I think the Patriots proved going undefeated doesn't mean squat. if you don't win the SB you look like dumbasses. If the colts were smart, they'd play their starters just a bit once home field is locked up, just enough to keep 'em fresh but not let the rust set in.

If it's within one score and vince young gets the last possession of the game, the colts will lose. The question is, will the game be close enough for VY to work his magic at the end of the game.

One game winning drive does not a career make.

probably the only team in the NFL that wouldn't go for the perfect season.

It won't happen. But how epic would it be to have an undefeated Colts team playing an undefeated Saints team?

Then again, they hype would be unbearable. (But still better than if it were Giants vs. Colts - Manning Vs. Manning - ugh you couldn't have the sound on watching that one).

The hype would be negated by the look of Mercury Morris having to drink a nice hot cup of STFU for the two week run-up.

Personally as a life long Colts fan I would love to see them keep the pedal to the medal. Not for the perfect record, but for the fact that in the past, resting has really hindered our rthym as a football team in the playoffs.

/damn you big ben
/fark the chargers too

Especially the Chargers.

No team averaging less than 90 yards rushing a game (87.6, 2nd worst in the NFL right now, ahead of only Chicago) will go undefeated. It's just not going to happen, eventually Peyton will have an off day or some team will just play dime the whole game and they'll lose. Interesting to note that the Broncos and Jets are both Top 5 in the league in pass defense right now, and even the Bills are 7th overall.

And before you ask, the '07 Pats averaged 115 rushing yards per game (along with 17 rushing TD's)

No kidding. How many times have we seen this scenario? If memory serves correct, on our SB run we played hard right through the end of the season, didnt rest on our laurels. Colts need to keep playing, more so to get a rhythm before the playoffs. we're winning, but not looking top notch in my book.

/all its moot if the bowl is won though

God you're right though. Superbowls can't end in a tie after all: All those damn '72 bastards would just have to eat it for two solid weeks.

Buffalo will defeat Indy on Week 17. The Colts will be starting their second string, having already secured a playoff spot and the Bills will be playing for their coach.

Won't happen...Titans will beat them this weekend.

Complaining about the '72 Dolphins has been infinitely more annoying than the actual Dolphins, who are not seen nearly as often as people make them out to be, since 2007.

Colts should look at history.
Pats and last years Titans.
Screw the regular season record and focus on the championship.

2009-12-03 10:55:56 AM
Right, the guy who used to cover the Titans is saying that the Colts will lose...

2009-12-03 10:57:18 AM
Also the news is that Colts will be experimenting with the Wildcat and putting Peyton as a slot receiver running the quick slant. I mean what could go wrong with a low risk plan like that.

2009-12-03 11:05:34 AM
If either Colts or Saints go 15-0, they will probably have home field advantage, brag about how they don't care about being perfect, rest all their starters in the last game, and win out anyway. On the other hand, if they go into the playoffs at 16-0, you will no longer hear a single breath about how unimportant perfection is. They will have blood in their eye then, you betcha.

Agreed. I never see the actual '72 dolphins anymore... until I'm pointed there repeatedly by someone whining about them.

True, but last year the Titans were the last team to lose in like Week 12, which is just on the outer edge of "OK, here comes the hype" territory. And '07 Pats certainly did shut the '72 Dolphins up somewhat, but I promise you they'll still be flapping their gums about "Undefeated season and Super Bowl win" if the Saints and Colts go into their respective championship games undefeated.

Like you wouldn't. I just don't think we'd notice it if not for the complaining.

I have no problems with the rest of the team. It's just Mercury Morris. Who wasn't even the best running back on that team.

I would normally agree with you, but with the number of injuries that the team has this year a little layoff may not be a bad thing.

Momentum going into the playoffs is overrated? Really?
Hmmm, look at the Colt's record the last seven years. Every year they won the division early and coasted the last couple games and rested starters, they were upset in the playoffs. The only year they won they had to keep playing right up until the end. You'd think Polian would know that better than anyone.

I hate the Colts, but I hate that undefeated Miami Dolphins team even more so that Superbowl scenario would be win-win

The problem here, of course, is that the Colts have an obscene number of starters on the injury report. Where I've noticed most teams achieve an odd sort of equilibrium (returners and new casualties) -- the Colts just seem to keep adding more to the stack with each progressive game. For this year, at the very least, if the Colts DON'T rest, they'll lack any effective players for the play-offs.

So the question is: Does momentum trump 1/3rd of the your team being injured? I lean towards "no".

Does it trump it with that kind of history attached, though? I don't know, but I think I'd lean towards keep playing. Can't keep banging your head against that wall.

The Colts won't go undefeated or win the superbowl because they are not the best team in the league. Not that being the best team guarantees anything in a one&done playoff system.

There are defenses in the league that can contain (not stop) the Colts.
Garcon is a 3rd WR playing in a #2 role.
Addai & Brown ain't much of a ground attack.
Indy's defense & special teams are hardly smothering.

I expect to see them losing in the AFC Championship or SB.

I don't think you've watched a single Colts game this season.

I think the Saints would have a better chance than the Colts of going 16-0, mainly because the Colts don't currently have a 1-loss team nipping at their heels for home field advantage. Saints might have to run the table just to not have to go to the Metrodome for the AFC Championship.
