The article leads with three examples.

Call 1: Sexual assault and child pornography. I would say forward that one to the police, except the call came from the police. So the police know. The molestor was not a family member so DCF is not needed. Lock up the babysitter and her boyfriend, problem solved.

Call 2: Can't tell if it's serious or not.

Call 3: Another routine police matter, this one urgent. Lock up the father, problem solved. What is DCF going to do? Take the kids away from the mother because the estranged husband wants to kill them?

I take it you didn't read all three pages of the article.

I'm too sober for all the long words in this headline, but here's hoping I can make sense of the article.

Children would be better raised in communal creches.

2009-11-29 10:15:36 PM
Those children would not be sexual abused if they were not prancing around asking for it...

There's an app a handgun for that.

What can you expect from the agency that's actually misplaced almost 400 children.

Yes, but what is the cartoon bear reaction to this? Approve or disapprove?

In the past DCF has been far too willing to stick their noses in where it doesn't belong based on frivolous information and waste their time on nothing instead of following up on legitimate causes. It's about time they put down the torches and pitchforks and asked themselves if the problem being presented to them fell under their jurisdiction.

It's more likely they're only interested in easy cases like sending parents to prison for holding their child's hand.

It sounds like the real problem lays in the legislature not giving them enough money to do the job. I've seen that sort of garbage from other branches of the government:

Immigration, many years ago: Too many calls--if you're on hold more than 5 minutes it disconnects you.

Social Security: It's impossible to call the local office. No line to a human exists--anything that should lead to one either kicks you back into the menu or hangs up on you. The national office says there is no appointment available with any office within the metropolitan area--I didn't check beyond that as it's two hours to the next place that could possibly have an office.

2009-11-29 10:38:38 PM
Also, how did the case worker get away with refusing an order from a deputy?

2009-11-29 10:41:02 PM
I suppose if you kill off enough kids the problem will be solved, but I don't think that's the best way to go, personally...

FTA:

In July, 1-year-old Bryce Barros was beaten to death after a Broward County domestic violence judge, Eileen O'Connor, sent three faxes to the hot line requesting an investigation into Bryce's safety in the wake of ongoing family violence by his parents.

``The court is deeply concerned about the welfare of the minor child,'' O'Connor wrote in the three faxes she titled ``court orders.''

O'Connor's appeals were ignored.

This is just sickening. Whoever issued the orders to ignore this and other reports is a sociopath. As a society, we've done so much in recent years to encourage (and for some professions, require) people to report cases of known and suspected abuse and neglect, and those reports just fall into a black hole? I can't comprehend how evil someone would have to be to let a child be forgotten like that.

2009-11-29 10:44:45 PM
But don't worry, I'm sure these people can handle health care.

This is what you get when you rely on the government.

The amount we can afford to pay for cannot meet the demand that we will exert on it when we become dependent on it.

Not to pick on the Judge, but she could have turned to the Baliff and asked him to have the Sheriff send five cruisers over with shotguns and door breakers to ascertain the safety of the children.

If you dont believe me you should see what they will do to seat a Grand Jury when one of the members has had a break down several miles from the courthouse and there are fifteen attorneys and twenty police officers twiddling their thumbs on the clock.

If they could actually wade through the bullshiat vindictive calls and take the real cases, this would be good.
Calling any government agency for help just generally brings more trouble.
Seriously, why don't some people exercise better judgement and deal with their own shiat.
Not trolling, just a social work background.

We are well on our way! Have you seen the docu-musical Baraka? A lot of Alpha Centauri's videos, including this one, come from it. They have it on netflix.

But really, isn't there some merit to the idea of smaller towns, but bigger communities?

So you're saying that the demand on DCS only exists because we have become dependent on DCS?

To put it another way, you're saying that these people wouldn't abuse, molest, and murder their children if only DCS didn't exist? Are you high?

Reminds me of the recent *ahem* service in Australia.

FREE BREAST SCREENING FOR ALL CHIX, YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

[6 months later and the government is all] Erm. Gee. Um. Didn't think about the money part. Let's just tell chix under a certain age not to worry even tho' we were telling them to worry only six months previously. We don't have enough money to fulfil our promise.

Politicians suck.

Oh yeah, and a great theory I read to bring back orphanages or children's homes [SORRY NO LINK].

OH NOES SOME CHILDREN GOT DICKED BY PRIESTS LET'S BAN ALL CHILDREN'S HOMES!!!

Instead of trying to fix the problem they made it even worse. Thousands [32,000 in Florida, according to the article] of kids spread out everywhere.

Absolute insanity. That is an improvement??? Baby. Bath water.

Yeah, everything was better for children before the government started getting involved. There were all sorts of community organizations with hotlines lining up to protect kids from deranged parents. In fact, back then educational opportunities were abundant and widely taken advantage of. Nobody was ever out of work and if they were, their church provided for their welfare. It's too bad the government got involved in that.

This comment cracked me up/explains so many things:
Wow. My dad insisted on holding my hand wherever I went with him till i was like 12. I always thought it was because he was over protective. Now I know why.

Let's see...if TPTB would prosecute the dumbasses who call in blatant false reports maybe the system wouldn't be so damn overwhelmed. My SIL's ex husband and his new fling repeatedly call DCFS over stupid petty bullshiat to try and trump up charges that my SIL is an unfit mother. Thankfully the new judge in their custody case sees through all this BS...

There wasn't the technology around for hotlines, clownshoes. Educational opportunities were vastly different, shiat for brains.

Bit of consistency here, eh? You can't compare pre 1980s child-help organisations with today's organisations using that criteria.

Well... you can... if you are a moron.

Floriduh's so called child protectors have been effed up for a long time now, like way back when Janet Reno destroyed those daycare people's lives because of made up stories and the whole "repressed" memories hoax.

Doesn't look like things have improved much.

Well Captain Sarcastic. How about we return to a time when there was still plenty of government, but things seemed to actually work most of the time, and the nanny state didn't intrude on everything we do, like maybe the early 1980's for instance?
