the accident happened and convinced her she should go get checked out. They waited around for an hour for her to fill out the accident report and give her story to the police. The ambulance personnel convinced her that it was imperative that she go with them, lest she be doing permanent damage to herself and not even knowing it.

The hospital wanted another $4k USD just for saying, "They told you what? Well, lets test some reflexes and poke you a bit, here's a Valium since you seem a little shaky."

Mentat: This wouldn't happen if we had tort reform.

Man am I glad I moved you to the "gray" list (farkied as friend so to speak) earlier. It means that I might not agree with you but you generally speak the truth and offer opinions based on reality no matter what your political affiliations read.

Err... Ignore the rest. Keep on keeping on. Read it if you want but no worries either way. The rest is just a drunken rant that likely does not apply to you unless you want it to.

As a U.S. citizen I say - even WITH THIS, it is an improvement - health care NOW for everyone at 'no' (out of pocket immediately) cost. No being subjective. Yes, raise my farking taxes. I don't even PAY for my health care. I earned it. I pay out the ass in taxes though - far more than many here. (fark retiring and investing. It is NOT that easy nor at all inexpensive and I'm not even all that good at it. They tax interest, earnings, blah blah. I don't even KNOW what they tax so I pay someone who does.

Yeah it sucks but as a whole, in the long term, it can only benefit us. The farktards on the left screwed it all up. Kick their asses out. They're MORONS and need to go. For the mouth breathing assholes on the right? I'll give you ONE hint... Maybe two.

The word "society" and "socialism" aren't at all dissimilar. Yes socialism is bad. Yes communism is bad. They suck when applied to the real world - you know that. That doesn't mean that society and community are bad. It doesn't mean that some moderation is bad. It doesn't mean that capitalism and profits have to stop. What it means is you have to remember that there are more people on the planet than just you. The same applies for you farking "liberals."

Liberals? Oh my farking sweet flying spaghetti monster... Liberal? Do you KNOW what that word means? Do you NOT get what LIBERTIES are? Stop stealing the words to make yourselves feel better. You're as liberal as the conservatives are about conservation. You shiatbag nanny state cock suckers. Increase legislation while biatching about the enforcement - fruition - you don't understand it. Durp! Let's ban this! It is for their good! Hurr! Those guys suck! They try to enforce morality! Let's make them conform to our ideals instead of listening to the majority. We'll call it a "civil" issue or a matter of "rights" (both concepts are beyond most of you) even though we've long since lost the concept of what either of those are! It will be fun - we'll hold a rally! You suck more cock than a closeted Republican.

Find me a socialist or communist (they're NOT the same you farktards) society that has lasted longer than the United States IN RECENT HISTORY. Couching morality in various forms does not make it any different. Half the farker here - the Fark Liberals - rant and rave about the right while running off to get their talking points from what surely must be spoof sites and comedians and then have the audacity to pretend they have an original thought. You're as bad as Bush and are lock step into his ideals just coming from a different view.

I just re-read this and I sound like a drunken lunatic. Don't worry - I am. You still talk like a fag and your shiat's retarded. Chances are if you think I'm not talking about you, I am.

You stupid shiat "liberals" need to get an idea of your own. Just one. Try to sit down and (I'm stretching here but hoping you can keep up) do something. I'd say paint something or what not. Then go online and see how farking retarded you are - what you thought was unique is just what you've been spoon fed.

You retarded ass conservatives? Oh my... I'm not even sure where to begin. Look, you're the only thing on the entire farking planet that is worse than the liberals. I'm including AIDS in that, I'm including Obama in that - as it might mean something to you. You're worse than an AIDS infested Obama. The only thing conservative about you is your willingness to think. That doesn't apply to you but it applies to anyone who willingly sticks their name next to said moniker as much as it applies to anyone willing to call themselves a liberal. farking farksticks. All of you. How about striving to have an opinion of your own? Instead of being TOLD what to think how about looking at the issue, thinking about it, talking to people of opposing views (that is talking TO not talking AT nor talking DOWN TO nor feeling superior while doing so), actually taking the time to empathize with those who are impacted by your choices, and (you know) making a rational choice based on how you truly feel as opposed to what you're told you should think seeing as you self-identify with some fictional name because you want to feel like you fit in???

This is surely a wasted post. Imma gonna post it anyhow. fark it. Many of you remind me of the farktards I used to play with...

"Hey, what do you do?"
"I'm a college student."

Or...

"I'm a sales executive."

No shiatstick. I asked what you DID not what your job title was you pathetic pussnuggets.

Anyhow... Yay for drunken rambling. It's okay - you can read it and ignore it and just call me names and think you're better. You might even get some other people to join in and then you can be a club or something. You could read it, I suppose, but if you read it and get it then I'm probably preaching to the choir. If you can't then remember - you're special and unique and you have your own individual choices and it is awfully nice of you to put yourself squarely into the box you were told to fit into.

Yup... I re-read that again. It's a good rant I think but I don't think it will matter much. However... Not applicable to this article but don't you think it's hypocritical to claim that the retards on the right are quoting Rush for their "talking points" and then shambling off like zombies to see what TPM has to say about the daily issues you're told you should be aware of and, while on the same site, told what to think? I suppose it is okay though because you "agree" with them.

Bah... Just think for yourself. Even if you're wrong you at least have the honor of saying you made the mistake all on your own. Sure, it requires you be responsible and shiat but no one's going to hate you for an opinion and, if they do, fark 'em - you're entitled to your own opinion.
