Yeah, I'm kind of curious to see how that's going to affect Propecia sales. Probably not at all. Baldness is evil in the US.

Yeah, nah. I take it with no side effects whatsoever (for hair loss) - trust me if there were any side effects at all I wouldn't bother, and especially not side effects like that.

This article is freaky, however, and I'm instantly reconsidering things. A little reading on this matter is in order tonight.

/incidentally if you're gonna hit me up for being vain or insecure, bear in mind that popping a pill each day with no side effects seems like a good, easy deal to slow teh bald, esp. for a guy in his 20's - which was working for the most part (my brother is pretty much bald as an egg).

When I was in high school we'd go to the pool all the time and there was this fat-assed lifeguard there that only got his job because he was the mayor's nephew. He was in one of my buddys' gym classes and he totally couldn't even do one pullup. I heard that a bunch of girls ganged up on him one day and shucked him and took a polaroid of his pecker and put it on the wall in the senior hallway. I didn't see it, because Todd James the asshole senior had a hard-on for me and all he wanted to do was fight me and shiat and I'm not like that and I figured I'd just avoid the whole situation because I'm all about peace and seriously, I didn't feel like kicking his ass just to see some dude's tiny penis. I think Todd was just mad because I totally used his name in a story I wrote for my English class about a dude who loved unicorns. I got a C on that story. It would've been an A but the ashole teacher didn't like the fact that I knew that Edgar Allen Poe was killed by rabies instead of drugs. That shiat's true, you can look it up.

I wouldn't worry too much. The article suggests that the men who developed manboobs and breast cancer are taking it for prostate enlargement. That's a five milligram per day dosage. Finasteride for hair loss is only one milligram per day.

As always folks, there is absolutely, no way ever, that anyone can tell you anything is "safe." Especially if that something is NEW, as in less than a few hundred years old.

All actions have consequences. All consequences take time to manifest. Only after a long period of time, can someone make safety predictions, and even then, they are statistical in nature. While the odds may be good, you may still be the .0001% of the sample that are adversely affected.

And by then it is too late. Thou art farkd.

/blind faith is no substitute for risk assessment

Yeah, I remembered that shortly after posting my comment, which was a nice realisation. Still, every now and then I get this urge to just stop taking them anyway, I guess because for a guy who has never even taken anti-biotics before, popping a daily pill for something non-essential seems extreme.

The drug name is Finasteride, for hair loss it's usually sold under the brand name Propecia. In New Zealand you require a prescription for it and I'd imagine it's the same in the US, so just mention it to your doctor. It's really a preventative drug, so if that horse has already bolted I'm not sure what it'd do for anyone. Also studies have shown that combining its use with a minoxidil? product like Rogaine is the most effective approach (although that kind of carry on is too much effort for me)

Obviously not every single person on the planet has the same reactions to a medication, not sure why people are assuming I said such. I had that side effect, as did countless others. Google it, there are support groups online about it.

News flash: drugs have side effects.

News flash: lots of drugs negatively impact sex drive and sexual function. Lots of them. A whole farking lot of them. Stuff many people take every day can negatively impact sexual function.

News flash: finasteride killed your boner and/or your sex drive? It doesn't for the vast majority of people. Hormone profiles vary from person to person, and the inputs which affect changes in that profile can vary in a bewildering number of ways from person to person.

Sexual dysfunction is a difficult nut to crack (har) because there can be a strong psychological effect at work, including, "I feel okay, but I just read that the stuff I'm taking can make me impotent! I'm very worried! Oh no, I'm not maintaining my erection now that I'm worried! Am I going permanently impotent? I'd better immerse myself on a board full of other people with the same worries so that we can scare each other to death and obsess over this, which I hear is very healthy for male sexual function."

Did you read the one about finasteride causing tissue atrophy in the penis of test rabbits? (Or rats, or hamsters, I can't remember which.) It may even be shrinking your penis. There's something to worry about, too.

Okay, since we're talking about moobs anyways...

My nipples are different colors. Have been as long as I can remember. The left one is almost skin color, pretty damn close. The right one is what you would consider "normal", being a dark, I guess brown, color. The left one(off colored) is occasionally itchy, and when I scratch it, these bumps come up, and if I continue scratching long enough the bumps will start to bleed. I've tried lotions and such, but nothing seems to help. Maybe the power of Fark can help, maybe not. I just thought I'd share because I've been drinking a lot of vodka. I've long ago stopped clicking gorgors links, but I'm sure he has one on hand for what I just posted.

If you know, or have an idea, of what's wrong with my left nipple, don't be afraid to post. I'm laughing as I type this, but it is kind of serious. When I tell people about it, they give a chuckle, then when I lift up my shirt they all gasp. It's pretty entertaining, really. But yeah, I figured this was the best thread I've seen over the years to bring it up.

I've taken Propecia for many years. I've recently switched to Dutasteride (Avodart) because it works better.

Long story short, my hard on is slightly less hard that it used to be, but I do "erection therapy." Basically I make sure that when I look at online porn, I do it for like an hour at a time because it seems to reduce the "softness" at other times. If I go weeks without a few hours of porn a week, my penis and sex drive is weak.

I just find it funny that doctors are like...oh these drugs are perfectly safe...we've run studies over the years...blah blah.

Until you run a study that lasts the entire span of a human life (at least 60+ years), then you are guessing it's safe.
