The real reason for the whole thing was that it was just too much effort not to have a war

Baldrick: I heard that it started when a bloke called Archie Duke shot an ostrich 'cause he was hungry.

Edmund: I think you mean it started when the Archduke of Austro-Hungary got shot.

Baldrick: Nah, there was definitely an ostrich involved, sir.

Edmund: Well, possibly. But the real reason for the whole thing was that it was too much effort not to have a war.

Oh please, take me out of this kind of story. Do you want to start this firestorm of criticism over the Germans again, Michael? You're in the dark as much as if you were in the dark of the matinée. Walk away, please. I can't stop feeling this is just a waste of time.

Do you mean "How did the war start?"

Holy crap. That's Hugh Laurie. Lulz!

I was expecting reparations in the sense of "Our great great grandparents did something naughty to your great great grandparents, so here's some money", but this looks like it's more about "Our great great grandparents borrowed money from your great great grandparents to do something naughty, so here's the debt paid off".

A little bit different. And more boring.

Yeah but they kept the showers short and conserved water.

Yeah, Stephen Fry was in Blackadder Goes Forth as well, along with Tony Robinson and...dammit, I forget who played Captain Darling. Same guy who played Percy in the first two and was mostly gone in the third.

I still can't decide if I like Blackadder the Second or Blackadder Goes Forth better, they're both pretty awesome. I kinda think Laurie outweighs the Queen, though, and the episode with Flashheart in IV is just amazing.

I'd heard of it (mostly from Farkers) but never seen any. Looks like there's a whole bunch on Google vids. Looks hilarious. Woot!

I'll just geek-out and say that origins of WW1 are one of the most fascinating areas of study and it is interesting that almost 100 years later there are few 'winning' theories that can cover all that happened in the span of time that it occured. Someone looking for a singular "Who is to blame for the War?" will be sorely disappointed.

The one thing I *think* would have been critical is if A-H had given Serbia a reasonable amount of time to respond to the July Ultimatum (as opposed to, oh, 3 days) then things may not have played out as they did. As it was, events seemed to keep moving much faster than the Old School diplomacy's ability to keep informed (or just keep up, in general).

He's not so bad as Robin Hood either. Especially since his Maid Marian was played by Kate Moss.

"No, not in half an hour, you rubber desk Johnny! Send the biatch with the wheels right now or I'll jump in my kite, fly back to London, and give your wife something to hang her towels on!"

That kicked ass! More comprehensible than the presentation at the Kansas City National WW1 Museum. Is there a WWII cartoon like it yet?
