Iran used to be more ambiguous and not such a straight up bad guy, but since the blatantly stolen election failed to fool anyone with half a brain the Iranian rulers have become completely shameless in their use of torture, murder and rape to silence dissent. The hardline Revolutionary Guards are in charge now and are obviously prepared to do anything to keep power.
The sad thing is they're probably right, it's when unelected governments ease off the repression that they fall; No regime was ever deposed by being too brutal.
