I can't tell what my reaction would be if hit in the face by a shoe during a press conference. Of course, this first supposes that I was having a press conference in the first place. I don't know why I'd be having a press conference - I don't really have anything special or important to say, and no information to bring to the public. Let's see... Well, I had leftovers last night. No, too mundane. Maybe because I've decided to buy a new watch? No, too narrow for the public interest. I know! The other day, there was a marching band going down my street in a parade, playing "September" by Earth, Wind, And Fire, and I thought that it was really inappropriate since it was November. There we go.

So, I'm having a press conference criticizing the local high school marching band for playing a seasonally inappropriate song, and someone throws a shoe at me.

Well, maybe not a shoe. This is New England, and this time of year people start wearing boots and whatnot. So maybe I should be hit in the face by a boot. But, then again, it hasn't snowed appreciably here yet, so people probably won't be wearing boots. I mean, they could just making sure they're prepared, so I guess it is possible. But more than likely it would be a regular shoe. But men's or ladies'? Given the incidents so far, it seems to be mostly men. But, given the law of averages wouldn't a woman be due to throw her shoe now? Then again, ladies' shoes can be kind of expensive, so I don't know if a woman would be willing to throw something she might never get back, because that would mean she would have a unmatched shoe in her closet that goes perfectly with that one dress she likes, and you know she won't let that happen. So, more than likely it's going to be a man.

So, a man throws a shoe at me during my press conference to criticize the local high school marching band for playing a seasonally inappropriate song.

There's also the timing of said shoe-throwing. That would factor greatly into my reaction, I think. I mean if I walked into the lobby of the local Hampton Inn (where my press conference is being held), sat down, and promptly was hit in the face with a shoe, I think I'd be relieved as the worst thing that could have happened has now happened, and the rest of the press conference could have gone off without a hitch. The shoe-thrower could also time the throw according to what I say in the press conference, hurling it at the utterance of any shoe-related metaphors or idiom ("The shoe's on the other foot now" or "Squeaks like a new pair of shoes"). That would probably produce an amused reaction from me, and bit of silent approval because Lord knows I like a well timed joke. Of course, they could also wait until the end of the conference, in order to make a statement, when I ask "Any Questions?" in which case I would be a little bit perturbed because this person obviously waited for the whole press conference, planning this the whole time. And ignoring everything that was being said during the press conference, as that might sway their shoe-throwing resolve ("He's not such a bad guy after all... Maybe I won't throw a shoe at him"). Therefore I'd be angry that they didn't listen. I think this is the most likely scenario because I'm an optomist, and I believe that the person throwing the shoe would at least have the sense of decorum to let me make my full statement.
