Fark baseball players. Fark Bud Selig. Failing a test should be a lifetime ban. An independent doctor can assess you for ADHD, the latest in a long line of overdiagnosed conditions. Don't have ADHD? Get the fark out. Baseball needs a commissioner with some stones.

no, fark MLB for having a stupid "anti-stimulant" policy.

You sound impotent and blind with rage.

Doctors have differing opinions all the time. Boy, it sure isn't going to look questionable if he says one guy needs the medicine legitimately and another doesn't, and therefore must be banned for life. Hell yeah, let's have the baseball season decided not on the field, but by doctors!

Why not? It's decided by doctors now - you think A-Rod's doctor isn't going to give him a note saying he has ADHD so he can get an exemption?

The MLB should either adopt a strict policy or drop the rules against it entirely. The current policy is just hand waving and everyone knows it. You mean to tell me only one player in all of MLB used steroids last year? Yeah right.

No, only they're telling you only one player tested positive for steroids.

They SHOULD drop it entirely. The whole anger over steroid use is overblown and stupid.

They can't because of the 'think of the children' crowd.
I don't consider the steroid issue to be a big deal. Yes, I voted for the Bonds ball to be asterisked because I believe it is important that future generations know the parameters through which the feat was attained. Do I think it cheapens the record? Not entirely, but it is important to note that use of performance enhancers are indicative of the era.

All that said, I do think the MLB's efforts are kinda half-assed and since for image's sake they can't drop the rules, the only alternative is to be more comprehensive.

Absolutely. You know, I don't care that Barry Bonds took steroids. I know it, he knows it, Selig knows it, the entirety of planet earth knows it. What I think is retarded is his insistence that he did not. Obviously it means a lot to him that his record be viewed as though he accomplished it naturally - his denial is basically an admission that he knows using steroids is cheating. I'm just tired of MLB saying steroids is bad, we don't allow steroids no sir! All the while Selig and the owners draft new loopholes for steroids.

If its cheating, as Bonds and Selig seem to think, then do something about it. If it isn't cheating, then just let everyone do it. Hell, require everyone do it.

Sure, you could argue that, but if nothing else it's a liability issue. The fact is they are illegal. Do you doubt that players will sue the league if they get old and start having health problems? They'll claim they wouldn't have taken them if baseball had a tougher policy and didn't look the other way. Now if they were legal that would be a different case.

For amphetemines. Not steroids.

Same problem and "solution," different shiat. In 2006, 28 players had TUEs. Then Ritalin and Adderall get on the banned list the next season and now 103 players get TUEs. ADHD is diagnosed in 3-5% of children and 1-3.5% of adults. Baseball players? 8%. The only conclusion here is that ADHD is contagious.

Sensationalist headline is sensationalist. There were 2 more players given the (still bullshiat) ADHD exemption than last year.

The article is ambiguous on this point. Is it two new exceptions increasing the total to 108? Is it 108 new exceptions? Are excemptions renewed annually? Are they in perpetuity? I dunno. The article doesn't say.

FTA: "Baseball granted 108 therapeutic use exemptions for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder during the year ending with this World Series, according to the annual report released Tuesday by MLB's independent drug-testing administrator. That was up from 106 a year earlier and 103 in 2007."

Another possible conclusion is that children with ADHD are more likely to play sports and be really good at them. I'm not saying I totally believe this accounts for a 6% difference, but I think it holds some weight.

=============================================

It still doesn't say whether or not they're renewed. I assume they are. Which simply means 2 more people got it this year. (Maybe a few more if a couple people didn't renew)

Whoop-de-doo.

Hey, if it's safe and effective for an eight-year-old it's gotta be OK for adults in the MLB, right? Right?

FTFA: Other than ADHD, there were just seven TUEs: two each for hypertension and hypogonadism,

Hypogonadism: is a medical term for a defect of the gonads[1] that results in the underproduction of testosterone. (Wiki)

And what's the treatment for Hypogonadism? You guessed it, Testosterone replacement. Whoever got diagnosed with hypogonadism is the luckiest player in MLB, he's taking steroids legally.

Tranlations:

"These TUEs are based on diagnoses that originally are made by a doctor

The team doctor makes the diagnosis we tell him to.

and they are reviewed by one if not more doctors

In practice, the diagnoses aren't reviewed at all, you know, people are busy.

"And I've got to rely on the medical people."

That's our story and we're sticking to it.

Good luck winning that lawsuit. "I did something illegal but it's your fault for not punishing me in addition to the law". Where on Earth would that work?

Hey, let's go shoot ourselves in a building then sue the owners of the building for not preventing us from bringing a gun in!

/hey, it's a case for Plaxico!

I used Adderall for a few years a decade ago when I was also an avid Disc Golfer. There was an enormous advantage in throwing my projectile while "on." I remember being able to really "feel" the disc with my fingertips as I released it and had many fewer problems with footwork and balance.

The heart palpitations and mild hallucinations when tired were merely some side effects, but boy could I concentrate!

/better player now, though, because my techniques are less flawed...

The whole diagnostic process for ADHD is bullshiat. You stare at a computer screen for 10 minutes and are supposed to click the mouse whenever you see a white dot flash on the black screen...just slightly open to manipulation. Believe me, I did it. The psych who diagnosed me only cared about his $500 check, and if you will pay it he will give you a bs report saying you need x amount of adderall daily no matter who you are. I took it before every lacrosse and football game in high school and felt like LT out on the field. It helps a ton.

/also my GPA thanks me for my corruption

This is bullshiat. Baseball is so farking boring that any player with ADD or ADHD or whatever would be climbing the walls looking for squirrels or riding a bike long before the first batter was done at the plate.

Like anything else, it's not boring if you are into it. Except golf. Golf is BORING to watch.

Allow every drug. I just want to see homers. Let the team with the most drugs win.
