"The United Kingdom's biggest problem? Apparently it's 'cheap beer'"

That's the weirdest spelling of "States" I've ever seen.

The United Kingdom's biggest problem? Apparently it's 'cockney rhyming slang'

I do believe that we are done in one.

I do believe you're right.

The best selling beer in Ireland is Miller Genuine Draft. Has been for a few years now. Everything else is just too bloody expensive.

2009-12-04 02:18:28 PM
FTFA: "But alcohol campaigners in Scotland claim selling drink so cheaply will encourage people to buy and consume more than they normally would."

So some Scots are against cheap beer?

I think their biggest problem is boredom. They don't have guns, real dogs, voilent movies, violent video games, free speech, real cars, good looking women, teeth, good weather, or real sports. What else is there to do other than get drunk?

We would have accepted "chavs" as a correct answer as well.

2009-12-04 02:19:32 PM
Not sure what the current exchange rate is right now, nor whether or not those are shiat beers or not, but it doesn't sound that far out of the ordinary, least compared to the States.

2009-12-04 02:20:10 PM
Even those prices for the piss they are talking about are more than what I have to pay for wonderful Belgian-style home brew that spins out at about 8% alcohol.

Mmmmm, about 75 litres for around £55

Merry Christmas, farkers

Thank God I live in the U.S....where many beers are cheaper than Odwalla juice.

My thought would be, "Who cares what you think the price should be? The question is, what does the market think the price should be?"

The poster I was quoting was just dissing Limeyville in general, so less of the moran, moran. This is Fark - consequently there are only two countries in the world for those guys who spend their lives hiding under the kitchen table - US and 'not us'.

FTFA: "But at Morrisons there is a deal that has prompted the most criticism - four bottles of Carlsberg for a pound."

Do they mean the 3.8% Carlsberg? That's not that good of a deal if you're concerned about actually getting drunk. Even if it was the 5% product, a can of Hurricane HG at my local 7-11 is a better alcohol value than these 'cheap' beer prices.

BFD. You can get 4 of these bad-mofos for like $2 and change.

Do not let them walk this path. Down that way leads madness. Save yourselves. It's too late for us, but you still have a chance.

Did anyone else notice how many times that tree hugger said 'We think'?

Jack Law from Alcohol Focus Scotland said: "We think alcohol products should be more expensive than fruit juice or water or soft drinks and this quite clearly is not.

"We think this will encourage people to perhaps buy more than they would choose to buy and probably therefore drink more than they would choose to drink.

"So we think these kinds of deals, these kinds of things actually add to the problem that we've got about alcohol in Scotland."

Balchinian: The best selling beer in Ireland is Miller Genuine Draft. Has been for a few years now. Everything else is just too bloody expensive.

I was shocked when I went to a pub in Cork and saw an Irishman pick up 3 Coors Lights for himself and his friends. I said to him "I never thought I'd come all the way from Texas to Ireland and see an Irishman order Coors Light." He responded, "Yeah, we're not that far behind ya, ya know."

I guess he didn't pick up on the sarcasm. All those wonderful beers to choose from and you go with Coors Light?

Not a fan of Boddington's it is supposed to be some of their better stuff, but it is InBev, so I guess it sucks like every other Macrobrew.

Now that InBev owns AB, how easy is it to find Bud Light across the pond?

HA. I have 5 cases of beer in my flat right now for this very reason:

Sainsbury's is selling two boxes of Stella for £14, a total of 36 bottles at a price that works out at around 39p.

It works out to about £1.44/L, which I thinks works out to about .86 cents per 12oz. bottle. I picked up a case of Carlsberg Export (the 5% ABV stuff) from my local Sainsbury's about five days ago, and I got two cases of the Stella for £14 (it's £10 a single 18-pack) two days ago as well as on my way home today. I hope they don't run out or discontinue the sale any time soon, as I'd love to stock up a few more cases if possible!
