Congratulations are in order for Wisconsin and the Big 10. They definitely outplayed Duke last night. Good job! Also, that is a ridiculous record they have for home games.

/UNC_Samurai :: UNC is a much better team than Duke so that should be no surprise, plus Wake is very unreliable and you know what they say about NC State...

I don't really care that the ACC lost for the first time ever in this silly challenge. UNC won and Duke lost within a span of 2 nights, I'm a happy camper.

What a great night! My Illini pulled one out of their proverbial rectum (rectums?), and Duke lost. I'm pretty happy with Bruce Weber, but if the Big Ten said tomorrow that we HAVE to swap coaches...give me Bo Ryan.

Bite me, you sycophant. Duke is going to lose games now and then. They are still the best perennial team in the country. I never cared about college basketball until Fark made me a Duke fan.

Also, Drew still doesn't like you, subby.

NC State (lost to Northwestern) and Clemson (blew a 23-point lead in the second half) were the real goats of the Challenge.

As for Duke, this really is more of the same from the previous couple of seasons. Singler and Dawkins (usually it's Scheyer) kept Duke in the game for the most part. However, 3 out of 4 Duke big men (Singler counts as a SF) were held scoreless (6 points on 3-8 shooting in 62 minutes combined). Yes, that's a shot every 7.75 minutes from the post. Coach K, if you're wondering why the likes of Greg Monroe and Patrick Patterson didn't choose Duke, there's your answer.

Considering the Big Ten came into this with two absolutely guaranteed losses (Iowa and Indiana are hideously bad), winning it is impressive. Especially since Michigan completely forgot how to shoot and play defense for the last week or so. Ugh.

If it wasn't for Dawkins, Duke would have lost by 10+.

I am hoping the same Tar Heels team shows up against Kentucky!

You're a die hard UNC fan and you actually wanted Duke to win something? Gah. The ACC/Big 10 challenge matters nothing compared to final ACC standings, or how well you do in the tournament!

Don't sleep on NW this year. There was a lot of talk of them making the NCAAs before a couple of injuries to key players. But the nice thing about NW is that there really isn't much difference between the talent of your key players and the bench guys who replace them.

I know, it's shameful, but as far as I'm concerned, the college basketball priorities look like this:

1) UNC
2) Kansas
3) Almost anyone else in the ACC
4) Everyone Else
5) Duke

And when Duke lost last night, they made everyone else in the ACC look bad. Now we have to put up with even MORE "rebuilding season" and "parity" crap than last year, and more sportscasters that can't figure out that having 7 or 8 of 12 teams ranked is better than having 9 of 16 teams ranked.

So if I am to understand this correctly:

Diversity = More black people on the court of a sport played overwhelmingly by black people at the collegiate and professional level

Exactly so it shouldn't matter if you cheer for your rival during a conference v conference tournament. As a diehard Duke fan I cheered for UNC and watched the game against Michigan State. The better the conference does the more we can brag about how much better we are than others, which is a lot of fun. As long as UNC is not playing another ACC team I cheer for them (like this saturday vs. Kentucky). But then again I grew up in a house hold that was predominantly Wake Forest fans and they have to learn to cheer like that since whenever they get NBA caliber prospects, they have crap to surround them with.

/the better the ACC the more televised games, more televised games = better recruits

moistD: As long as UNC is not playing another ACC team I cheer for them (like this saturday vs. Kentucky).

Yeah, but in the case of this weekend, hatred of UNC is very closely followed by hatred of Kentucky. The only positive outcome would be a meteor landing on the arena. (Of course, I don't want anyone to get injured).

Duke has a lot to work on but fortunately it's still early.

First on that list should be the pathetic face Scheyer makes when he's all emo. He could be the model for a bad anime character when he does that.

haha I hate UCONN more, and Florida. 1) UCONN has been a thorn in Duke's NCAA side for a while now. 2) Florida took away the glory of being the only team since UCLA to repeat as champions.
close is Michigan State, Duke fails against them constantly in the big dance, I always fear them, a lot of big 10 teams actually.

Next year should be fun when Nolan Smith isn't our starting point guard and Kyrie Irving is

2009-12-03 02:17:30 PM
I'm not shocked that Duke's "big men" couldn't hold it together. Since the days of Boozer/Williams, Duke hasn't had an interior. Zoubek doesn't count. Good GOD what a slug. Plumlee (now that is 100% a Duke name) is athletic, but not much of a presence that Duke needs.

Gonna be another disappointing year for Duke. Singler, however, is a star, and the Dawkins kid shows some promise.

But I'm more shocked that the Big Ten teams last night scored more than 50 total points.
