I think Detroit would welcome back Barry Sanders first.

"He was very kind person, very generous, very cooperative with the West. Lately, what's happened, I don't know," Yasso, 70, said Wednesday. "Money and power changed the person."

lately?

2003-03-26 06:09:39 PM
Does this mean we're getting a flame war?

Mayor Coleman Young-- go figure. He was such a shiathead-- one of the main reasons Detroit still looks like Baghdad...

2003-03-26 06:11:07 PM
Yeah, and Mumia's an honorary citizen of Paris. Anyone could get that kind of gift, all they have to do is look important.

Harmonia was there, cheering him on at the time.

2003-03-26 06:11:39 PM
Saddam sold that shiat on ebay already I'm sure.

2003-03-26 06:11:40 PM
Yeah, our country loved the guy back in the day, and we financed his war on Iran in which he used chemical weapons freely and without remorse. His incident of using them against the kurds was part of that war as the iranians were present in the kurdish town he gassed to death.

Weve all been misled.

2003-03-26 06:12:10 PM
So let's just nuke Detroit after we get through with Iraq.

2003-03-26 06:12:30 PM
So is this why downtown Detroit looks like Baghdad?

2003-03-26 06:12:58 PM
Wow! "Boobies" turns to "Boobies".

Now I know and knowing is half the battle.

2003-03-26 06:13:00 PM
Apart from all the sand is there that big a difference between Detroid and Baghdad? They're both filled with burned out, gutted buildings and people shooting firearms.

Something tells me he's getting it shoved up his arse right about now...

Glideslope:We must liberate Detroit!!

...might be hard, Detroit's got better weapons than Iraq, and more practice...

Here is the church he donated to and here

I feel sorry for the people of Iraq...it's like the world being pissed at Bush and bombing around DC. Do you know how many people live around DC?

Hopefully we can cut the head off the snake without hurting too many civilians, and keeping our troops as safe as possible.

I just want this to be over....

2003-03-26 06:14:00 PM
I wonder if Saddam's old buddy Rumsfeld was at the presentation ceremony:

Lightswitch: Tell me that was sarcasm. We helped him about one billionth as much as countries like France, Germany and Russia. And he was never a friend, just a necessary evil.

2003-03-26 06:17:07 PM
KPAR90, how may keys did france ,germany, etc give to sadam?

2003-03-26 06:21:48 PM
TwinBrother: They "sold" weapons. I forgot who posted the relative amount of support received by Iraq doring the 70's and 80's, but it was informative. The US was the smallest contributor to their ability to fight Iran, or us. You can in no way say that we funded him when you've seen the numbers. Did Rumsfeld meet him? Sure, but he had less than glowing reports for Reagan. And any of that support is so far remopved from his capabilities today. His army flies Migs and shoots AK-47s. That alone should tell you where he got his weapons from.

2003-03-26 06:22:02 PM
Right now, Saddam is hiding in a bunker, with bombs, raging fires and gunfire overhead in the darkness above, electricity fading in and out, supplies running short, chaos and uncertainty in the streets, and he's turning to those around him and saying, "Is it just me, or does this remind anyone else of that trip we took to Detroit?"

That's a great idea!!
Send Saddam to Detroit and he'll be history in about 4 hours.
East L.A. would be my first choice though.

Me and Eminem hung out in the Motor City. Then The Nuge stopped by, and we all smoked some fat blunts and ate wild buffalo. I miss that USA...

It's not a suprise, if you consider that this happened during one of Mayor Coleman Young's noted cocaine binges.

Young makes Marion Barry look like Colin Powell.

2003-03-26 06:32:15 PM
Q: How do we know Saddam has chemical weapons?
A: We saved a copy of the receipt (when we sold them to him).

I don't think Lightswitch was being sarcastic. The U.S. government had a lot of very, very shady "friends" when we were fighting duly-notarized Bad Guys like the Commies and Iran. OBL and others were trained to be terrorists by the U.S. because they were fighting Commies in Afghanistan. Saddam got quite a bit of U.S. support in the war against Iran right after the whole hostage thing. Call me crazy, but perhaps we might take a foreign policy lesson: not everyone who has an enemy in common with us should be treated as an ally.

Discliamer: I'm *NOT* saying these things justify the actions of Saddam or OBL; both are legit Bad Guys and deserve to be taken out. But the fact remains we helped make them both.

Oh, and HaNaGaijin has it right: Liberating Detroit would indeed be pretty rough.

(or was it Chicago?.. crap, I'm old and can't remember didily)

2003-03-26 06:35:25 PM
Well, if that's the case, they had better change the locks.

2003-03-26 06:36:09 PM
Why does this seem logical?
