Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish! Not like going down to the pond and chasing bluegills and tommycocks. This shark, swallow you whole. No shakin', no tenderizin', down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant! I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing. The thing about a shark, it's got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes. When it comes at you it doesn't seem to be livin'... until he bites you, and those black eyes roll over white.

Witnesses to the event were sure the dog was gone, when several people saw L.L.Cool J leap into the water suddenly rescuing the doomed canine. The popular rap and television star is reported as saying, "I figured I could save him. After all, my head is like a shark fin."

I rarely resort to web acronyms, but may I be the first to voice WTF????

bomb sniffing dolphins, shark killing is a sign of the apocolypse.

A friends' dog saved me and him from 2 mean-ass dogs when we were about 10. Two big dogs came out of nowhere and trapped us up against the side of the 7-11. They were going to bite the shiat out of us, no doubt. Rinnie came flying out of my friends' yard like a missle and jumped right on the bigger one's back allowing us to regroup and not even get bit. He distracted them so much that we were able to get clean kicks in on them until they ran away. That may have been the bravest single thing I've ever seen an animal do in my entire life. Rinnie had steak every day after that.
Sorry, but that story just brought back that memory. Old Rinnie.....

Hm. I think the owners need a pet psychologist. Doesn't this dog know that was dangerous? Maybe he's suicidal.

Cool. I see a made for TV movie coming. "Bosco Saves the Day."

"Dog saves dog in Australian shark attack"

Why do I have the feeling that instead of sending soldiers to the Gulf War, Austrailia should have sent some dogs ? War would've been done by now.

2003-03-27 03:12:23 PM
must have confused it with a catfish.

Dogs are awesome.

Dogs are so much cooler than cats.

My dog probably would have tried to lick the shark, or hump it.

Good doggie!

Where my dogs at?
2003-03-27 03:16:07 PM
Why am I having trouble believing this story?

A 6.5 foot shark does not leave a dog "unscathed."
2003-03-27 03:16:42 PM
Pretty brave of the second dog to offer itself up as the next meal for the shark...
2003-03-27 03:17:03 PM
Don't fark with tha dogg, biatch.

Hero tag for the dog. A 6.5' shark not doing some damage? That's a little hard to believe.
2003-03-27 03:19:16 PM
Does anyone know the breed of the Japanese dog that can fight bears?
2003-03-27 03:20:30 PM
If it saved the other dog how come the sharks mouth is dripping with blood? Probably a file photo anyways. A little off topic but who wants to see a movie based on the U.S.S. Indianapolis also known as the boat quint was on in WWII
2003-03-27 03:20:34 PM
The sharks around western Australia are wussies , it's the east coast sharks that do the dammage - - -
Good for the dogs ! Must of been in heat - -
2003-03-27 03:20:51 PM
Says it pulled the first dog underwater. Sharks don't have hands, only thing it could use to do so is TEETH.

Dog is unscathed? Not bleeding to death? Not short a leg?

No way.
2003-03-27 03:21:13 PM
throw dowm BIATCH!!

A 6.5 foot shark does not leave a dog "unscathed."

I was thinking the same thing. I dunno, if it long thick fur, plus it was wet, it might offer pretty good protection.

Or maybe the shark tasted nasty stink dog and didn't bite down.

[image from too old to be available] dog would have been pretty useless
2003-03-27 03:22:50 PM
What the article doesn't mention is that it was a couple of wiener dogs.
2003-03-27 03:23:30 PM
Good Dog! I love dogs. That is all I have to say.

Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war
2003-03-27 03:28:01 PM
And now you know why I'm a dog person, and not a cat person.

If the couple would have been out walking their cats (which never would happen) and one of their cats was swimming in the ocean (not that either), and it was drug under by a shark, the other cat would have yawned and taken a nap.

Fido saves the day.

Bummer: You might be thinking of the Karelian Bear Dog, but it's not Japanese, it's Russian, I think. Badass dogs, not very big though. And they don't so much fight bears as distract them. I had one, before, smartest goddamned dog I ever owned. A real strong one, too. Not big, but thick, heavy and solid. I miss that dog. :(
2003-03-27 03:28:18 PM
That shark would never have been able to stand up to the merciless onslaught of my dog's stretching, yawning, and returning to sleep.
2003-03-27 03:28:19 PM
Sweet. I wish it was caught on video. Then they'd put it on the next "When animals attack" show and we could watch said dog whoop shark ass.
2003-03-27 03:31:20 PM
Just one more reason why dogs rock. I love my dogs more than most people, and I think they're better than people in many ways, including this one: bravery, loyalty, honesty, they're humble, etc.

Near this spot
Are deposited the Remains of one
Who possessed Beauty
Without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
And all the Virtues of Man
Without his Vices.
This Praise, which would be unmeaning flattery
If inscribed over Human Ashes,
Is but a just tribute to the Memory of "Boatswain," a Dog
Who was born at Newfoundland,
May, 1803,
And died at Newstead Abbey
Nov. 18, 1808.

Bummer The Akita was originally developed to hunt bears in Japan. Neat Dogs, but I don't trust 'em.

[image from too old to be available] They're HUGE
2003-03-27 03:37:15 PM
Akitas remind me of chows, kind of inscrutable.

I had a chow go at me once, didn't bark or growl or anything, just attacked. I didn't run or back off and luckily it had second thoughts.

I like a dog that growls before it bites you. Rotties are good about that, they give you warning that they will soon be biting out your throat.

My dog is pretty dopey most of the time. Once when I was younger and weighed a little less than her(140ish) I put her through a little test. I buried myself in the snow and didn't move. She barked at me for a minute, pushed at me with her head, and when i didn't respond she pulled me out of the snow to expose my face(I guess she thought I couldn't breathe). She then ran to the house and made my mom come out to me. Hard to believe it's the same dog that ran into the rear view mirror on my car fulled speed while I was going the opposite direction at about 20mph and bent the mirror back without even stopping. Guess when the instincts kick in they know what to do.
