2003-03-26 05:56:43 PM
I'm proud to have had such an exemplary statesman and human being serve my state for 24 years. May his life serve as an inspiration to us all.

2003-03-26 05:57:51 PM

Is there a scholarship fund set up yet?

2003-03-26 05:57:54 PM

2003-03-26 05:59:01 PM
bummer.

2003-03-26 05:59:16 PM
He used to be a professor here at Syracuse. Jeez, I think he only even went to the hospital around St. Patrick's Day.

/lifts glass

2003-03-26 05:59:35 PM
Very sad.

May his spirit live to see the peace he was born to bring.

Say what you will, he was a pretty good guy.

2003-03-26 06:02:20 PM
Appendixes suck. Humans really shouldn't have them.

2003-03-26 06:03:52 PM
Sad. He was one of our best statesmen in recent memory.

2003-03-26 06:04:17 PM
I keep forgetting - was he Hardcastle or McCormick?

2003-03-26 06:05:15 PM
I am evil, but that guy was not.

2003-03-26 06:05:39 PM
As someone said somewhere at sometime (I forget who/where/when)...
I don't trust any organ whose only job is to blow up and kill me.

Maybe no one said that but me actually....
/wanders away confused

2003-03-26 06:06:16 PM
He was truly one of the good ones.

2003-03-26 06:07:45 PM
Shouldn't that be "appendices?"

2003-03-26 06:07:47 PM
Most people do...

2003-03-26 06:08:11 PM
Damn, to die and have Hillary Clinton of all people announce your death. It's a farking travesty, man.

2003-03-26 06:08:13 PM
He was a class act....rest in peace.

2003-03-26 06:08:55 PM
"Moynihan had been hospitalized earlier this month and developed an infection after his appendix burst"

Ok it's not like your appendix is fine and then just explodes, you feel the pain before-hand when pressure is applied over the appendix, probably another case for doctor malpractice suit.

Doctors have historically sucked at detecting an infected appenditx, and makes no sense since it is very easy to diagnois, I in fact diagnosed myself when I was a child. Doctor had the balls to say I was wrong too, showed him though!

He was brilliant! A bit too liberal for me but one with whom debate could be a daunting yet thrilling experience. Certainly a great American; a great human being filled with humor and kindness.

2003-03-26 06:11:13 PM
Little bit of a surprise. Doesn't seem like he should've died by now. Sucks.

His last name is fun to say.

Ohhhhhhh kay?

2003-03-26 06:16:14 PM
Man, what a crappy day. I met the Senator a couple times. Stand up guy. He will be missed.

2003-03-26 06:21:58 PM
Man that is sad. Having Hillary Clinton announce your death to the masses.

2003-03-26 06:25:23 PM
-go in peace.

2003-03-26 06:34:37 PM
I was wondering if we can have more insults towards Hillary..those never get tiresome.

2003-03-26 06:38:56 PM
How long will it be before that old UL about everyone around the Clintons is ending up dead is brought up.

Oh.

2003-03-26 06:40:05 PM
Datmanfoo can't name more than 9.5 states? I never would have expected!

2003-03-26 06:43:47 PM
Respect to Moynihan -- I've lived in NY for eleven years (CT before that) and knew him to be a man of integrity and intelligence for over half my life.

I'd say "he'll be missed" but it's an understatement. He already HAS been missed since he left politics.

R.I.P.

Senator Moynihan was a brilliant, dignified, dedicated public servant. The Times obit will have a fitting description of his legacay, but I just want to point out that the man dedicated his entire adult life (various positions over 45 years) to public service, starting in the days when public service was widely believed to be an honorable way to live a life.

IMO, it still is, and Moynihan is an example of why.

2003-03-26 06:51:15 PM
Damn...I grew up with Moynihan and D'Amato being my senators for what felt like forever. He served our state well.

And I'm pretty sure Hillary delivered the news rather than Schumer because she was his successor.

New York politics is a funny thing...unless Hill or Chuck accept a different position, expect them to get re-elected for the forseeable future. Don't think that because Pataki won again, and Bloomberg won, that we've gone neoconservative...Pataki's pretty moderate, and Bloomberg will never get re-elected again because he's more concerned with actually being a good mayor than being a self-serving politician. I would have taken two terms of Bloomberg over two terms of Guiliani any day...

I read an extensive interview with him a number of years ago. I didn't really know who he was until then, other than the name was familiar. Really impressed me. I wondered why he didn't run for president when he was younger.

2003-03-26 06:55:44 PM
I concur on Moynihan - he was a true statesman and a dedicated lawmaker. A positive force. I am saying this from California and from the 'other side of the aisle.'

Wish there were more like him in both parties.

/tips hat, lifts glass

And in his office today, it's rumored that Strom Thurmond was shouting and laughing, dancing awkwardly along in his wheelchair to Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust."

...i'm sorry, I had to.

2003-03-26 07:01:23 PM
Probably didn't run for president because he was so smart. Remember anyone who actually shows any interest whatsoever in being president should not, under any circumstances, be allowed to hold the office.

He was a brilliant man. An intellectual who thought through the issues and came to his own conclusions. Rather than jumping on some jingoistic crusade for, or against, matters based on slogans.

Did that come out right?

2003-03-26 07:18:54 PM
That's awful news. He was an honest, honorable man, and I am proud that he came from my state. Godspeed, Senator.

2003-03-26 07:27:01 PM
Wow, an old person who dies from something other than a broken hip...

2003-03-26 07:41:31 PM
Good night funny man.

2003-03-26 07:41:49 PM
By praising this great man, then insulting his hand-picked successor in the same breath, you both insult his memory and out yourself as a total prick.

2003-03-26 07:45:50 PM
Too bad. He was rare blend of great intelligence and integrity. Made even more rare by the fact he was a politician! Don't have that very often.

2003-03-26 07:52:08 PM
Aww man. Moynihan was a great man.

2003-03-26 08:09:57 PM
Greatest Democrat Senator of the 20th Century.. hands down. I'm Converative and he was the only one whose contrary opinion I could respect because you could be sure he truly gave serious consideration to the issue... and it made you think seriously about your own position.

A statesman who clearly met the ideal of the Founding Fathers... and Irish to boot!

2003-03-26 08:27:38 PM
A truly respectable liberal Senator. The real is that he was replaced by a truly contemptible liberal Senator.
