Net Flix sucks net dix

plus 11 other much more appropriate films. Not that bad a score. Guess whoever last bought Raging Bull had some quite diverse purchases to make..

Will they also like Looking For - Best Of David Hasselhoff?

The song "Hot Shot City" is particularly good.

When asked how NetFlix came to such a conclusion, a spokesman simply responded, "I heard things. I heard things."
2003-03-27 08:40:15 PM
What? I don't understand what's odd about that. In fact, it could be nice. You could get all rowdy from watching Raging Bull and then cool down with some Nursery Rhymes
2003-03-27 08:45:50 PM
i dunno... nursery rhymes are pretty tight sometimes.

This is why you never ever ever trust a company's reccomendation system. Amazon and Launch both try to get me into records that have nothing to do with what I picked. "Fans of Impaled Nazarene also purchased Britney Spears."

You KNOW they're paid by certain companies to push product and then come up with whatever wack justification they can.

I dig on the netflix.. even considering getting rid of cable..

Raging Bull

Cow Jumping Over the Moon.

Makes sense to me.

"People who rented The Last Temptation of Christ also rented Jonah: A Veggietales Movie" :)

Actually, I own Jonah. I love talking vegetables.

Netflix. Without those kaks I would have never been bored to tears watching the 1972 version of Solaris.

But I love them all the same.

People who liked Battlefield Earth also liked these movies ...
Fortress 2

The Guardian

The Immortal

Somehow, I'm not surprised

Netflix is not guilty here, those results are based on what people actually ordered.

"Yay, my first submission in 18 months!"

So who DID you have to blow to get this lame, boring link posted?
2003-03-27 10:03:07 PM
has anyone seen the Raging Bullwinkle movie clip? Farking funny stuff
2003-03-27 10:14:39 PM
That's a sick link, you're a sick fark, and I'm not that sick that I'm responding to this thread.

Oh, and your mother sucks farkin' big farkin' elephant dicks. You got that?

2003-03-27 10:33:38 PM
And "Death of a Salesmen"?

Netflix is a decent service overall, but there suggestion algorithms are really farked up. It seems like they have a certain list of shiat they want to rent out and always suggest it no matter what your actual preferences are. They've been suggesting old Star Trek episodes to me forever, despite the fact that I have repeatedly rated them as 'not interested'.

BTW - I'm a big Star Trek fan, I just don't want to farking rent them.

Meh..I got banned from the Raging Bull Blog for
3 things:

- Pointing out that if you add another G to Raging Bull,
you get Ragging Bull. (which is impossible.. Bulls can't menstruate....well...unless it's a Robert Paulson Bull.. you know.. Bob..Bob had biatch T|ts..his testicles were removed, so his body had to up the estrogen..etc etc)

- Stating the opinion that Pepsi Blue tasted like rancid blue candyfloss in a can.

- Mentioning my preference to Coca Cola products.

For those interested, I just started with netflix and am very pleased so far... There is a two week free deal going on right now (what I am currently on) just go to their site ( and enter code: Friend36
2003-03-28 01:02:02 AM
You don't really need a code at all. When I joined it automatically gave me two weeks free. I like netflix, not love but like, it beats that asswipe late-charging blockbuster any day! The only problem is that I've been with them for like 6 or 7 months now and it seems like the longer I'm with them the less movies on my list are available for me. But no matter what it still beats blockbuster! And I get my movies to and from Houston to here(NW Arkansas) in like two days! YAY for netflix!

Netflix is of limited greatness. After you've watched over 13,500 movies what then ? I think they should add pornos to their line-up.

Netflix recommendation algorythm is this...

If customer A rents movie B
Then customer A will like movie C

movie C = random selection of movies including ones that you have just rented last week, those you indicated you were not interested in, and movies that are not available.

I saw the founder of Amazon doing a presentation on the way their recommendation algorythm was developed, sounded very logical and well researched, but the results online were disappointing.

"Consumer Reports" is really the only organization in history to develop a successful Darwinian natural selection matrix, ie "peanut butter A tastes better than B".

Netflix rules. I just had my 2 year anniversary with them. I've got over 300 movies in my queue. They just built a new shipping center in Minneapolis so new and/or popular releases come in one day. Their recommendations are worse than amazon's, but I think that's because I'm much more willing to rent crap than buy it. So they suggest more crap (i.e., you just rented "Blue Crush" perhaps you'd like to rent "Crossroads.")

They used to rent "mature" titles, but stopped. I think people were just keeping them, so it's probably not worth the hassle.

As for Amazon recommendations, I've found them to be pretty good for the most part. Occasionally you need to go into the settings to fix stuff though. Just because I bought my little sister a book doesn't mean I only want suggestions for books geared towards 13-year old girls.
2003-03-28 01:44:03 PM
Oddly enough, I just checked my queue and "Raging Bull" is number 3 on my list. Looks like I'll be checking out some animated nursery rhymes soon.
