Old joke not funny.

Gustavsson was taken to the hospital as a precaution with an elevated heart rate following the first period of Toronto's 3-0 victory over the Canadiens last night in Montreal.

No wonder he had an elevated heart rate - the Leafs had a 2-0 lead at that point. Poor kid probably isn't used to that kind of pressure.

He was probably excited that they actually had a lead.

Gustavsson is playing remarkably well. The joke's mildly clever, but it doesn't make any sense.

Also, why link to the Boston Globe for a story about a Leaf's goalie getting sick in Montreal?

Boston is extremely interested in their performance. The worse they do, the better pick we get!

/ Don't wish that condition on anyone. My girlfriend's father went through that for years before he had an operation to correct it.

See, that's the kinda reference that would have slayed me on the headline. The fact Beantown is going to finish high, get a top 3 pick and pay him an entry contract for 3 years and avoid their salary cap issues is just nuts. Great GM-ing by SeaBass, but just nuts.

So how long is it going to take before they shut down this guy.
After all you can't have a player have a heart attack on the ice.
Why risk it?

And also in the event of this happening does the league have some sort of contigency where the players contract wont go against the cap in the event of a career ending illness or injury?

Ah, the oldest joke in hockey.

I would have also accepted:
- he needed to treat the red light burn on the back of his neck
- has trouble finding Fark because he can't put three W's together
- like a woman, he always removes his pads after a period

They're still only 5 points behind the Leafs.

If the leafs keep playing the way they have been, you might be waiting a long time. Since the terrible 0-7-1 start, they've actually been a .500 team.

Not good enough for the playoffs, but you're probably looking at 7-10th overall.

Thanks for Kessel, by the way. He's been by far and away the best Leaf player so far.

/Glad you're enjoying Kessel. You won't like him as much when he becomes a locker room distraction and/or gets injured and sits out 2 months.

"I just came here to say that Brian Burke is the smartest man in hockey."

If only for the reason that he deceived EVERYONE into thinking that the Leafs may not be so bad this year. Wasn't this supposed to be a total rebuild that would re-stabilize the franchise?

Still, as a Sabres fan, I'm happy they're in the bottom of the league (2nd worse currently) but it's like making fun of a retarded kid- the Leafs can't help themselves.

Ovechkin says suspension might get him more angry

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=300791

Ok, whatever there Hulk.

Angry that you have to be accountable for your reckless actions and that you are measured by the same standard as 4th line goons?

Ovechkin has always come off as a petulant child. His reaction to this situation reaffirms it.

Gutless punk. It will be nice seeing him end a career with no Stanley Cup.

I'm thinking that if Ovechkin keeps playing the way he does, someone's going to end his career with an elbow to the head way before he ever gets a chance.

You can only go around injuring players on other teams with dirty play for so long before someone starts to take serious exception to it.

Agreed.

I'm hoping it's Sid that takes Ovie out for good. That would be hilarious.

Sad but true. Most people were always hoping to see Ovechkin take a big, clean, open ice hit and get set straight. Now it's more likley someone will give him the Full Filitov.

Old joke not funny.

I beg to differ.... I lol'ed then burst into tears because all Toronto sports teams are wretched and pathetic. And the Leafs are the first float in the parade of futlity.
